It seems so. The AF needs to get serious about fixing the soda straw problem that RPAs have. I'd say we should strap cameras 360 degrees around them, but bandwidth to bring those feeds home would be an issue. This technology is still many years out, but it will be awesome when we get software that can identify other aerial vehicles/threats visually and determine their relative positions, then transmit that to the container.

I second this. You know what you can handle, and it also depends on what items you hooked during your checkride. If you screwed up an instrument ride because of one autofail item, then it doesn't matter. If you got a 1U, it doesn't matter that much. If you got an 8U, that's another thing. Flight commanders also have a lot of sway. I'm not sure how much flight commander preference comes into play during track select, but I know in assignments it's huge --- I've seen people hook T-38 checkrides and get arrested, and still track fighters because their flight commanders liked them.

UAVs don't drop anymore from UPT. They were dropping MC-12s for a little while, and they stopped that. Now a bunch of those guys will be shipped off to preds. Army does have enlisted operators, but those guys are... special sometimes.

Since lining up by class rank and getting issued your MWS wasn't military enough? A helmet? In a shipping container? In all seriousness, you're right. Your MWS is what you make of it (for the most part). Back to the topic, It's difficult to prove your legitimacy as an MWS if your people have little buy in, and it starts a vicious cycle that makes it a "shitty assignment". It's also ######ed up when you get communities off-loading their problem children on the "must-fills". The RQ-170 program is gaining their dudes through an interview process, and it's not a bad way to go. But then again it's a completely different beast. If I were facing a robot, I would definitely try to work my way in that direction.

As it turns out, crushing someone's dreams in front of their friends and family and half the base tends to leave a mark. Who knew.
