We had the zoomie cadets this past summer at Salem, and eventually they were allowed to go on support sorties (Bahrain, Deid, Dhafra, etc). Anyway, I always made them do the dirty work and let my loads just stand back and supervise. I had no qualms with having those kids get sweaty & dirty. You get on my plane, and you're going to work.

I just left Salem yesterday, and I would have to say that it was the best place I've been deployed to. The wifi is pretty quick (except during peak times), and free. You get your own bathroom in your room, so no one to harass you about pt gear when you take a piss in the middle of the night. The queep level is extremely low. Everything on the Rock (AF side) is fairly close by, and the BX isn't all that bad. The chow hall isn't the greatest, but you can make your way down to the LSA for their chow hall/Desert Diamond/McDonald's/KFC/etc. You can take the cultural awareness class if you want to go off base to Kuwait City. All in all, it was a pretty good place if it's going to be your last deployment before you retire.

How are they handling Ramadan at the CC/BPC? Here at OKAS we have to wear the swishy pants when we head down the hill to Ops. Just wondering if that crap has been implemented at OTBH. Thanks!

I'm a 53rd guy, so here's the scoop. The 53rd "owns" tails, but just a few of them have the black tail flash. As Dyess transitions to the J model, they are sending their H1s up to LRF to be utilized by the 53rd & 62nd. The 53d will eventually become an H1 squadron, the 50th will still be an H3 squadron, and the 61st will get the Js. That's the current plan, but I'm sure it will keep changing...

This week's current rumor is that the 61st is supposed to go J next. However, stand by for change...

BGen Dan Woodward retired last year. I was at DLF when he was the Wing King. Helluva CC and a welcome change from the a-hole he replaced.

Quite a few of us in the 53d are wondering why the AETC guys are getting the H1s. Care to explain the thought process on that one?

Larry's Barber Shop outside the front gate is good. 30+ years, still uses the straight razor on the back of the neck. Make a right out the front gate, about a 1/4 mile down on the right. Turn right on Swift Drive (there's a sign for Larry's), and it's about 200yds up on the right. Can't miss it.

I always wear mine, except when burning holes on a Top Cover. If it got bumpy, I would throw it on.

I used it at Balad in the T pods earlier this year. The trick was using it when there wasn't a lot of people surfing the net. When the connection was fast enough, there was probably a 1-2 second lag time. When the connection sucked, it was about 10 seconds. I will tell you, it was an awesome sound to hear the phone ring.

About another 3 months. Academics takes a few weeks, about 10 more sims, then off to the flightline to wait on broken aircraft and weather cancels.
