I'm not super into debating politics around here anymore (haha), but to help fill in the gap of the other ~50% of the country tends to think compared to what you typically read on BO.net:

    1. Unemployment under Biden is down about 2.5% from when Trump left office, and is basically tied with the record low unemployment we saw under Trump in Jan 2020. More jobs is good!
    2. The strong allied response re: sanctions & war materials supporting Ukraine and opposing the Russian invasion.
    3. Going from 1.1% of the US population vaccinated against COVID to 67.4%. The vaccine development under Trump admin was a highlight for me and the distribution under Biden admin is similarly important. At this point everyone who wants one can get one and dying from COVID-19 is relatively optional for all but the most elderly and/or vulnerable.
    4. Almost forgot, but the bipartisan infrastructure bill was good and long-overdue. Biden actually got this done where several previous admins had talked about it and failed to get something across the line.

Obviously there are counter-points to what I wrote above, different interpretations of what happened, and other prevailing factors that influenced those "successes" I mentioned. Copy, cool. I can understand why if you're a conservative you will never like a Dem administration much, fair point. No need to @ me and stir the pot on any of these points.

I do think the GOP will win seats in Congress in 2022 and the WH in 2024, which is utterly predictable given Dem congressional control since 2018 and the Dem presidential win last time. It would be unusual to have 2x 1-term Presidents in a row but I guess we'll see. The advanced age of both Trump and Biden is a factor there I think & will be even more so an issue in 2024 if it's those two facing off again. I am a big proponent of an age ceiling (70?) so long as we accept an age floor of 25 for Congress and 35 for being President.

Personally I'm rooting for DeSantis on the GOP side in a theoretical 2024 primary. I think he's the only one who might be able to be Trumpy enough to win but not actually be named Donald Trump. There are lots of Republicans I as a Democrat like better, but none of them can win, so I'll settle for him over Trump. I imagine some of y'all should have felt the same way about Biden vice someone like Sanders or Warren based on policies more than personalities.

Policies aside, Trump's negative personal characteristics and opposition to a peaceful & lawful transfer of power after taking a valid electoral loss is disqualifying to me beyond any policy disagreements.

IMHO Republicans can get all the policies of Trump with a more normal, less dangerous leader in DeSantis. DeSantis/Crenshaw or DeSantis/Haley or some such arrangement, the GOP has plenty of bench strength beyond one or two families.

I'm curious to see if that matters at all or if what GOP primary voters really want is the Trump id or "vibes" as the kids say now and perhaps they don't care one lick about policies...after everything I'm more and more in that camp TBH.

1- Unemployment, these were jobs we got back from Covid losses so they aren’t specifically “new jobs”, crediting Biden with that is disingenuous.

2-Ukraine support- mostly NATO led, which isn’t a bad thing.  I’m sure Biden gets briefed when he’s awake.  There are still serious issues and way forward strategy in terms of our response that I won’t discuss here.

3- Biden had a mandatory vaccine policy for the GOV; if you are for the vaccine mandate for government workers  and are praising the rise in numbers, then sure I guess?… but not sure how much he affected the rest of the population?

4- Devil is in the details and execution.  Let’s reevaluate in a year.

100% agree with you with regards to DeSantis vis a vis Trump.  We get Trump’s policies without the drama, theoretically.  Trump’s behavior after the election was an embarrassment.  Had he walked away in grace he would still be held as an icon by half the population.

No clue what the administrative law here says re: what the Secretary of Transportation has power to help with vs encourage vs incentivize vs force. I also could never find an actual video or transcript of the full interview of what Buttigieg said even after some moderate googling, appreciate any link if y'all can find it.

I am a fan of strong, capable government administration to help/incentivize/force (in that order) industry to do what's in the best interest of US persons.

Maybe we're talking more like customer service reps to cut down on call wait times and curbing some frustrating consumer-facing scheduling practices i.e. stop selling tickets for flights you know are very likely to cancel due to staffing shortages? More like, "Hey airlines, just be upfront and say 'we're staff-limited and flying a more limited schedule' and detail to the FAA/DOT a plan to staff up to meet current demand, etc.

Hard to say exactly without more expertise and context.

I mean, if Sec. Mayor Pete wants to waive the 1,500 hour limit down to ~100 hours manned fixed wing PIC time and count CSO and RPA Pilot hours for the rest, I'm more than willing to get trained up by DAL/AA/UAL/SW/FedEx/UPS and fly the friendly skies haha! That'd be +1 in the pilot pool - crisis averted 😎

I figured it wasn’t just pilots, but more customer service reps.  My question is why have airlines not already done this? As it is it’s impossible to get many to work those jobs post Covid.

I am not sure there is a legal precedence to force a company to hire workers.  You can incentivize, but forced hiring seems to set a bad precedent we don’t want to live with.

Gotta be some kinda record for the system… seems like this board just got done like what mid-March? Three and a half months is wicked fast. Hope they keep that standard going. Waiting sucks.

I had same request denied a few years back. Unlikely with their focus on throughput right now.

People WANT to go to IFS now? Man how times have changed.  I had just finished my PPL and still had to go back when it was a washout program.  It ended up being a fun time with some cool bros but not sure it was worth the investment for the Air Force.  My understanding is now it’s more of a teaching program.  Hopefully they got rid of some of the civilian IPs with sticks up their bums.

This is exactly what I was talking about in my last post when it comes to the absolute vacuum of leadership ability in the current administration. The lefty advisors sitting around thinking of their next move can't even help themselves when it comes to their hatred of the oil industry. So they draft up a letter from Biden that simply attacks the oil industry vs trying to be part of a solution.

