  1. https://taskandpurpose.com/news/air-force-general-fired/ Air Force Brig. Gen. Erik Quigley has been fired from his job at Air Force Materiel Command after an internal investigation “revealed inappropriate personal relationships,” according to an Air Force news release.
  2. This guy is a former B-1 pilot. He was in my squadron in the 2007-2010 timeframe.
  3. That idea came from this paper. https://themilitarywallet.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/The_COLA_Trap-PSP-Fowler.pdf
  4. Huge props to Jon and Trident on my VA refinance! Got 3.375 on a jumbo VA with a $1500 lender credit. We bought the house in December of 2018 and I got 4.625, when the market was near its peak. Jon reached out to me a few months before I was eligible to refinance to let me know I was on his radar and we worked a game plan to pull the trigger as soon as I met the VA time requirements. The whole process was simple and cost me nothing but a couple emails and an hour at the title company. I also got to skip a payment and I should also get a refund of my escrow. Our monthly payment went down from $3260 to $2890, obviously a huge win! I have used the guys at NBOKC for two previous loans and refinances and they have done a great job in the past. However, for this house, I have used Jon for the initial loan and the refinance and NBOKC couldn't touch their rates. When I reached out to NBOKC for the refinance initially, they offered 3.75 with zero points, or at 3.5 they wanted me to pay half a point. When I told them that Jon was offering 3.375 with a credit they simply said "nice!" Overall I have had two positive experiences with Jon, and I will continue to use him in the future. I'm also a licensed real estate agent in Virginia, Maryland, and DC, and based on the results/rates Jon has delivered, I will continue sending any client I have to Jon.
  5. PM me your .mil email address and I will send it to you.
  6. I got a separate LES for the additional flight pay increase for a two week period a few days ago. The weird thing is that it was for Oct 16-31. Still haven't been paid for the beginning of the month and the old rate was still in my Dec check. I am on AD school orders.
  7. No pay bump here either. My finance office (which is great) filed a ticket with DFAS which was in the system for about 3 weeks before DFAS closed the ticket and said "it is a known problem and we will fix the issue in one big batch." My finance office apparently does not have the authority to fix it. Unbelievable.
  8. I'm also an ANG guy with no increase. Sent an email to my unit finance and they put in a ticket with DFAS.
  9. I emailed our POC at ANG and she said it would be released tomorrow.
  10. https://www.airforcetimes.com/articles/trump-secaf-heather-wilson-nominated President Trump intends to nominate Heather Wilson, a former New Mexico representative and a graduate of the Air Force Academy, to be the next Air Force secretary. Wilson is now president of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota, a position she has held since 2013. "Heather Wilson is going to make an outstanding secretary of the Air Force," Trump said in a statement Monday announcing his planned nomination. "Her distinguished military service, high level of knowledge, and success in so many different fields gives me great confidence that she will lead our nation's Air Force with the greatest competence and integrity." In the statement, Wilson, a Keene, New Hampshire, native, pledged to help make a stronger Air Force. "America and our vital national interests continue to be threatened," Wilson said. "I will do my best, working with our men and women in the military, to strengthen American air and space power to keep the country safe." If confirmed, Wilson would be the first Air Force Academy graduate to ever serve as secretary. She graduated in 1982, as part of the third class to admit women in academy history. She also was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University in England, where she studied international relations and earned masters and doctoral degrees. She would replace former Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James, who left office on Friday with the Obama administration. The Trump administration statement said Wilson, who comes from a family of aviators, served as an officer in Europe, and is an instrument rated private pilot. According to her House biography, Wilson left the Air Force in 1989 to join the National Security Council as its director for European defense policy and arms control. She represented New Mexico in the House of Representatives from 1998 to 2009, and chaired the House Subcommittee on Technical and Tactical Intelligence. She also served on the House Armed Services Committee and was a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. She tried to run for former New Mexico Sen. Pete Domenici's seat in 2008, but lost the Republican primary and retired from the House when the 110th Congress concluded. Wilson has three grown children with her husband, Jay Hone, who is a retired Air Force colonel. Trump has not yet announced his pick for Navy secretary. His choice to head the Army, Vincent Viola, has not yet been confirmed.
