  1. I've been following https://www.tspallocation.com/ for a few months. I like his analysis. He's been S fund for the entire time I've been following him. He follows the business cycle investing theory, like Fidelity talks about here.
  2. Not exactly. It's called the "Supervised Operating Experience" restriction. If you don't meet these you get it: So a single engine fighter guy won't have a type in a Multi-Engine Land airplane and won't have been an AC in a military MEL. He can qualify under C if he did 500 hours in MC-12s or some other multi-engine land airplane. You can get the restriction removed after 15 or 25 hours of acting as PIC under the supervision of a qualified PIC. So basically it doesn't matter because you'll get it removed when you upgrade to Captain. It's all here if you want to read it: https://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgFAR.nsf/0/F7DF5EE953BA576186256EE0006FD4D6?OpenDocument

I searched for "Bergdahl" and chose "Forums" and it showed 5 threads. Search Function Inop? ?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent> Choosing Google instead of Forums did limit it to one thread.
  4. You think the machine learns lessons and you think one lowly pilot going tactical DNIF will teach that lesson? You're mistaken. They're going to delete me from the spreadsheet, put your name in, and not blink an eye. If there was nobody left to put in cell B24 and it stayed red, they'd think, "Hm, now what?" But that's not going to happen. If it starts to happen, they'll change the rules. ("We don't have enough MC-12 sensors. Extend everyone indefinitely." It happened.) No learning takes place. No shitstorm realization. In the end, the only one that feels ANY pain is you.
  5. Holy shit he nailed it. Cut and paste most of that post in the "Why I'm getting out" thread and sign my name to it. Fuck no. I will leave with my dignity intact. I'll do everything in my power to get out (VSP, Palace Chase, Palace Front, 7 day opt, whatever other program they dream up...) but I'm not going to lie and pass my bad deal to you. I'm not going to look my son in the eye and tell him I got what I wanted because I lied.
  6. We have a couple guys currently deployed that were approved for VSP. So not the exact same, but close. They already moved their DOS to 4 months after they return. I think the window is you have to separate between 30 and 120 days after your return from your deployment.
  7. You could open a 529 plan for your kid's college to tax shelter part of your VSP. https://personal.vanguard.com/us/funds/529portfolios

Maybe not so weird. Generally the same way Miculek runs his - must be something to it. Cheek weld and all that.

  11. Nope. Never used em. I'd probably look for Tyvek that works with a laser printer. They're out there and I'm sure you can find some first hand experiences.
  12. Print on Tyvek if you have the $$$. https://www.materialconcepts.com/products/tyvek/sheets/
  13. I would have needed 8 months of UPT and 15 months for PCS waived. Mine didn't reach AFPC until last week, after sitting at the WG/CC for weeks. I knew I was a long shot from the beginning with an overage of only 18 (?).
  14. Officially denied VSP today. I thought I'd have to wait until 1 May to get the inevitable email. 2003 11M with ADSC left

  17. My wife used part of mine to finish her BS and she's a stay at home mom. If I don't go back to school when I get out, I'll give the rest to my son if he needs it. I agree it didn't make financial sense in the short term, but now she has it if she ever has to work. The real reason, however, was that she wanted it and she's proud to be the only college graduate in her family. We often do irrational things to keep our marriages going.
  18. KRFT is up .72% today. Coincidence? I think not. ETA: And they're dropping the energy bars! I lived off those BAF-issued breakfast bars for weeks. What were they? Kellogg's?
  19. Crazy Carl does a Pensacola ATP class occasionally, if you can get ahold of him. He uses a DPE out of Fairhope or somewhere nearby there.
  20. I'm not a finance pro, don't take anything I say as gospel... I don't see why it would matter. I'm a big fan of Vanguard, and they have a headline about this that says: "Converting assets from a traditional Vanguard IRA to an existing Vanguard Roth IRA" https://personal.vanguard.com/us/insights/taxcenter/tips-rothira-conversion So reading between the lines, an existing Roth isn't a problem at all for the backdoor, which is really just a special kind of IRA conversion. There are tax considerations if you have other traditional IRAs you're not converting, but I don't know enough about your situation to even guess how that'll play out. Give Vanguard or whoever you use a call - it's a relatively popular strategy. It's usually used by high earners, but the theory is the same for your married filing separately case.
  21. So it could get lost among 27 pages of unrelated posts? You must work in TMO.