Like I had said before, the administration could stick to their public goal of trying to move away from fossil fuels while also actually working to help the American public today. There is absolutely no reason the President's letter couldn't have been an olive branch reaching out to the oil industry seeing how the federal government could work with and help the oil industry to increase supply and production. "To the American people, today I sent a letter to America's oil executives expressing my office's desire to sit down and come to real solutions on how to increase oil supply in this country. Make no mistake, my administration is still committed to furthering America's movement towards green energy, a process I feel the oil industry can be a part of as well; but this is a long process that will take time. American's are hurting now though, I feel that pain, and we are going to work together with America's oil and gas industry to make things better."

But instead we get more of the "oil is evil talk". This administration is just simply inept.

That kind of adult language wouldn’t appeal to zealots like AOC.

Biden’s “climate czar” John Kerry said we absolutely do not need more oil drilling.  This is the message of the left…

If the GOP was smart (they often aren’t), they would run ads of a few soundbites of Biden/his administration and Dem politicians saying how they’re against oil, more oil exploitation, etc and then show the price of gas.

Wise strategy in lieu of the Hunter Biden stories; while true and investigation worthy- doesn’t meet the appeal threshold of the public, specifically those on the fence.  GOP needs to start playing the dem campaign games.

Why stop there. Why not just contract Embry Riddle to instruct all UPT?  Or Draken and Top Aces to man our Fighter Squadrons. This has to be a joke, right?

My thoughts exactly, your civilian sim IPs are Vietnam vets who have cut their teeth in military aviation; not off the street civilian pilots who have no clue about military aviation.  I’m all for innovation but nothing yells giving up more than this.

Looks like Adam is working really hard to get that “token GOP” contributor job on MSNBC, CNN, etc.  As he gets closer to that job, he starts changing his stance on “rights”.

“Look, I have opposed a ban, you know, fairly recently. I think I’m open to a ban now. It’s going to depend on what it looks like because there’s a lot of nuances on what constitutes, you know, certain things,” Kinzinger told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union” when asked if he still opposed “a ban on the kind of assault weapons that were used in the shooting.”

    But he used to say…

    https://www.foxnews.com/media/second-amendment-red-flag-laws-mass-shootings

I support a ban on morons like him from serving in congress.

FIFY. You’re not going back far enough. Hell, I’m probably not going back far enough.

I know a lot of people don’t like Fingers but I think he did his very best to undo the damage Norty and Welsh did (mostly Norty).  Under Fingers there was a focus on the squadrons, elimination of BPZ and school selects, reduced rated manning on staffs etc. Cultural changes and frozen middle management take time to overcome unfortunately.  Not really sure about the current chief, seems more about talk and optics.

Anyone with half a brain should realize that the leftist establishment pulling Brandon’s puppet strings loves our gas situation.  1- Furthers their argument of acceleration of programs like the Green New Deal, 2- Improves their justification for large scale social programs just in time for the midterms.  What is the saying? “Never let a good crisis go to waste”.

    This.

@congressman - this needs to be one of your last missions before your district disappears.  Take the AF to the woodshed publicly and shame them.  I know Schlitz is tight right now but this is another shit hole short sighted idea that needs to be quashed.  Heavy / crew aviators should have a Phase 3 training program that is challenging and teaches them the all fundamentals and intangibles of being an aviator on crewed, multi engine, complex aircraft executing a range of missions.  Flying heavies executing the set of Air Mobility missions is not the same as 121 or 135 flying, not saying that that flying is not challenging or requires talented trained aviators, but Air Mobility is a challenging set that requires its own special training for its new cadre.

Initial ME training with a contractor, 50-75 hours in a King Air 260 or Cessna M2, then Tac Training in a backcountry STOL capable aircraft, 20ish hours.  #brokenrecord I know but if the PPT rangers get this thru it will be almost unrecoverable

Not a huge fan but the one thing I respected about John McCain is that he would publicly roast the Air Force for their incompetence.  The famous video of McCain giving it to Welsh over the A-10 retirement debacle is priceless; as a result we still have the A-10.

Kinzinger, take notes, find your sack and hold people accountable.

Hillary's campaign manager admitted under oath that she, personally, gave the go ahead for a false Trump-Russian bank story (Alfa Bank).

Her lawyer admitted that the campaign paid for the false information.

The former FBI chief of staff testified that the other lawyer on trial, Sussman, specifically represented that he wasn't representing a client, i.e., lied to the FBI.

Also, 100+ days since the vegetable in chief held a press conference.  Sure seems like some pressing topics to discuss - Ukraine war, inflation, gas prices, baby formula shortage, overwhelming illegal immigration, leaked Supreme Court draft ruling, etc.

I dunno, you'd think he'd have some thoughts...

It’s getting close to the midterms and his handlers are probably nervous..probably keeping a tight leash on him before he continues embarrassing himself in public.

Having now done all manner of sim- and aircraft-training, there's simply no comparing the two in the early phases of training. Hell, one of the biggest weaknesses in MAF was the lack of raw stick-and-rudder flying ability. That comes from the smaller planes that don't translate well in Sims.

We should also dispense with the "modernizing" argument. Today's sim technology has been around for decades, and the AF didn't decide to "modernize" until a manning and resource shortage. This is about cutting costs, and the results will be predictable.

Cutting costs, and also fixing the pilot manning crisis the Air Force created by pumping through more UPT students since they have all but given up on retaining on the other end.  We do this to ourselves. I’ll be standing by the data points on MAF 2.0/2.5 students from my FTU and line bros.

Who has the details on this guy: AF pilot turned airline guy who’s a sexual predator.

Went to the academy with him, he always seemed “off”, but hindsight is 2020. During IFS he was showing his classmates a sex video he made with some chick over the weekend, kind of weird.  Would’ve never imagined he was a predator.
