  1. You'd be surprised at the potential opportunities that exist out there, if you know the right people. Stranger things have happened. Obviously I wouldn't expect to be treated any different than the next newbie; I agree that you make your money in the jet. No different in my community.
  2. Makes sense, I assume (again, *if*) it were to happen, yes I would start out as a copilot obviously. Thanks for the insight. And yes, I flew -38s in UPT.
  3. Completely hypothetical here, but *if* I were able to cross flow over to the Bone for my second assignment (from an AMC asset) as an AC, what could I reasonably expect that transition to look like? Would I be treated like a FAIP essentially who comes into the community or would "real AF experience" (sorry FAIPs) carry any weight in upgrade timelines in comparison? Could I expect my third assignment to be a flying assignment in the Bone as well or would it more likely be a desk tour? How many hours a year are guys getting to fly these days? Future of the jet? (I've also heard rumors of a reserve sqdn at DYS potentially?) Sorry for all the questions, just trying to make an informed decision...thanks!
  4. My SQ/CC told us to take "a strategic pause" from the correspondence buffoonery and that everyone in our squadron will go in res regardless. Needless to say, I'm pretty happy about that. Sorry to the other dudes that have to put up with the BS still...
  5. Yes. A guy in my squadron just came back from a UPT IP assignment and did it here in-house. Not standard, but it does happen.
  6. Hate to be a debbie downer, but it isn't any different on this side of the fence. It's still the military. FIFY. I know we don't have Warrants in the AF, but as an O in the AF; you also won't fly as much as you'd like, and your flying hours will significantly drop as you promote in rank. I'm seeing the writing on the wall and I'm just in my first assignment still, and I'm having a difficult time swallowing that pill. Not trying to discourage you (you seem to have a great attitude, and I hope it goes well for you if this is something you really want) but just thought you ought to know the culture of the AF nowadays. Flying is NOT important to our leadership. Read around the forum a little and you'll see how much of a mess this place really is.
  7. Shack. Can't speak to tankers but at least on the -17 side they have a very large pool that it can reach deep into to pluck IPs from at will. Especially for airdroppers - that qual is *almost* a guaranteed one-way ticket to LTS at some point in your career, unfortunately.
  8. Anyone care to shed some light on what life is like currently in the C-21? Would a second assignment guy expect to get a good amount of flying in?
  9. Straight from the horse's mouth at his all-call today at TCM - hiding Masters degrees from promotion boards until O-6, and, quote "wing commanders should NOT be telling you that you need it for promotion to Major"
  10. 2! Drove through on my way home from a TDY and planned to stay at mountain home to save a little money on hotels. Arrived on base then departed about 2 min later and drove the extra 45 min to Boise to stay at the Hampton. Best additional $50 I spent on that trip.
  11. They shouldn't have written the reg allowing base leadership levels to restrict the wear of this stuff further in the first place....it's like dad saying "yes" but "only if your older brother lets you"
  12. Dude, you sound like a Chinese spy or something
  13. http://www.aviatorgear.com/c-2-squadron-t-shirts.aspx Can't go wrong with these guys. They do great work. Lots of examples on their website too.
  14. I like how directly under paragraph 26.2, the first selection record it lists to be added to put you back in the gray zone is "attending a school in PCS status"...as if to say it is more important than the ones listed underneath it, such as MOH recipient, POW, etc... Shows what's really "important" in a career...
  15. Good to hear. After reading the book and then hearing about the movie coming out, I was really excited, but at the same time I was afraid they were going to make it more of a typical hollywood "shoot 'em up" action movie. Glad to hear that it's not. Recommend you read the book when you get a chance - you won't be disappointed. Can't wait to see it myself!
  16. Yep. The key is "local" honey. Was traveling through the central valley in CA to visit family a few summers ago when everything was blooming...had the worst allergies ever. My wife's grandmother suggested the local honey thing...helped immensely!
  17. Could be, but I'm another previous "9-5er" myself (3 years out of college before OTS), and I too can vouch that it sucks, big time. My worst day here is still better than doing TPS reports day after day, month after month. Even with the level of queep in an AMC squadron.
  18. Amen. Hacking the mish' only...no more queep!!! Edit to add: We received an email yesterday saying to expect to hear around the 31st as to which AFSCs will be meeting the FSB this summer, for those of us 3-6 year officers that fall into that category. I'd be willing to bet none of the pilot types will be safe (except maybe 11F's), but that's just me...
  19. Or just tell them to suck it and wear your own anyways. It's YOUR eyesight... ^ This also works!
  20. Really? I thought they were only going to Rucker dudes
  21. 2. Was driving home the other day and saw two Cessnas flying some sort of bastardized extended trail (~500ft apart) through TCM's airspace. While interesting, it was evident they didn't know what they were doing.
  22. I'd be VERY surprised if that ever happens.
  23. [image]http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-images-cow-mooing-image22379519[/image] As for combat AD in OEF right now, crews are hardly doing it at all, and will be doing absolutely none in the near future as the smaller FOBs and COPs are shutting down. Herks are doing the vast majority at this point. Edit: dang my image posting skills on iPhone
  24. So would I, but you definitely won't be in either of these airframes. The only 'possible' exception might be SOLL II...
