  1. It just depends on the unit. Some place heavy priority on visits others don’t care. Same with scores. I wouldn’t stress too much about it. Just go in and if you’re a good fit it’ll work out. Just don’t be an idiot.
  2. Any gouge on the 171st ARW? Trying to figure out how they want their packet contents separated as well.
  3. Yeah we are currently heading up to Iowa, I’ll have to try Sturgis maybe next year
  4. How many of you guys ride, what do you ride, and what spots do you prefer a weekend ride?
  5. I had it explained to me that if you are on orders than you should be in uniform. I would think you’d want to stand out as a potential candidate. Also why would you introduce yourself as Tech Sgt.? Just a thought
  6. Keep ALL documentation regarding anything medical. Good luck!
  7. I feel that I was picked up because of my forthrightness in bringing up a negative stuff and how I overcame and learned from it. I think sometimes we are so worried of saying something a certain way or coming off as arrogant that we don't do a good job of conveying how much we actually want and deserve the job. If you feel that you want and deserve the job I don't think it's out of line to say it. Just be ready to back up your reasoning. People want to work with people who are excited to be there.
  8. Everything is still enroute. Hopeful to hear something before Thanksgiving.
  9. Not yet man. Rumors from my squadron are that the earliest could be April but don't plan on going until at least August. That's just from my squadron with my situation.
  10. I was picked up in June 2019 then had to undergo a 6 month waiver process due to some issues from my past. Then Covid hit and I was lucky to squeeze into Wright Patt in July 2020. FC1 was stamped the first week of September and now I'm hearing that I may not make it to UPT until fall of 2021. Dig in deep guys and gals it'll be a wait. What are you all doing in the meantime to not go crazy?
  11. Sounds pretty solid if you can make the right connections
  12. Not a dumb question at all. Check in with your point of contact for the board which will usually be a pilot or recruiter. The UPT Bound podcast just did an episode on rushing.
  13. I guess I don't understand, do you want to be a pilot or are you content with the cso position? There is nothing wrong with turning it down if flying is what you want. I turned down a NAV slot and the guys from the board understood perfectly.
  14. I looked at the Navy before being picked up at a guard unit and was told that I was too old at 28. I can't remember the age reqs but check there and make sure your good. Life traveling the world is what you want to do, aim for an AF heavies unit. KC-135, C-17, or KC-10/46. We get to go to some incredible places. Good luck and hope this helps!
  15. Check out the reserves unsponsored boards and possibly trying to improve the AFOQT. It's not a bad score at all, but it wouldn't hurt due to how tight things are right now. Keep at it though!
  16. Also enjoyed eye of the viper. I just finished Tanker Pilot by Mark Hasara. Not a bad read at all.
  17. I was hired with a tanker unit and I had my ppl prior to applying. However, it was not required but heavily encouraged that you had at least soloed. My advice would be to start taking lessons and just steadily make progress. The worst thing that I see are people who interview and don't get hired, and then a year later when they return again they have made no progress towards their goals. I hope the main takeaway here is to just always be progressing.
  18. Hey guys, I'm looking for advice on how to prep for UPT. All I'm doing right now is working out and maintaining currency with my PPL. In your opinions would working on an instrument rating right now be worth the money? I'm excited to start this new phase in life and look forward to hearing your do's and don'ts. Cheers
  19. The only piece that I see not here is networking. I agree you sound like a solid dude on paper and you probably are in person, it's just that getting a guard or reserve job is one of the most competitive thing you can do, and having someone from inside the unit that can vouch for you is probably one of the biggest weapons in any applicants arsenal. Phage you thought about the unsponsored reserve boards? Good luck brother and keep trying!
  20. They put me on for June 1, here's to hoping that sticks!
