  1. I'm wondering if during RTU at Luke I'll have the time/energy to go skydive at Eloy on the weekends? I'm trying to decide if keeping all my gear is worth it or if realistically I won't really jump all that often. If I just end up going once every couple months or so, then I'd rather just sell my stuff and rent when I go. Has anyone here gone to Luke who skydives? Even if you don't skydive, what is/was your impression of time available on weekends? I'm wondering if I'll be slammed (sts) on Sundays w/ studying like UPT Phase II (or worse) and/or be so tired that a drive up to Eloy plus jumping all day just won't happen that often. Thoughts? EDIT: I suck, thanks for moving this whoever did.
  2. Agree w/ Riddler and Techsan. Don't take the earliest class and get married during Phase II. 4 weeks in, you're going to be very tired, stressed and in no mood for a wedding and even the slightest amount of work for it. Do both of you a favor and get married during Phase I.
  3. 2. You may not have sat a 12 hr watch, but I bet you've sat in the flightroom for a 12 hr day when it was too shitty wx to fly. The flightsuit is comfortable, but has no "use" when you're sitting on your ass reading books, watching computer screens, etc. People who think everyone should wear flightsuits are just idiots. I hope you kicked him right in the nuts.

    Simpson Tide

I completely forgot about that one...hilarious!
  5. You owe 10 yrs post winging and that's it AFAIK.
  6. I don't know what the specifics are, but I doubt a 38 "TX" is any less than a 38 "re-qual" (which if I'm thinking correctly is the same thing said differently). Point is, you'd have to teach a heavy guy from square 1 how to fly a 38, where as the 38-trained guy has to just get back on the horse kind of thing...just like every T-6 FAIP does who goes to a fighter. And yes I know the heavy guy would have been flying a real airplane which does make a difference, but there's still a vast difference b/w flying a 38 and the type of flying that follows and the type of flying that follows a T-1. Not saying guys don't have the ability to x-flow, but that difference would have to be accounted for.
  7. Hahaha. Dude, don't you know the greatest "fighter pilot" to ever live flies the U-28? (inside joke everyone else).
  8. Good point on the chances. At least if you go T-1s you've still got a pretty good shot at not getting a UAV, but I heard pretty much what you posted in the UAV thread, so chances are going to be "good" on the 38 side to get one. Sucks...I can definitely understand your thought process on the whole track select thing.
  9. If that's true about the Tones getting UAVs, then I foresee helos and 44s becoming very popular.
  10. I suspect once the UAV bomb is dropped, there's going to be a big push to avoid 38s. There will always be at least one or two guys who are die-hard fighter and want to at least take the chance, but I bet we stop seeing classes of 5+ guys wanting 38s really soon. In my friend's class there's 5 dudes that want helos. He said it sounds like most are changing their mind about 38s, including him.
  11. You can't go to your first squadron and tell the CC they have to put up cameras. You also aren't going to get very far if you say you can't do your job b/c you refuse to turn a light switch or something along those lines. I know you're saying there's ways around it, but the problem I'm seeing is "there's a way around it" is adding up and up...which will lead to your CC telling you to suck it up and just do your job. I can just about promise you there will be a point after you comission where you will be forced to break a religious rule (even something as simple as using a computer plugged into the wall). If you're not ready to deal w/ that kind of stuff, then you need to find another line of work. Is there a way for a Rabbi to give you a sort of "blanket" OK to do these types of things considering its for the military and defense of the country? I guarantee you the Israelis work 24/7 in the government, military, etc. They don't take Fri night - Sat night off. So if they can do that, then I think you can too.
  12. Like the Aero phys guys say, a shorter, more "built" guy will handle Gs better. That makes sense. However, I've seen skinny bean pole guys handle Gs better than a shorter, stockier guy. At the fuge the first time they showed us a video of some dude who was like 6 ft something and could not GLOC...he'd just sit there talking at 9 Gs and be completely fine...WTFO! So really it all just depends on YOUR body and how it adapts. But, obviously working out makes a big difference. Lower body is where it's at, lifting upper will do pretty much zero for Gs (except for abs).
