  1. Two of my MDG commanders at two separate bases did the black eye test thing in coordination with Family Advocacy awareness. This isn't new. Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk
  2. Sen Ayotte has ended the hold. http://www.dodbuzz.com/2013/10/17/senator-lifts-hold-of-air-force-nominee/ http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/10/17/senator-ends-hold-on-obama-pick-for-air
  3. Most recent policy update was Feb 13. There were a few changes. I won't publish it here; recommend you contact your nearest AF Optometry Clinic.
  4. I'm guessing it'd be the closest "major" city where I could see the VA, Social Security office, full service Post Office, etc. Just to do whatever mandatory paperwork and administrivia needed doing--certainly not sightseeing. Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk
  5. Can't I just go to Calgary? It's warm(ish), good economy, low crime, decent exchange rate, days' drive to Butte, and a good health system (so they say). Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk
  6. I saw that too, but her husband is retired now. He is also a MOAA NH-Chapter board member, though I don't know if that means much. The only other military related action I see in her past is this bill she sponsored to defund MEADS. Again, I don't know if it has any relation, but she doesn't appear to be terribly active in the Armed Forces policies other than in these two instances.
  7. James' nomination is still waiting for Sen Ayotte to release her block, pending further questioning regarding A-10 replacement by the F-35. Apparently she feels the AF is premature in adopting the F-35, particularly due to the Guards' high dependence on the A-10. http://breakingdefense.com/2013/10/08/sen-ayotte-to-air-force-get-me-a-10-answers-keeps-secaf-nominee-hold/ http://thehill.com/blogs/defcon-hill/air-force/327267-ayotte-keeps-hold-on-air-force-secretary-nominee http://www.military.com/daily-news/2013/09/26/senator-blocks-secafs-nomination-over-a10-cuts.html
  8. I would consider combining these threads, but the information at the beginning of the linked thread really is out of date and I don't think we need to propogate it. Read from about page 8 to most recent on page 10 but know you can find most of it elsewhere on the forum, or ask for it here, or PM me. Any future information should go in this thread. Below are the updated links. http://www.wpafb.af.mil/library/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=20352 http://www.wpafb.af.mil/library/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=20353 http://www.wpafb.af.mil/library/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=20358 http://www.wpafb.af.mil/library/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=20362 http://www.wpafb.af.mil/library/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=20373
  9. It might not be a Flight Standard, however it is an Active Duty standard to pass your fitness, unless of course you're a civilian.
  10. <div> Sorry. Looks like you need more evaluation/recovery time. You can re-test over the next month to check your prescription. 81L BLR, again, would know the specifics, but it sounds like your eye hasn't fully healed.</div>
  11. Transcript of the earlier hearing has been published. There are only two additional things I saw. It seemeds like Sen. Wicker did a very good job at focusing on the problems of his own state and ensuring Keesler provides all possible jobs it can to support his next re-election campaign. Some discussion on BRAC:
  12. I'm presuming you're applying for IFC I (Pilot) and have h/o childhood asthma <12. The reference you quoted is still accurate. Your Doc should coordinate all the specialty consultations. If you're processing as DODMERB/MEPS, bring a copy of the requirements. If it's an AF facility, they'll know everything you need. The best (and probably only) thing you can do (other than go to whatever appointments they arrange for you) is compile all known history of your condition. Request any civilian documentation, particularly any previous Pulmonology consults, especially if it states that your condition resolved with an estimated date of resolution. Obviously much of the original documentation will be difficult or impossible to attain. If you can't get something, document it as well as you can as an MFR and sign it. Use some phrasing like "to the best of my knowledge and memory" to CYA.
  13. Looks like Welsh and Cody have a similar mindset:
  14. A bit more discussion in the hearing video: http://www.armed-services.senate.gov/hearings/event.cfm?eventid=4a766b05653656c5550da245e9631295 More sexual assault discussion and commander "grading" - 1:39:30 - 1:41:40 Potential for removal of A-10 from inventory discussion due to budget - 1:44:10 - 1:47
  15. I can't remember if there was already a thread devoted to the new SecAF nominee, but I'll put this here anyway: D. James is undergoing Senate Armed Services Committee confirmation hearings today. Here are her prepared responses to the standard questions the committee sent earlier. It reads like a resume and political science exam blended together. It is generally fairly non-confrontational and she's deflected some of the sharper questions. Below are the highlights I saw. Also, she said: What the hell is this? I don't remember seeing this in on the AF Portal's "drink our blue kool-aid" links.
  16. The House Armed Services Committee meets tomorrow to hear/question General Dempsey, SECDEF Hagel, and Secretary of State Kerry regarding Syria.
  17. The President's draft will almost certainly be re-written and curtailed by Congress, as it is apparently viewed as too open-ended.
  18. Wright-Patterson is Brooks. Everything just moved there. Whatever you read is about 4 years old. It is difficult for anyone to advise you on dental concerns other than your dentist. If you can get them pulled in the next 3 days, you might recover in time, but if I were you, I'd wait and see what the Techs/Dentists say at WPAFB. If I remember correctly, the standard you need to meet is Dental Class 2 (read Attachment 2). I'll verify this Monday. Again, this is all conjecture. Ask you civilian dentist about possible recovery length and need for medication.
  19. You should re-submit the specifics of your diagnosis and any documentation you have to your recruiter, proving you meet standards within 6130.03. Your case seems good.
  20. You can go to MEPS, but not for a Pilot/Nav slot. You can read the waiver guide linked in my signature for "Eczematous Dermatitis". Read the specifics, as there are several similar conditions and unique waiver considerations for each, though I suspect you are SOL.
  21. This is not uncommon. Realize you won by qualifying for a pilot slot despite your originally poor vision, and wear contacts/glasses as necessary. I'll double check the regs tomorrow, but don't tell yourself this is a bad outcome.
  22. DOD Announces Same-Sex Spouse Benefits Full benefits implementation shortly.