  11. https://www.acc.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123445666&source=GovD 4/20/2015 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- The Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Air Force have directed the realignment of the Air Force's B-1 bomber fleets and Long Range Strike-Bomber program from Air Combat Command to Air Force Global Strike Command, effective Oct. 1. The move will realign the Air Force's core mission of global strike and all of the service's bombers under a unified command responsible for organizing, training and equipping Airmen to perform this mission. "This realignment places all three Air Forces bombers under one command and brings the LRS-B program with it," said Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James. "Consolidating all of our Air Force assets in this critical mission area under a single command will help provide a unified voice to maintain the high standards necessary in stewardship of our nation's bomber forces." Sixty-three aircraft and approximately 7,000 people will transfer from ACC to AFGSC under the realignment. Since moving from Strategic Air Command in 1992, the B-1 has played an essential role in combating the nation's enemies, either projecting combat power from bases in the United States or from forward operating locations around the globe. Airmen who drive B-1 operations have demonstrated the platform's long range strike capability, delivering its conventional weapons on target from home station, making it a perfect fit for joining the B-2 and B-52 under AFGSC, James said. "With a single command responsible for the Air Force's entire long range strike fleet, the Airmen in AFGSC will benefit from better coordination and increased sharing of expertise across the five bomber wings," said Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Welsh III. "Consolidating all conventional and nuclear capable bombers within the same command allows the Air Force to streamline the global strike and strategic deterrence missions, and create a lasting positive impact for the Air Force's global strike capabilities." Both the 7th Bomb Wing at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, and the 28th BW at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota will continue to serve as the host wings and provide installation support and services to other units on the bases. "We expect the transfer to be imperceptible to the majority of Airmen at Dyess and Ellsworth as they will continue to work for the same supervisors and units," said Lt. Gen. Stephen Wilson, Commander, Air Force Global Strike Command who was recently nominated to serve as the vice commander of U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt AFB, Neb. "The impacts of the realignment will become noticeable over time as crosstalk among maintainers and aviators increases across all three platforms, creating opportunities in training, tactics development, doctrine development, aircraft modernization and acquisition," Wilson said. The consolidation of the global strike mission under AFGSC follows the Air Force's plan to elevate the commander of AFGSC from a three-star to a four-star general officer position, which Gen. Robin Rand, currently the commander Air Education and Training Command, will assume.
  12. Didn't happen with 04 year group. There are still guys pinning on.
  13. The G Fund cannot lose money so you could move it there if you wanted and you would get the same effect as cash. "The G Fund assets are managed internally by the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board. The G Fund buys a nonmarketable U.S. Treasury security that is guaranteed by the U.S. Government. This means that the G Fund will not lose money." https://www.tsp.gov/investmentfunds/fundsoverview/fundManagement.shtml
  14. In addition to maxing out my traditional TSP, I am also planning on opening a traditional IRA for my wife and putting $5000 in there.
  15. Hawker, PM sent. The answer is it depends. We look at all the reasons you have listed on your "Welcome to the FTU" form and decide from there who goes where. For example, if there is only 1 Dyess pilot spot for your class and another dude in your class says his ex-wife and kids live in Abilene and he wants to stay here, he will get to stay and you will have to go to Ellsworth. It is a very fair process and whoever has the best reasons gets to go where they want. If there is no good reason and two guys want the same thing, it would likely be based on date of rank.
  16. https://www.afpc.af.m...-130509-049.pdf page 92 AFI 36-2903 18 JULY 2011 6.4.1. Footwear (Males). Footwear is required when wearing all uniforms. Athletic shoes will only be worn with the physical training uniform (see para 7.1.5.) unless medically necessary, as determined by appropriate medical authorities and approved by the commander. 6.4.1.1. Socks (black). Socks will be plain without design, clean, and serviceable. Black socks will be worn with low quarters, dress boots and black jungle/combat boots. Plain white socks may be worn under the black socks as long as the white socks are not visible. 6.4.1.2. Socks (sage green). Sage green socks will be worn with the sage green or tan boots. Plain white socks may be worn under the sage green socks as long as the white socks are not visible.
