  1. Checks. To my knowledge the only military folks that use FAA certified class D sims are your C37, C32, C40 folks.

  3. I’m not sure we need to cross this bridge anymore, sadly. The ACRTF removed the ‘crisis’... retention initiatives have all but disappeared...as the COA is to now outgrow the problem... hence bitching is literally all we got left? Hard to discuss thoughts and actions to show they ‘care,’ when it’ll fall on deaf ears.
  4. I kind of liked the death spiral... When I got to the herk the crew/tail ratio was 2.XX. I'm sure you're shocked that isn't the case anymore... which magically fixes the problem every couple of years. We are running out of numbers to lower though... For the CAF brethren: Provide the manning to train them or stop bitching about the quality of IPs. It's your fault. Blame the enterprise or the culture for the separations.. but in the end it's the CAF's fault for having your people punch at higher rates than others. MAF's take rates are finally below the CAF's, so we aren't doing better... just took a few more years. To the MAF brethren: Suck less at training CAF folks. Brace for the suck because the quality getting to the MAF is bad too. Don't bitch at CAF when we get bad pilots... or a 3 page thread will ensue.

  6. C-130 and DV airlift guy here... While I loved DV airlift, the 5-star hotels, and worldwide travel... the feeling of accomplishment from tac airlift can’t be duplicated elsewhere. The AOR airdrops, humanitarian support missions to untowered/unknown fields, and AOR LZ urgent medevacs have been the most rewarding missions of my career. Slicks aren’t ‘tip of the spear’ first-in assets like the MCs, but since MCs aren’t abundant, slicks augment SOC a decent amount. 17s are too valuable, so minus your SOL II flagpole flyers, it takes an act of congress to get AMC approval for anything dangerous/tactical in the moose something to ponder

  15. If this is true, the AF actually turned a corner on retention. Pretty sure a lot of people would put up with a lot of BS for an extra 72K/yr with a pension at the end.
  16. What’s happens with the C-21/C-37/C-40 units shutting down, will there be requal ADSC leniency? This three year requal ADSC is really making a bad situation worse. If we 7-day opt the 3 year requal ADSC, will big AF really keep us at our base with no planes until the DOS? Asking for a friend..

  18. At one point the Gulfstream was in the running to replace the JSTARS... not sure how that panned out... but that sounds like the best 'forced crossover due to E-8 retirement' ever. Then again, maybe I'm thinking of the G550 replacing a different aircraft.

  20. Being the first US military aircraft to ever land at a certain uncontrolled airfield in Afghanistan, bringing in medical supplies and personnel after a natural disaster... while an AC-130 was overhead ready to take down anyone that flinched.

  23. Go ENJJPT. I know three slick 130J pilots, four U-28 pilots, 1 AC-130 pilot... all within three classes of mine (and that’s just what I remember). Most wanted them, some didn’t, either way... the guys that wanted heavies/AFSOC... generally got what they wanted. Granted this was almost a decade ago... damn I’m getting old.
