Our class's drop sheet came out this past Friday and today we were snooping around AF Portal and came across AMS. We found that when we put in 2LT and C-17 with "All" as the base selected, the bases that showed up exactly correlated to what was on our drop sheet except there was a number next to how many slots were available. The same held true for other planes we typed from our drop sheet.

Was this coincidental, or did we stumble upon a way to find out how many of each plane/base we dropped?

Call a buddy at Columbus who is in the same class number and ask them what their drop is.

That's really the easiest way to find out the exact airframes and bases in your drop.

We were given a sheet with every plane and base that we were dropped, just not how many of each. So for instance we know we were dropped at least one C-17 to Charleston but we don't know how many. When we looked on AMS, it said there are 5 2LT slots open for C-17 to Charleston. Does that mean our class was dropped 5 C-17s to Charleston to divvy up among all 3 UPT bases?

No. It means there are 5 openings which may or may not get filled in a given fiscal year (read: 15 UPT classes). Plus, Laughlin Vance and Shepard each get a vote, too. Not all of those billets may go filled this year.

So in a sense it's related to what could be dropped but not indicative of what's going to be free for your flight commander to horse trade in a given class.

Life lessons: AMS shows positions available, not necessarily what AFPC intends to fill.

Some jobs are 100% fill

Some are 85%

Some are "if we can."

Regardless of which AFSC you are, its important to understand what your functional's must-pay bills are. If you want some exchange opportunity, but ALOs or AMLOs are 100% fill when you're on the VML, you may want to think about which Army town you like.

3. Your flight commander receiver a spreadsheet with all the bases and their allotted portions. Those portions are final across UPT (i.e. if Vance gets 2 CHS and Columbus gets 1 there are three total which can not change, but can be traded among the bases). The "loop" in this process is usually pretty small until everything is finalized. Basically the only people who are "in" are the Flt/CC, Sq/CC and the guy at AFPC.

Unless something is different for the 11X series AFSCs, it's worth mentioning that the authorizations page in AMS only shows authorizations...i.e., what a given base has for a given AFSC and rank, by unit, based on their UMD. This includes billets that are currently filled. So without even getting into the "fill" discussion (which is valid), the authorizations page doesn't do you much good in figuring out what is actually going to be open at a given time for a given location. (I'm assuming you were looking at the authorizations page since the requirements page, which does actually lay out what billets are open for a particular VML cycle, only opens up for a couple of weeks a year.)

Really all the AMS authorizations page is good for is telling you what jobs are authorized (not necessarily open) for which AFSCs at which bases in which units...which, for a UPT drop, isn't really telling you anything you shouldn't already know.

You act like you found the holy grail for drop night. Here is a question worth answering (as a former UPT flt/cc) are you going to count up all bases c-17 drops and then tell your flt/cc there was one more floating around and why didn't you get it? If you would have spent more time studying EPQs rather than trolling around AF.mil sites you wouldn't have to worry about the drop!

First off you are mis-associating tool/douche bag and bad attitude with sense of entitlement or individuals who think they have everything figured out. One can quickly be changed over some beers at a bar and the other takes time and maturity. I was merely pointing out that hitting cntrl-F on a computer won't save you from the inevitable RPA and there is no need to worry about things you can't change at this point, that's all.
