  1. So what do y’all think the odds are that A) those 90K Russians on the Ukrainian border are there to invade and if they do, that B) we’ll do anything about it?  I’m not sure we will. Putin has picked his timing perfectly to coincide with the fallout of our Afghan withdrawal IMHO.

Not anything about doctrine or tactics but I haven't seen these questions asked.

    1. Can the Federal govt  party politics  unite an American populace who are fed up with the lies of why we fought in Afghanistan and Iraq and now Syria?

    2. Can we stomach high losses of American blood, I.E. a couple aircraft carriers, cruisers, frigates and destroyers with all hands. Destruction of Kadena, Andersen , and Elmendorf?

    3. Will China if they find things going south use nuclear weapons, will we? China only cares if the CCP survives.

    4. Will we able to stomach total war, using extreme violence to drown millions of Chinese troops in the sea.

    5. Can we coral Corporate CEO's who will sell their daughters into sexual slaves just to have a good qtr and do business with China? Plus can retailers and manufacturers handle not getting their cheap shit from China? Would world trade disappear. and could  China feed itself without American, Canadian exports? Could Americans put up with rationing?

    6. And the 800# gorilla in the room, are the present POTUS and VPOTUS  up for the job of being War leaders?

I think the answer to most of your questions is a resounding no. I don’t think the timing of the Chinese really ramping up their actions is a coincidence, juxtaposed with our very botched last days in Afghanistan. Similarly, they can read CNN and Fox News and see our current president is not really leading with any consensus. The American public IMO has exactly zero tolerance for any conflict right, especially a force on force conflict the size and scale of which we have not experienced since, I would argue, WWII.  If I were a Chinese general, I’d be screaming at the top of my lungs that if force is the chosen COA to reunify Taiwan, there is no better time than now.

I’d seriously hope with an existing time that it wouldn’t take multiple years to field.

And is TOLD in a BUFF that major of an event? Not like you’re doing austere ops out of dirt strips where you’re gnats assing it.

There is one mission set where yes, TOLD in the Buff is vitally important. Read into that what you will.

Will the new engines give the BUFF a substantial increase in thrust/payload capability or is it more reliable/ease of MX/sustained supply chain?  Understood if you can't get into specifics on this forum.  I'm currently going through MC-J transition and the upgrade to newer engine technology feels like going from a rotary to cell phone.

What I’ve read says same thrust class, better fuel efficiency and less maintenance intensive. I think they wanted to keep it to the same thrust to not have to completely redo the TOLD, as well as not having to do too much work to strengthen the engine pylons.

  5. As someone who was similarly disqualified from an AF FC1 but who has held an FAA Class 1 since 2016, no, nobody in the AF cares. It makes no sense, it is frustrating as hell, but IMO the AF is looking for every reason to tell you no, whereas the FAA seems to only care if you meet the standard or not. My buddy was also permanently DQ’d by Wright Patt for a condition that they contradicted themselves on in the paperwork (no joke, they said it is not a rapid onset condition but we’re worried about sudden loss of eyesight), while a civilian ophthalmologist said he would absolutely not suffer a sudden loss of sight and should be qualified. Welcome to dealing with AF medical…

I’m honestly a bit jaded, if that’s not obvious, but it’s the Air Force’s loss. They created this mess and keep turning away otherwise highly qualified people who would gladly give them another decade of service on the cockpit. I’m going to take my talents (and my FAA Class 1) and fly for somebody else. If I were in your shoes, I’d look at doing the same. The regionals are throwing six figure bonuses at people…the regionals!  It’s a pilot’s market out there right now. Go find your opportunity!

Notice how this thread which has had approximately 354 views so far, but only approximately 10 users interacting with it, means I already met my mission objective of sharing my links with hundreds of lurkers? No wonder you're clueless as to how the U.S. government failed Afghanistan, you think one dimensionally.

You know why you’re not even worth arguing with?  It’s because you cannot argue logically without resorting to an ad hominem toddler fit. Somehow you made one hell of a leap from vaccines to geopolitics when I didn’t even mention Afghanistan or the US government.

    Ok, boldface applies…

Just saw on MyPers that LAF O-5 board is scheduled for 1Mar22. Anyone have an idea of when they make the determination if the board will offer continuation or not?

I think it’s just certain categories but I could be wrong.

When this shit show ends, and we start talking about Awards and Citations, the arm chair reviewers better just shut the F up and forward the DFCs for the people over there right now to do this last heavy lifting.

You’re taking a vulnerable cargo aircraft into a chaotic situation at best, parking it in front of ever Afghan who wants to escape and loading pax/refueling while the security perimeter hopefully lasts.

This is some Berlin airlift worth shit for our Cargo and heavy Helo brethren and it damn sure needs to be recognized as one of the bright spots in this total F up.

  9. So I just did a PPM and I loaded my own stuff into a Penske truck.  Like a dumby, I did not get weight tickets.  Somehow blew past that part in that "do it yourself" counseling stuff, also thinking what the hell does it matter since they charge you a flat rate for the truck.  Shack on me for not following the checklist...

Now, the bitchy civilian in my TMO office is being about as helpful as a pile of dog turds.  I cannot be the first person to have forgotten these....what's the workaround?  I have done the constructed cost thing, but she's making it sound like there's zero way to get paid, and since I got the advance, I might be paying some of it back.  How do I get out of this mess?

This is why you don’t let non-pilots run flying organizations

Two of the absolute worst commanders I’ve had were pilots. Two of the very best were navs. The radiator shield does not automatically qualify one to be a good commander.
