  1. went a few years ago....good time. Wanted to go and visit the Aviat booth this year, but too busy.
  2. There are some good bands out there. Shoei and Arai rank among my favorites, but Suomy and shark are pretty nice as well. Whatever one you choose, the most important part is that it fits. The cheek pads and interior padding must be snug!
  3. Buells are not over priced in the used market. You can find fairly new bikes for not too much money. I wish people would ride some other makes of bikes other than japanese, before criticizing every other company. Find a bike you like and get it. Who cares what other people think. Try and ride all kinds...dont limit yourself. Thats the best part of bikes....so many options!!!
  4. Sorry M2 but your dead wrong. I have owned 3 Aprilia's (RSV, Tuono, and a Futura) and had not had a single mechanical problem that was major. Only issue was a turn signal switch breaking, and that was covered under warranty on the RSV. I have put over 20k miles on those bikes and loved every single minute of it. Do some research and you will retract your statement. Find yourself a dealer down there in TX and go for a test ride....I wont be surprised if you end up buying one. I suggest www.af1racing.com or www.apriliaforum.com Some great info!!
  5. Im not saying an SV is a bad bike. I really really like them, and know many who use them for race bikes. I guess what Im trying to say is, there is a difference between the bikes. Just because its a v-twin doesnt compare it exactly with a Ducati. Would I buy a low end monster...probably not, but would I buy a Spoirt 1000, Paul Smart, Hypermotard, 1098...YES!! The bikes are made different. Are they the fastes or most powerfull...heck no....but they are fast and they are a joy to ride. Find a place where you can demo ride something and Im sure you will see my point. Why not try an Aprilia....italian design and beauty with very little maint costs!!!
  6. Actually those educated people will own an italian machine. Seems as neither of you have had the oppurtunity to own one or even ride them. Mechanically they are great and they ride awesome. You should really try them out. If you like the SV, then you will love an Aprilia or Ducati. That mechanical failure stuf is back in the older days...they compete now!!
  7. Anyone think he might have taken the jet in to try and avoid the houses and such?
  8. I have sirius and love it....regular radio sucks! Commercials all the friggen time. I dont think I will ever go back to radio, unless satelight companies start charging an arm and a leg. Sirius is around 12 bucks a month, or you can pay a yearly fee up front. There are a few receivers you can choose from. They have a bunch of cool options and I feel its worth it.

  10. Here is how I did my stuff. I got two alternates and a primary slot (just to show you it might help you guys) I did not staple anything (unless it says otherwise!!) I had everything printed out on nice paper, but not super duper expensive stuff. I put everything into an order that made it easy to read and follow. -Cover letter or specific unit sheet -resume -pcsm score -afoqt score -3-5 letter of recomendation (put the one I felt was the best as first) -official college transcripts if the unit had anything else they asked for make sure to add it in. I then took all the papers and used a paper clip in the top left corner to hold them together and then stuck it in a plain color folder. I used blue (not gay light blue, but dark manly AF blue! Dont just use any old folder laying around, go out and get yourself a new one that costs 30 cents). I then take the folder and stick it in a manilla envelope and put the address on it. Then you can mail it out. The folder makes it nice because they stack the packages, and it wont be falling off and go all over the ground. Plus it keeps all your stuff together in a nice and easy to read manor. The paper clip allows them to flip through the package freely. I addressed every resume and cover letter to the specific unit I applied to. I didnt apply to every fighter unit, so it wasnt hard. Take the time and do this because it shows you are a little more interested in than just the regular jow blow wanting to fly jets at any location. any questions on stuff just ask away!
  11. And dont put the base patch or squadron insignia on the UPT package anywhere....quick way of getting yours thrown in the round file.
  12. forget that ......how bout some rides for us MX guys who get shat upon and give rides to celebs, shoe clerks and journos
  13. A-10 unit Why do you want to fly the A-10 How do you feel about killing someone explain induced drag whats your idea of a perfect day do you wear pink shirts do you have a fart can on your car have you ever met an f-15 pilot, if so did he hit on you favorite movie biggest accomplishment biggest failure what do you plan to do for a job when you are a part timer explain your speeding tickets why did you get a C in calculus
  14. my ANG base had no probs with you flying in your GA aircraft. Many of our pilots did it and quite a few maint. personell. We even had a special parking area. There was a decent amount of paperwork and you had to have permission from higher ups. But my base was at a civilian airport and we had a decent amount of extra room.....other bases might not be so generous.
  15. I dont think any of your experiances or circumstances will hurt you. Being prior enlisted and in a responsible position is worth quite a bit. Your deployments show you are accountable and you can perfom under stresses. With what backround you have posted it looks like you can be a top candidate but there are still somethings to do. Get the AFOQT and TBAS done and get your PCSM scores. I sugest then finding some units or airframes you would like to focus on flying. With that in mind, find the units contacts and try to schedule a visit to the flying squadron. Some times these contacts are recruiters, but I highly suggest calling the squadron directly and talking to someone who is a rated flyer or deals directly with them. Find a good time for both of you (most likely a drill weekend) and go visit. The best advice anyone will give you is to be yourself. Dont be cocky, too talkative, not too quiet or whiney. Just DONT BE A DOUSCH BAG!!! If ya have any more things let us know....but do a search first...great answers laying around!!
  16. Id probbably go loadmaster. I was a crew cheif in a viper unit, and while I met the pilots I didnt really get to know them well. First choice would def be life support...but if thats gone, loadmaster still flies!!
  17. Call and ask them when its best for them. Most will prob say drill weekend. I wouldnt bring beer as you never know what your gonna run into. I would wait till maybe a second visit or so (if thats even necessary)....just go and be urself.
  18. i like how he makes new names and then posts on his side......what a giant pole smoker
  19. I had a feeling they didnt mind....thanks for the info!
  20. do they like having visitors? I was told by a recruiter that squadron visitors just bug them....any truth to this?
