  1. This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but in the face of a widespread pandemic, how is training and flying mission essential?  Especially at an AETC base...everybody needs to take a knee for 14 days. I keep hearing “hack the mission, get after the mission”...gonna be kinda hard to do that when some ops group somewhere develops an outbreak of this stuff.

He’s pretty spot on for GSC, which is half CAF half MAF monster in which we’re currently picking the worst traits of both to build culture

I’d say it’s more a bastard child of ACC trying to live up to its grand pappy SAC but with a massive inferiority complex.

  3. Kinda symptomatic of how the Air Force develops officers and it shows what promotion boards value. Just about every O-6/CC bio you see is one or two ops tours, then school this, fellowship that, exec to blah blah blah...a periodic touch and go back to flying to punch the DO or Sq/CC card, then more school...on and on. Flying skill and tactical competency does not seem to be valued when grooming for O-6, hence, the 2200 hr Wg/CC.

Does anyone have knowledge which C-130H units might have their mission on the chopping block? Looking to Palace Chase next year.

Wouldn’t call it “chopping block” but my buddy got picked up by Great Falls as a nav and they said they’re highly likely to get Js soon and send him to UPT

    It's about that time again...

    1.  Over in the bonus thread, there have been rumors about making the promotion zone a 5-year window and eliminating BPZ instead of "one and done".  Love to see any official guidance on this.  It's not that I doubt y'all...but I've seen nothing from my base or AFGSC about these changes.

Gen Ray was in Minot a couple of weeks back and talked about this. Seems like the four stars are all on board with it.

Totally agree! Us 4 holers (74 Drivers) always make fun of those flying in a constant state of emergency with 2 (our fellow company 76 and triple 7 Drivers).

But the AF did resurrect another B-52 from the boneyard recently...

Two of them actually. One to replace the Guam crash and one to replace the one that burned up at KBAD in 15 or so.

I would have agreed 4 months ago regarding the BUFF, but having flown thru Europe (won’t mention where we stopped) looking down from our cockpit upon the backside of a cordoned off BUFF with a security team around it I question just how Bad Ass it is now... It was the WG bird too... Apparently had a double engine 🔥 🔥, yup 2.... and diverted there. We kept our vintage 747 going on to the next stop and next, but the oven was a bit sketchy I must say.

I will say that it was Bad Ass enough to shutdown 2 engines and flutter on in for MX.

Best BUFF quote I have ever heard: “Everyone grab a throttle, we’re going around!!!”

At least the F-15 is being produced yet again to bring the Hammer that the F-22/35 could not. >Payload, very impressive.

Just because you can fly on six does not mean you should

That’s good to hear, I was just surprised when their advice was to go for T-1s because if I went 38s as a Capt I’d end up in a bomber or E-3...

You could do far worse than to “end up” in a bomber...

No comment on the money. That's your business how you run your personal finances.

As to the ART, can't believe they're still peddling that crap over an AGR, especially in this hiring environment. 307th clownshow standard. I see not much has changed since I left that dumpster fire.

They’re finally getting smart and converting a bunch of ART jobs to AGR. Miraculously, they now have RNs and EWs taking those spots!

  10. Got to do a pretty cool thing in March. Flew the first flight of a four leg journey for a retiring military working dog through Pilots n Paws. His former handler adopted him, but the dog was in ND (two minutes from my office incidentally) and the family lives in Missouri. Had to wait two months for a break in the shitty winter weather, but it was very special to help an AF dog and his former AF handler reunite. If you want to find a mission or purpose for your recreational flying, Pilots n Paws is a great one to get into.