  17. I don't think you can ever tell your boss "you're done" following some stupid AFI. I think it is silly that leadership at my base is very concerned with us wearing green socks under our flight suits because an AFI says so. Nobody has ever seen my socks and if I wear black socks not one person will know and the mission will not be harmed at all. However, this "issue" has been brought up multiple times and there is talk of implementing "sock checks." I think this is a perfect example of a dumb AFI that adds nothing to the mission. I wonder what would happen if I told my boss "Sir, this AFI is stupid and contributes nothing to the mission so therefore I'm not going to follow it." I would immediately get a LOC.
  18. I've been at both bases and flying-wise it will be the same at both bases.
  19. You are saying exactly what I've told them for the past few years. I've fought everybody along the way and had no luck, they won't budge. When you sign the agreement online, there is a check box that says "Revoking the benefit does not AUTOMATICALLY remove the ADSC". To me this implies that it can be removed but its not automatic, which I guess is not true. There is no higher authority you can take this to than the AFBCMR, which I did and lost. Another guy in my squadron did the same thing and lost. The paperwork said that we had not been "wronged by the AF". My commitment for the transfer is almost up now and I plan on getting out, but I'm still tempted to write a letter to Congress so other dudes don't get screwed by this. Also, I will have used 24 months of it to get my MBA and still have 12 left that I would love to give to my kid, but there is no way I'm taking the chance to "unrevoke" it as they would probably try to start the commitment over again.
  20. Forgot to add that he left in the middle of the lease with no prior notice. It took me about a month to find another renter and cost me about $1400, which was partly factored into the repayment since I only took a $500 deposit from him. And that he paid me late 5 out of the 7 months he lived there and never paid the roughly $300 in late fees. I don't really think it was a dick move. It was dick of him to not take responsibility for ruining the carpet in a very nice house. We don't work at IBM and the AF expects us to be accountable for our actions outside of work also. If I wouldn't have threatened that I would likely be out the full amount. Lesson learned: next time I will run a credit check and take a full month's rent for deposit. I also wrongly assumed that I had to rent it to the first person that was interested in the house. Also, that was the cheapest carpet that Lowe's had, other than the industrial crap.
  21. The guys above are correct. I ops tested it and revoked the transfer. The AF would not remove the committment no matter what. I even filed a complaint with the highest board in the AF, the Air Force Board of Corrections for Military Records on the basis that the ADSC is unfair because the AF hasn't spent any money yet and no benefits have been used. I waited one year for their response and I still ended up losing the case. The only way out of the committment is to Palace Chase.
  22. There is a guy in my squadron that was twice passed over and separating in a few weeks. Great dude, multiple deployments, instructor in the B-1, teaching at the FTU, 1 year remote to Korea, with SOS in residence and correspondence, and a MASTERS degree at the time of his board. No negative paperwork. If this guy wasn't a good dude/hard worker I might understand, but he is one of the best guys in the squadron. He had a P.
  23. I allowed them to have pets. I should have asked for a bigger deposit but it wouldn't have mattered since the carpet was $4000. It is very simple, I put in the lease that if any damage was done to the house they would be held responsible. There were never any pets in the house before he moved in and then there were piss stains everywhere when they moved out. I think that would have been a pretty easy case to win in small claims court. He signed a contract and he must abide by it. Why are you surprised that I got anything out of him? I asked the SNCO's in my squadron what they thought I should do and I did exactly what they recommended. They all told me he would be held accountable by his chain of command for the incident and I think he knew it.
  24. I was selected for Major on AD. What happens if I leave for the Guard before I pin on? Do I get to pin on right away if I'm hired into a Major's billet? If I'm only a month or so away from pinning on in AD, should I just wait until then and then make the move or does it matter?
  25. I recently had a TSgt and his family at Ellsworth that rented my house. When he moved out his dogs ruined my carpet with piss stains everywhere. I had two carpet cleaners come out and both said the carpet was ruined and took pictures for me. I got an estimate from Lowe's for the cost, which was $4000. I told him that I would pay $1000 of it since the carpet was 4 years old and he was going to pay the other $3000. He gave me a little trouble and tried to not pay it but I told him that I was going to take it to small claims court and email his CC and First Shirt. We eventually agreed that he would pay me $200 per month interest free for 15 months because there was no way he could pay me up front. It would have been very simple and cheap to take him to small claims court in South Dakota, you don't even need a lawyer. He has been paying me for a few months, and if he stops I will contact his chain of command and take him to court. If he is military, and you take him to court and win and he doesn't pay, it will likely affect his security clearance.