  13. Question, why can't you even talk directly to women? Obviously just talking to a woman doesn't mean you're automatically hitting on her, seeking to date her, etc. So why would it be an issue to fly w/ a female A/C (example stated above)? Does being an Orthodox Jew basically bar you from talking to women except those in your family?
  14. I think they're $15 or so. I never did it b/c like others said, the card sucks. In your case, just sign up and cancel ASAP after the reception. Also, just don't actually buy anything on the card, that way you won't forget to pay it off and then owe 20% interest or something insane like that.
  15. My flight cc at ASBC was an orthodox jew and was Acquisitions before he was an ASBC instructor (why the hell you'd want to do that I have no idea). I asked him about it out of curiosity and he said for the most part he had been accommodated pretty well. Secondly, you said you don't have a desire to do anything flying wise, so the comments above about hanging out for roll calls and at the bar on Friday night, etc. probably won't apply to you much, if at all. So, outside a deployed environment or exercise, you can pretty much count on a standard 9-430 M-F job. Some jobs will differ on that, but a lot of the support jobs (Finance, MPF, Services, etc) work those hours (or at least they claim to!).
  16. I've always heard guard/reserve guys have to be in the top 50% of their class in Phase II to continue to 38s. So yes, your MASS does matter (as long as what I've read/been told is still true). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  17. That's just a case of "shit happens." Some IPs grade harder/easier than others. One stud gets the hard check pilot while the other gets the easy check pilot (sts). Some fly an important ride on a perfect day while another has to deal w/ bad weather and a SOF wx recall (SA gone), etc. It's happened since day one of UPT's existence and should be accepted as part of the deal. Don't complain or use stuff like that as excuses; there's no such thing as one person getting "screwed" by stuff like this and another not. Everyone has to deal w/ this kind of stuff at points, so who cares, it's all fair in the end. The phrase, roll with the punches, is the best way to look at UPT.
  18. We were shown the exact thing Franchise posted back in T-6s prior to track. So that's the math you should go by, but like Tweet said, FC ranking can make a big difference, even though it's "only" 20%. If the FC ranks you high and your grades aren't in the shitter (which they're most likely not if you're ranked highly to begin with), then you'll probably get what you want. You can have good scores and a low FC ranking and you will probably not get what you want. I saw both situations when I went through UPT...the guys who worked hard, helped others, volunteered for stuff, etc. had a better relationship w/ the IPs and thusly were ranked higher. The FC will usually try to hook up the studs he saw working hard and helping others.
  19. It's the same way in skydiving...the group that has a lot of experience is the one w/ the highest amount of fatalities. I guess you start pushing it b/c you think you have the skills/ability to do so.
  20. Welcome to the club. It was kind of annoying both $ rides when absolutely nothing "memorable" happened. Still, you'll think of something, even if it comes 1 week prior to graduation (sts).
  21. From the article - "Right now, no one is saying what may have caused the crash, but we can only assume strong winds may have contributed to the crash." And I assume you have expertise in the aviation field and thus can make accurate assumptions about crashes. Jackass media. Glad the pilots are ok.

    PJ/Pilot

Definitely a cool job and very rewarding I'm sure, but flying is my thing and I don't think I could see myself seriously doing the PJ type thing. It's way too much for someone who doesn't have 100% of their heart in it.

    Gun Talk

You can check guns on any airline. You just need to declare it, have it in a locked case and not have any ammo in the same bag. Secondly, HI does not have CCW for all intensive purposes, so you're SOL.
  24. Several missed opportunities. U for SA. I doubt it. It's not like it's unsafe to jump out of a plane just b/c you use or have used tobacco products. As toro said a couple posts up, its standard AF to ask this kind of thing and then give you a health lecture. On one hand I really doubt it makes a difference, on the other hand you can say "no" (there isn't any physical exam, tests, etc. for Free Fall). But, that decision is up to you.
  25. All of us in our group wore flightsuits, w/ some of us wearing gortex pants over them purely for waterproof purposes. It's really not a big deal wearing a flightsuit...and that's when there was 6ft of snow and it still snowing, so really, no reason to wear BDUs.
