RVS on the KC-767 works…ask the Italians or Japanese. USAF specified a different RVS system for KC-46.

Saudi F-15Ses have been downed to SAMs as well, so the perfect record stands I think? weren’t there USAF F-15E losses back in Desert Storm?

Hey, if the ramp and cargo door mods are indeed swappable then fine, that limitation is gone. If it’s tanker-only and no cargo beyond pax and hand-loaded stuff/bundle loads, then not a problem. That’s what Boeing did way back in the day to make the C-97 the KC-97. But those cargo doors were basically bomb-bay doors but at the back , modern airlifters the ramp is part of the cargo storage area, a lifting aid, part of the structural integrity for stuff like ditching, pressurization, etc With the boom on there tho, how ya gonna load the palletized fuel cells? That looks awkward. Or put them in before the boom ramp/doors?

Years back I commented on how this expectation was foolhardy, to graft a boom onto the C-17 and now have a combination airlifter/tanker. It could be done, but would come at a cost. Since this -390 has the same two-piece cargo door/cargo ramp setup the C-17 does, the same issues could come into play - the stowed boom has to tuck up against something, and where you mount it to matters - you go with the ramp, well now the ramp can’t lower beyond 90 degrees-ish so not that useful for airlift beyond pallets (for which, any forklift or k/scissor loader to load/unload said pallets now contacts the boom sticking out); if you go with the cargo door, now you have less upper envelope to work with when the doors are open, vehicles/rolling stock and pallets get way limited in how tall they can be, etc. Plus however you route the fuel lines to the boom. I imagine you could scab it onto the side of the aft fuselage, like the Russians with the Il-76 tanker, then it’d at least be out of the way. But unless you do it like the very old C-97 and have the whole cargo door and ramp come out and be swapped for the boom mount plug, there’s issues that really limit use as a cargo aircraft once you add on a boom somewhere.

We get LESes with zeroes for pay next week. A couple of those…I don’t know how people will react, but what is a reasonable expectation for people to continue to report for work without payment? This admin already has broken trust from the previous shutdown. i am concerned.

15-20k is one hour of C-17 flight time also. Obviously not the intended receiver, but again really not that much.

Could it possibly be that Disney executives are spineless pussies who cave to pressure from all sides? Bill Maher had a great commentary on that this past weekend, one consolation for Jimmy that he said was “well, at least you won’t have to pretend to like Disneyland anymore!”

From my understanding, a lot of the USAF’s issues with the KC-46 come from their program requirements they pushed to Boeing…the KC-767s have not (publicly at least) shared these issues. - TSgt John Chapman MoH saga
