  1. Are you a 65FX? If so, there are 525 of you in the air force, and you were deployed for an average of 65 days per year CAO FY2010. Not even close to the top of the list. And while it seems like you're a female, don't try the dick measuring thing around here, it rarely works out well.
  2. Unless it's changed that's true for MC-130H Talon IIs but not for MC-130P Shadow. Should be a moot point once we have all MC-130J Commando IIs.
  3. FG, You're right for that situation, but I think most people around here are A) deploying frequently enough that they're in as low of a tax bracket at they're gonna get and B) are not planning as if there will be no gains from market investments. Even if B was true you could invest in the G fund exclusively, which is another big advantage of TSP in general.
  4. Interfund transfers. Question for the masses just to QC my thoughts...does it make sense that a person should strive to contribute all of the 17K they can put into roth TSP annually while in a CTZE area? My thought was to save up money in something fairly liquid (money market fund, savings account, etc.) while home and then make the entire 17K contribution while deployed to get both the initial contributions and earnings tax free. You're losing out on whatever interest that money could be earning in the funds while you're home (certainly would be a higher rate than a savings account right now) but the long-term tax benefits would be worth it vs contributing some of that 17K while home and the contributions being taxed up front. Make sense or off base?
  5. Fair enough...I figured the correct term, "emoticon" sounded even gayer...
  6. Mypay says, The way I read that it seems like if you want to put money from your ACP bonus into Roth TSP you have to do so at the finance office. Monthly incentive pay (i.e. flight pay) should be no problem since it's all from your paycheck and you just enter the dollar amount you want. Anyone have any insight why traditional TSP continues to use a % of pay where Roth uses a dollar amount? Seems unnecessarily complicated, why not just use one measure for both?
  7. Definitely in jest...beer smiley thing after the original post generally means it's all in good fun. I think it's funny as hell...plus I highly enjoy that now that I'm in the other U-28 squadron I can give dudes in the 319th sh*t for it. The 319th UDM (and an extremely old-head gunship guy) has a demotivational poster hanging in his office that says, "We're basically like the 319th of the Ground" and has a pic of navy SEALs on it...makes me chuckle every time I'm over there.
  8. I prefer to think of the SEALs as "The 319th of the Ground" rather than the other way around
  9. AWACS not the same as JSTARS...what's with the title?
  10. Well yea, you'll hear it here eventually, but if he wants to know now the answers are probably not gonna be found here. Not sure if they're taking any new folks for slick PC-12s (i.e. part of NSAV out at Cannon) anymore. What's leading you to ask, you headed there, want to head there, etc.?
  11. The one I have has all my personal apps on it as well as the squadron-provided apps (phaero, good reader, etc.) that have out pubs, checklists, etc. Nothing locked down at all, no special software. They were locked down initially but that was lifted quickly.
  12. All of those things can be overcome man, keep pressing. Once you get a good system in place it's infinitely easier to update your personal pubs and the ipad has about 69 extra features that aren't included in a bag full of paper. And tell your comm folks they're full of sh*t, itunes can absolutely go on a stand-alone pub server from which all the squadron ipads get synced.
  13. We had a guy get his stolen out of his truck recently, not sure if he has to pay for a new one but he did have to give a brief on Training Day about the importance on not leaving things in your vehicle. SQ/CC definitely gave him some sh*t during the brief too, pretty funny.
  14. This. I don't actually have the card but am thinking about it considering how much we spend on groceries. $75 annual fee but I'd make back way more than that getting 6% on groceries, let alone 3% on gas + 1% on everything else.
  15. I'm not super-familiar with the details but it's my understanding that it's radically cheaper to move to e-FLIP no matter what e-Reader or tablet you choose. That's what sold it to AFSOC leadership, let alone the increased usability or the weight savings on the airplanes. A buddy in my squadron is intimately familiar with the numbers and did a lot of the analysis personally, PM me if you really want to get the full-up report and I'm sure I can get him to send it to ya on .mil.
  16. VPN for ipad = access U.S.-only media sites from overseas
  17. Your peace of mind costs you at least $75 per $7,500 you spend, even with a very conservative cash-back card that gives 1% across the board. That might be worth it to you but it is a real cost. There's only risk if you suddenly go against you're pre-determined spending and budgeting ROEs, which is possible but unlikely if you are principled and even that risk exists paying cash-only because you could suddenly change your mind about that and run up credit card debt almost as easily. Anyways, agreed it's not really a debate, just technique only. I do enjoy spending 5% less at Target instantly and getting 6% cash-back at the grocery store and 3% cash-back at the pump, who wouldn't?
  18. We have otter containers issued with out ipads but most people took them off because they more than double the bulk. I have an apple smart cover on mine and it covers the screen and that's it. We've yet to have anyone hurt or break their ipads, and like I said, it's cheaper for the command to by every flyer a new ipad every single year than it is to continue getting paper FLIP.
  19. ::facepalm:: on this entire part of the conversation, I regret and disavow my own involvement and encourage everyone else to STFU. edit to add: scoobs, you forgot the Spec Ops Fighter Pilots...highly selective, extremely secretive.
  20. I know what you were talking about, my statement that SF was not involved. No need for a pissing contest, you know what you know and I know what I know and that's all that needs to be said about it. Whether I'm right about it or not, it's imaterial and I shouldn't have said anything about who or what was involved at all, it's unnecessary. The reason I even touched on the topic of SF in the first place was to point out to the OP that SF does not equal to SOF.
  21. Yep, sure does. Generally what people say is a reflection of what they know. Pissing contest aside, the original point was that using SF and SOF interchangeably is incorrect and if you're in the military you should strive to know your own trade well enough to get it right.
  22. As you rightly pointed out, the Army played a role in the raid as well but I highly, highly doubt SF was involved. Those dudes are bad ass as well but what they do best isn't quite the best fit for what took place.
