  1. Checks...At least she only wants it because she actually likes the car, not to "save the environment" or some other such nonsense.
  2. Pay in cash at the airport...then how will they charge you?
  3. Takes alot of horses to make .5 past light speed... '03 Lancer, OZ Rally edition. Manual transmission, of course. The wife is trying to trade in her Beetle for a new Prius.
  4. So we now need to publish the flight plans of all large aircraft in the NY Times? "Muhammed, did you see AF 1 will be over the apartment building tomorrow? Did the Stinger come from EBay yet?"
  5. I'd rather take the B-1 flying than high-speed abort. Alot of it has to due with weight for us...we're typically taking off at a fatter weight than our ideal landing weight, so there's more mass, and therefore, more momentum for the brakes to overcome, even at the same speed as a long landing.
  6. I wonder if we don't have all the information on what kind of restrictions were placed on this fight. To me, it's a fairly laughable idea that a T-38 could close to the visual arena on an F-22.
  7. At least they weren't in their service dress.
  8. Umm, no. I didn't get any extra bonuses for signing on to OTS...why do you think you should get special bonuses for going a different commissioning route? You aren't incurring a commitment without financial compensation...the USAF is going to pay you the entire time you are on active duty.
  9. I guess that high-tech radar doesn't do much for you on the ground.
  10. BONEs don't have TCAS either.
  11. We neglected step one, build a fence. That would have prevented the boating.
  12. So if we know where the boom town is...how about some JDAMs on Somali pirate HQ?
  13. A few trillions? for less than half of AIG's share of the bailout, we could have finished production at 300 Raptors. Maybe the USAF needs to start taking on more debt so we can get a bailout too.
  14. Makes me wonder if this isn't one of those self-fulfilling prophecies...they were out of everything but XXXL, but people needed PT gear, so they bought XXXL...which shows in AAFES inventory system as "Holy crap, look at all this XXXL stuff we're selling, but we haven't sold any smalls"...which leads them to stop stocking smalls and start stocking more XXXL...which means sales of smalls are still way down, because there aren't any to buy. Micheal Dell made this example...a customer comes in looking for a red Mustang, but the car dealer only has 3 yellow ones. Maybe the sales guy is good enough to talk your customer into buying a yellow one, but that doesn't mean there's mre demand for yellow Mustangs than red ones.
  15. Well, look at it this way...the guy is publishing the Al Qaeda playbook. Sure makes it easier to defeat the enemy when you know what he's up to. Not that I think this guy is anything more than a Taliban wannabe too chickensh!t to join the fight.
  16. Our direction was "mission planning is traditionally done in flight suits".
  17. Unless the course has changed significantly since I was there last November, Self-Protect is BUFFs, not BONEs. Managing 8 jammers in different spectrums manually? BUFFs. Keeping an eye on the computer running your jammers for you? BONEs.
  18. This chick sounds familiar...did she go on to fly B-1's?
  19. We do that at roll call...no pointing with your fingers, so most guys go with the elbow (a few opt for the "gesture with the beer mug", also acceptable). No one in my squadron does the pointing with elbows outside of roll call on Fridays, though.
  20. No. That one is always sent by an LT in the WG/CC's office, since many Monday's we're actually in flight suits due to the projected frigid temperatures. I don't mind the head's up (not that I've had to wear blues yet). It's the tone in the shirt's commentary when he forwards it to everyone that gets me.
  21. Of course, that works when your unit issues that stuff...or hell, your AAFES has parkas in stock. I got here in July, and I STILL don't have a winter weight Nomex flight jacket.
  22. Hopefully you're not at a base where April 1 can be colder than March 31...We've got a wicked snowstorm here right now. On a related note, our WG/CC has been using that "Northern Tier Base" to let us wear utilities on Monday if it's projected to be cold. The Shirt's a little snappy about it...every Friday we get an email that says "the UOD will be such-n-such", and the Shirt always forwards it with the commentary "for those who obey the order".
  23. So we can change the service dress every few years, but getting a crew neck t-shirt ruins our "heritage"? And one more, .
  24. The toner one is posted above the MPC printers at the BONE FTU.
  25. I'm guessing even if you do the stealth and AESA upgrades, you're still way under $100 million. F-22's are nice, but with the current administration's focus on big military budget cuts, maybe this is a decent alternative until we can drum up some more money. We've already bought all the Raptors we're going to, why not upgrade the Eagles we have to supplement them? I don't think anyone's arguing that we should cancel our Raptor order...I just don't think we'll have enough Raptors to get the job done.
