  1. I don't get it. So if he had known from the beginning of UPT that UAVs were an option he would have "worked his ass off" harder? Working his ass off like he did obviously earned him in the bottom two of his class so there should be some motivation to not end up there, UAV or not in the drop.
  2. Did you buy a house there? Have issues selling it? It's not that difficult
  3. Buy off base. You'll be glad you aren't in a dump and you won't have the annoying buzz of T-6s flying overhead. You can get a mortgage for less than your BAH.
  4. Why don't they just save us all a waste of time and money training these students at UPT phase 3 and take the two bottom students out of the T-6 phase and track them over to UAVs? I too don't know how they can say that they won't automatically pick the bottom two out of phase 3. How is that fair for anyone? Why work hard to pass check rides and daily rides if they won't assign you based on ranking?
  5. Besides some unique personal reason to list these first on a drop list, I guess this should be motivation enough to not finish last in your UPT class.

I can go with most of the actors wearing uniforms but there is something about Emma Stone in a flight suit and ABUs that I can't buy. Senior pilot too! Go Emma!
  7. Correct, was wanting to meet promotion board and get more $$$$ this year.
  8. So I separated 29 Sep but I now have a 16 day break in service due having an incompetent recruiter and the huge amount of people who had to be scrolled. It looks like I wasn't scrolled until 15 Oct 2014. I was hired by a reserve unit last summer but it took until earlier this month to get my orders to come to work. Has anyone else received this break in service and is there a way to get it corrected? It looks like I was scrolled after my DOS but that was outside of my control and I hope I can argue that somewhere. I found the link on the AFPC website where to request service date changes but wanted some more ammo to include in the request.
  9. If you are forced to go to graduation and the food sucks (who doesn't like mystery prime rib?), can you have the option of paying the full price meal fare but still ordering the kids meal chicken tenders and tots? If I'll be chastised for not going then I'd much rather pay full price but get a meal I would actually eat. I guarantee you leadership doesn't care what you eat but the club is mad they are losing out on an extra $13 per plate.
  10. Got approved today. 2005 11M at a UPT AETC base. C-17 background. Got the email around 4pm today. My UPT ADSC was AUG '17, GI Bill transfer ADSC APR '17 and my TA ADSC was FEB '15. Congrats to those who found out. I applied originally and got denied for the waiver thing. Reapplied in March.
  11. Any RC-26 pilot jobs opening up soon?
  12. Went through today. Customs only took about 20 minutes. The rotator had been delayed so much and they didn't tell us when we boarded at the Deid that our expected two hour ground time in Germany turned into an 8 hour delay!!! Everyone had to change their commercial flights. I made it to the gate with about 20 minutes to spare and changed into sweatpants and a t shirt. I was on the World airways MD11 and it was open seating.
  13. Cool story. I'm actually at the end of my 72 hour bag after three days of trying to get out of here. I haven't seen my checked bags since Tuesday.
  14. Three questions. 1. For those that have flown back to BWI on the rotator lately, how long did it take to get through customs and get your bags to take to check in for a commercial flight? 2. Would it be tough to make a 0930 commercial flight if the rotator gets in around 0615? 3. Is flying in desert flight suits that big of a no-no? Due to the short connection time I will be rushing around and might not have time to get clothes out of my suitcase when I land, find a place to change etc. I can't remember ever seeing people flying commercial in tans but was thinking I might have a good excuse of spending the last 5 months in the desert if anyone asked me. Thanks!
  15. I am deployed now and submitted my VSP application on Thursday morning. My SQ/CC was pretty quick to approve it that day and send it up but it is still pending review with the Wing/CC per the status page as of Saturday. I have no idea if he is on leave or not in the office since I am not there but I would have hoped it would have been sent up already to AFPC. Maybe he is taking the weekend to sort through all of the crap or maybe his computer crashed with all of the applications he received. I just want to get out!
  16. Has anyone received word if the LADSC waiver program is different from the VSP program? Specifically if the GI Bill ADSC note in the 13-65 about waiving the benefits applies to VSP people? It appears like VSP and LADSC waiver are two separate programs. If I give up my rights to the GI Bill benefits by applying for VSP, that is a pretty raw deal. I transfered my GI Bill benefits and my ADSC for that ends before my UPT commitment ends.
  17. I just got off of the phone with the total force service center and the gentleman I spoke to said to just apply and AFPC will figure it all out. He agreed that it was a little unclear about UPT ADSC but suggested to apply anyway and see what happens. I wish I were able to be this inconsistent and unprepared in my AF job like these clowns are.
  18. Does time on station come into play for 365s? One possible scenario for me is I could hit 4 years time on station when my ADSC 2 year PCS window starts. If I don't PCS before that and then turn one down after that and am told to stay put, does 5 and 6 year time on station send you to the top of the bad boy list or is that just a myth?
  19. Does the day you select for your date of separation on the VSP application have any effect on the likelihood of getting your VSP approved? If I select a date near the last day of 29 Sep 14, will the board process all of the applications that have earlier dates closer to the 8 week minimum processing time?
  20. Piggybacking on HuskyPilot's question...Has anyone in Texas used All ATPs at David Wayne Hooks? I don't think I will have the leave days or time off for Higher Power.
  21. Don't put UPT students on a pedestal. Everyone makes mistakes, including the 3,000 hour ANG/AFR regional jet pilots who come through... Heck, you are not going to find any AF pilots out there that haven't made mistakes so don't worry about it. As a T-1 IP I've seen students not call for checklists, try to takeoff or land without clearance, try to land gear up, overspeed everything, get the plane in the stick shaker in the landing flare and more that I dont care to bring up. I've had classes where the 3000+ hour student is the worse pilot I have ever seen and I would never step foot on board an airliner they were flying at their regional job and I've had classes where the top students have 0 flight hours when they show up for UPT. Everyone has a pretty equal chance of doing well, being number 1 and receiving their top assignment, mistakes included.

If you are last in your UPT class, do you deserve the plane that 5 or 6 of the students ranked above you want ? Is that fair to students who worked hard, passed check rides, didn't go to any 89s, etc ?

To be fair, not everyone there wanted to be there. Not every UPT student performs well enough to "pick" their assignment. It changes every UPT class but I've seen it happen over the last year or two where some planes (U28,PC12, Dornier, Skytruck) go to the top students or equally as frequently to the 1-3 kids in the bottom of the class as their last choice. Some kids are gung-ho and want the crazy AFSOC mission, do well and get their top choice. But others in the class suck all through UPT, have false visions of the C-17 or KC-10 up through drop night, and are surprised/blindsided when a U-28 pops up on the screen. I have felt a little bad sending kids to that mission who didn't want it, but in a way they earned it.
  24. Don't worry about it now, things will be different by the time your FAIP tour is over. Plenty of time to change change your mind then.
