Proud owner of new Rock River AR-15...looks like Christmas came early this year! Gotta love being a single Captain and being able to buy what you want :)
-
That's a pretty good deal on an LCP, but be careful into thinking the BX prices are always going to be the best. There are places here in ABQ that will sell us Glocks, XD's, M&Ps, etc at the law enforcement price which is typically much better than the BX price.

Anybody else planning on increasing their TSP in light of the fact that our taxes might/will all go up 1 Jan 2011 if Congress doesn't extend the current tax rates? I have max'd out my ROTH IRA for the last 10 years (as well as other investments in a non-tax sheltered account) and have been putting in 3% for TSP (just to put in something) the last 6 years, but now I'm thinking it might be time to do more if the gov't is going to start taking away more of my money. Thoughts?

I sure hope so! I'll let you guys know here pretty soon if they like my MBA or not. Personally, I think having a strong engineering background from your undergrad coupled with an MBA makes you a more well rounded candidate.

Yep...unless lady luck really helps me out and I get to go to the British or French school. Oh, and I should have done a google search myself--AF website says December as well. https://www.edwards.af.mil/library/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=6467

Commander told me a few weeks ago that the results would be released end of the month (and here we are), but another reliable source told me today that they'll be released this December...any other hopefuls out there hearing anything similar? I'm more anxious about the results of this board than I am my upcoming Major's board!

Pretty bold statement taking into account the 2003 BCS Championship game: Ohio State vs Miami--Double OT baby!
-
Well, they're not going to a BCS game this year, and they're still in the WAC. Dude, the Big Ten doesn't get an 'automatic' spot in the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl is part of the BCS, so there is other criteria involved than just the old school 'always the Pac Ten vs the Big Ten'. Check out the website below... https://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/19424/note-on-rose-bowl-selection-process But the biggest crime of all....is that the Big East still gets an automatic BCS Bowl bid. With Boise State moving to the MWAC next year, I think they should get the automatic bid over the Big East.

Oh, I'm sure it's already happened. Anybody out there remember the Bud Light 'Wassup' skit that the Penn State ROTC cadre performed? Supposedly they got a 'talking' to that was directed by the Chief of Staff. My take on it is that if it's good for morale, then let it be just that--morale!
-
My bet is that it will once again be extended--you still have Army/Marine Corps guys doing their one year on/one year off deployments which will make it difficult for many members to burn those extra 15 days of leave prior to 30 Sep 2011. Especially since now they don't charge you for your 15 days of mid-tour leave when deployed for a year (I so wish they would make that retroactive!).

Definitely what I needed after the end of a long day...too funny.

Holloman does...but when they order you something, they don't go through the AAFES website, but rather some other supplier website (I forget which one). They can ship anything you buy to any other BX as long as it's not the firearm itself.

Question for you AR-15 type guys (M2!!)...what's a good (fair) price for a S&W M&P15 LE? One of the local places here in ABQ will offer us military folks the law enforcement price and that goes for around $950--and with the current S&W military rebate of $100 off their rifles, $850 doesn't sound like a bad deal. Thoughts? Also, the same place is selling their M&P40c for the law enforcement/military price of $460, plus I can get the S&W $50 rebate on top of that...and the shop will also give 2 free range visits, so in the end, it's looking like a $380 value (plus tax). Planning on getting that one this afternoon! I love getting new good guns!

Your ADSC is what you owe the Air Force for AFTER they send you to pilot training--they can do whatever they want with you after the training is complete.

I just wanted to say--"In before the lock"!!

Just curious if any of you guys have used the crossbreed mini tuck or comp-tac MTAC IWB holsters? I've been researching them a lot lately and they both seem to get awesome reviews. I'm looking for an IWB holster for my Kahr PM40 and am pretty sure one of these two will work well for me. I tried a crossbreed today at one of the local gun shops (only had it for a Ruger LCP) and it seemed to work well and as advertised--though I'm sure like most holsters it will take some getting used to. Thoughts?

Dude, come on...really? As for where to live, I grew up in that area before leaving for UPT so I have an opinion on where to live and where not live. PM me if you want specifics.

First time posting on the gun thread here--just recently (last 6 months) have gotten into the whole gun thing with some help from my brothers and good friends and have bought a few pistols in the last 2 months. I just recently bought a Polish Milled 1960 AK for $650. I did a lot of research before jumping on what I determined to be a fairly good deal as I got to inspect the weapon first hand and thus of course did not have to pay the FFL transfer fee. It came with 3 magazines and a bayonet (not sure if that's standard whenever you buy an AK). A lot of forums/reviews I read showed most people pretty pleased with this AK from Century (Century also offers a warranty which is good). Anybody have good advice on where to get 7.62 x 39 ammo for cheap? I can't wait to start putting rounds through this rifle!

Can't be dual qualified unless there is specific guidance (regs, waiver, etc) to let you do so. I lost my qual in the Huey once I had a FM 8 saying I was qualified in the Mi-17. When I got back I was given a CC's directed requal to get back in the Huey.

I knew Dave from Rucker as well as hanging out with him during initial qual while at Kirtland in 04'. God Bless him and his family. Thank you Dave for giving your life to our country.

Dude--nothing has changed...they were never really good. My take on it after flying with them for a year is that a few of the older heads are pretty decent pilots and can actually somewhat lead their folks...but generally, these guys are few and far between. I had one of them tell me a story of their invasion of Kuwait...somewhat like 120 Mi-17's from Basrah to Kuwait (not very far) and they lost around 30-40 of them due to hitting power lines, hitting each other, being shot down, etc. Flying to a lot of the Iraqis means they get in the aircraft, start it up (FE does that), and they fly the aircraft from point A to point B (that is if they can flnd B)...and that's about it. Most of them have no concept of mission management, CRM, navigation...you name it. That's what we were there to teach them. But to piggy-back on what HueyPilot said--the key to the Iraqi Air Force is with their younger guys. Most of them speak pretty decent English and are much more motivated to learn 'Western' ways. I could go on and on, but to get a real idea of how it is, you just need to sit down and talk to someone that's worked with them. Having said all of this, the Iraqis are the nicest people you'll ever meet and I very much enjoyed working with them for a year.
-
Why would the Air Force care about making this a 'non-shitty' 365? They haven't cared about all the others they've tasked. And as for volunteers, again, Big Blue in the end doesn't care if they have volunteers--they'll gladly non vol anybody they can. When I did my 365 2 years ago about 25% or so were non vol'd and with the latest group of guys who just recently left for Iraq or Afghanistan to fly Mi-17's, I'd say 50% to 75% of them were non vol'd. Also, I met 2-3 fighter guys (O-4 types) that were non vol'd to the CAFTT staff gig, so again, nothing new.

God Bless those who have fallen to save others. It was a sad day for the rescue and helo community.

I think you need to study up on the UCMJ my friend. Unless I'm mistaken, you can not be 'legally' punished in the Air Force unless you are found guilty in a court martial or you ACCEPT an Article 15 from your CC, which is 'Non-Judicial' punishment. Thus, this Gen or anyone else for that matter, will not be punished until such a process has taken place. As for being kicked out of the AF, that is not punishment. The Air Force 'force shaped' and separated how many thousands of E's and O's a few years ago and are getting ready to do the same thing this time around. If the Air Force has to give the boot to someone to get their numbers right, it only makes sense to get rid of the trouble makers first.
