  1. This is true. The jury is still out on it though. It allows more flexibility as far as not having to send entire squadrons out the door. Since every squadron will have a few guys with alibis (weddings, upgrade class dates, etc) that get them out of deploying each of the other squadrons can backfill the the required bodies. It will end up meaning that guys that don't deploy with their squadron will just deploy with one of the others. The pain will come on the subsequent rotations.
  2. I wouldn't bag on our AFRC counterparts. The vast majority of them that I know/have flown with are super-smart dudes with a metric shit ton of experience. Edit/add: I agree however, that it should almost be impossible to go truly NORDO in the C-17. As far as the Aero I, half the time it seems like doesn't work anyway
  3. Update on my recent search for a .22 pistola. I went to the big gun store up here in Tacoma intent on purchasing a Sig Mosquito. I ended up buying a P226 that is chambered in .22. It's basically the P226 with the .22 conversion installed. The awesome part is that it only cost me $500 and it is coming with a coupon from Sig to buy either the 9mm or .40 kit for only $399. It basically will work out to getting the .22 conversion kit for free, since I will only end up spending around $900 for both the .40 and .22 barrels/slides whereas a full up P266 costs about that much already plus the additional cost of the .22 kit (~$300-$400). So, for those of you who are in the market for a new hand gun check out this deal from Sig. You can either get the 226 or 220 chambered for .22 and then buy the full size barrel, etc. directly from Sig. I'm not sure how long this offer will last. Cheers!
  4. I found the Sig Mosquito. It looks exactly like what I am looking for. The S&W Model 22A didn't look too bad either. Anyone own either of these that would care to comment on them?
  5. Hey guys, I tried looking through this expansive thread and did a couple of searches, but came up with squat. I am in the market for a .22 pistol. I like the Walther P22, but it is too small for my hand. I want something that resembles a tactical type handgun. I'm not a fan of the Ruger line of .22s. What do you all think?
  6. I can get her to change directions. That is pretty sweet.
  7. This was my drop. The actual results: 4x C-17 McChord (me!) 1x C-17 Charleston 1x C-17 McGuire 1x C-17 Hickam 1x C-17 Elmendorf (AK Guard) 2x E-3 (one reserve) 1x T-1 1x KC-135 McConnel 1x KC-135 Grissom (reserve) 1x KC-10 Travis 38s: F-15E F-22 F-16 (Guard) T-6 NSA Portugeuse FAIP
  8. Revival: I have the same question as Brabus. Did you end up giving the wings to your wife, Brabus?
  9. Your best bet would probably be to get a mountain bike and ride the perimeter road on base and the other assorted trails behind the golf course. Good luck riding everyday while you're in UPT. UPT will take more time of your time than you can even imagine, especially during the week.
  10. The following occurred in the RSU pattern here at Laughlin with a dude in my class on his last T-6 ride with this pattern being the full stop, keep in mind there weren't any other T-6s in the pattern: Stud: "Texan XX, gear down, full stop... T-6 Complete." Honcho controller: "Final Turn, restricted low approach." Following the penalty low approach: Stud: "Texan XX, request closed." Honcho: "Negative Closed." The stud got a talking to, but his IP put him up to it, so nothing really happened to him.
  11. I met Capt Dodson at Barksdale while I was casual there. He was flying as co-pilot for a sortie I got to sandbag on before I PCS'd for UPT. He was a stand-up guy. He was more than willing to show me what the duties of a co-pilot were and gave some sound advice regarding UPT. Following our flight he gave me his 20th BS coin as a souveneir. My thoughts and condolences go out to his family.
  12. The bus sounds more cool than what some casual bubba here at XL has done. He took his mid-90s model Ford Mustang convertible and has spray painted it to make is look like a P-51. It is kind of sad looking. He also has a vanity licence plate that says FLY AF. Hopefully, he makes it through UPT, otherwise he will look quite silly.
  13. My class has been doing $20/month class dues. We've used it to buy our class patches/stickers, pay for our track party, awards for favorite IPs, etc. $20 per month adds up when you've got over 20 people paying into it. There have been some other expenses that didn't pertain to the whole class that individuals paid for. I'd say start with $20 and go from there.
  14. Very little of ASBC mirrored ROTC. ASBC is designed to help ensure all officers know what the hell the AF is supposed to do and more or less how it gets done. It is surprising to aviation geeks (ie pilots/pilot candidates) how many USAF officers cannot tell the difference between an A-10 and a F-22 or a C-130 from a C-5. Believe me, I was there sitting in the class room with my flight and hardly any of the non-soon-to-be-rated officers could identify one jet from another. Afterwards, they all could. Don't take that the wrong way, the airframe ID is a very small bit of the course. A lot of time is spent on the ATO cycle and how it is developed from the highest level strategies to the most specific tactical requirements. 60% of ASBC is interesting and useful. The other 40% is queep you just need to put up with. The O-Club at Maxwell is cool, Montgomery is great for history buffs, and you meet a lot of cool people. It's not a bad gig. Plus, when I was there the leadership of SOC was planning on creating a Master's degree program the would be complete once both ASBC and SOS are completed. Perhaps someone who has been to ASBC in the past couple months can elaborate on the latest regarding that.
  15. Hey Riddler, I made it home safe and sound. I got a fvcking speeding ticket in Amarillo! I got tag-teamed (sts) by a couple motorcycle cops. Oh well. How is everyone doing in 07-11? Did a certain LT who's last name starts with N pass his 89 ride?
  16. I am a married LT. I love it. My wife and I dated all through college and I made her well aware of what my plans were and what UPT is supposed to be like. I involved her with all of the ROTC social functions, etc. so she got her little indoctrination into AF life. We got married a couple months before I commissioned and we've been married a little over a year now. She has been such a huge help in all the standard stuff that comes along with the military; like moving. I went to ASBC in January and she came with. She had a good time with the other wives and we got to see each other everyday. I am very glad she came with me to ASBC because I am now at IFS and that is six weeks apart. Spend time with each other whenever possible because eventually you won't be able to. As long as you keep her informed/involved you guys can make it work. My personal opinion would be to get married before UPT if you're ready to. If you both want to get hitched why wait? If you're not married during UPT she won't be able to live with you (unless you live off base), she can't get on base without you, she'll be responsible for her own health insurance, etc. You need to make your own choices though.
  17. What's with the ascots being worn by the actual muscians? I'm not sure, but I think that Tops in Blue is field testing (in combat zones, of course) the new space and missiles uniforms!
  18. Sleepy was good enough to email it to me. It had me choking back tears. Well done, RH.
  19. Photographer for Playboy Magazine or a test driver for Car & Driver or Road and Track
  20. OK, here's the story on purchasing guns at KBAD: 1. Be 21 years of age 2. Fill out the standard applications, etc 3. Have a Louisiana address 4. Have a Louisiana driver's licence OR you need to provide a copy of your PCS orders to Louisiana. As for taking the gun off base once you buy it, there is another form that authorizes you to take the gun from the BX to an off base location. You need to immediately leave the base once the gun is in your custody. Sorry, M2. It doesn't look like you'll be able to make the driver over here and buy a gun unless you somehow meet all those requirements. I took a closer look at their inventory. They have several models of 1911, a couple of XDs in 9mm, an H&K USP .45, and even a silver Walther PPK. It's a pretty nice selection really. It rivals the selection at the Bass Pro Shop here in Bossier City.
  21. I'll stop by the BX here and get the scoop on how buying from them works.
