  1. It's funny seeing someone fresh out of college claim I'm stuck in sophomore year. My sophomore year of college was around the 2001 time frame, and even though it's blurry, I'm pretty sure I had worked my way up to Skol and Natty Light. Your pictures prove my point even more so. I wonder how many of those sluts on stage showed up with a dude in a leased Benz, sporting spiked hair and $300 jeans? If that's your scene, then good on ya. But my sophomore ass prefers having a beer or ten with my buds, listening to live music and meeting cool chicks.
  2. He probably wouldn't have had trouble stopping if it were 1300' remaining. The entire runway is 2100', so it looks like he had closer to ~700' or less.
  3. If you're a douchebag that spends alot time tanning or calling people "bro", I recommend the Ghost Bar and other uptown bars. If you like cheap beer and dancing with 18 yr old chicks that may or may not have herpes, Lower Greenville is the place for you. If you're into a somewhat older crowd (23-50), with plenty of hot chicks and cougs in the mix, you should check out Addison. If you want a mix of them all, head to downtown Fort Worth. Since you want bars within stumbling distance of a hotel, I recommend downtown Fort Worth.
  4. Since we're discussing UPT-isms, since when is our unit of time measured in potatoes?
  5. What's the interaction like between the AF and Army at Rucker?
  6. Could you elaborate at all? I'm not asking for deployment locations or anything, just what type of rotation you're on. I'm in the same boat, tracking in 3 days, and I'm on the fence between Herks and Helos. Deployments aren't high on the list of deciding factors, but I'm just trying to get any current info that could help me out. If it helps, my Helo of choice would be -60s and my Herk of choice would be MCs.
  7. Plus, alcohol will get you more pu55y than a bag will. I'm proof.
  8. XL 09-13 AD Track 2 x T-38 2 x UH-1 2 x T-44 12 x T-1 I'm not sure what happened with the very last dude. The SQ/CC said T-1 but they showed a picture of a T-44.
  9. Since this thread is up, let me ask a question. I was fortunate enough to go right from Commissioning to IFS to UPT and have not been to ASBC. Technically, they could send me to ASBC after UPT, but I'm not sure of the odds on that (It will be exactly 18 months from Commissioning when I get my wings). So my question is, is there any reason I should want to go to ASBC? Will me not going affect future promotions, PME chances, etc? I really don't want to go, especially between UPT and FTU, but if it'll negatively affect me later on, maybe it won't be a bad idea. Thoughts?
  10. Do partial DITYs get separate W-2s? This is my first year being a military member so I'm new to all the deductions and incomes associated with it. So is there anything I need to be aware of when filing out my return? Moves, uniforms, allowances, TDYs, etc.
  11. Any new housing gouge for NAS CC? I read somewhere that they were building new base housing. Anyone have any info on these? I like the convienience of living on base but I've heard the base housing isn't the greatest. Besides the island, any decent neighborhoods near base?

    USAA

Has anyone refinanced their mortgage through USAA lately? I tried to get the rates online but I always get some message telling me they're unavailable. The wife and I own a home that's currently being rented and we're currently sitting at 6% fixed for 30 years. I'd like to lock in one of these lower rates but I'm not sure if USAA usually makes you pay points or has some ridiculous closing costs.
  13. Last year they had a New Year's ball drop thing outside of the American Airlines Center (where the Mavs and Stars play) and it was pretty big. They used to have something in the West End but I'm not sure if that still happens. There will be plenty of bars doing NYE parties but be prepared to pay a ridiculous cover. I went out in FTW last year and just went to a few bars, nothing special.
  14. For the last couple years I've been a disciple of Maker's and all of its greatness. When doing a little research today I found that Maker's produces a 101 proof Bourbon and packages it in a gold-tipped bottle. Supposedly they still make it but it is no longer sold in the US, but can be found in Japan. So has anyone seen this stuff anywhere and more importantly, how much would it cost for you to ship me a bottle or two?
  15. http://www.military.com/entertainment/offb...eer?ESRC=dod.nl Anyone been to any of these places or have a few to add that aren't on the list?
  16. As a Longhorn, let me say, for the love of God, please blow OU out of the water. I will be the biggest Gator fan in the world that night.
  17. The trick about Pete's is bringing a flask and telling the bartenders you are the DD so you'll get free Cokes all night. You might also get a few rounds bought for you after they get all the military up on stage. And yes, Texas women are the best. I still don't know how I got my wife.
  18. I lived in the DFW area for about 15 years, both in Dallas and Ft Worth. Dallas may have slightly more things to do as far as entertainment goes, but FTW is far and away a better place to live. Traffic is 10 times better, people are a lot more friendly, the city as a whole is just better in every way. Hell, before I left for OTS I was a City Planner for the City of Fort Worth so I know the city well. Lots of good bars downtown. Saucer has been mentioned already and I also love Pete's Piano Bar and the Pour House. The Stockyards is also full of bars. If you want to know more specifics about the city, shoot me a pm.
  19. First the Baylor debacle, now this
  20. Less chance of you catching on fire behind a desk?
  21. I've been looking on this site for a while and haven't found where the list is. Any help? PM me if need be. I am a Longhorn season ticket holder and have been looking for something like this for a while.
  22. Instead of starting a new thread... I'm planning on getting married in my uniform. I know there is a Formal Dress that encorporates a white bow tie, blue vest instead of cumberbun, and a different white shirt. Does anyone know anymore about this uniform? I asked the lady at MCS at KRND and she had never heard of it. Same for Lackland.
  23. Keep in mind that usually during a deference, your loan is still earning interest. So unless you're dirt poor and cannot make the payment under any circumstances, I'd continue paying it. Just my opinion of course.
  24. Although I'm not sure if student loans can be deferred under the SCRA, your two reasons are incorrect. The whole point of the SSRA is to relieve those of loans acquired BEFORE entering active duty service. It does not apply to loans acquired AFTER entering active duty. I got my mortgage and two car loans lowered to 6%, and both of those were acquired well before I had even applied to OTS. Also, OTS and UPT do meet the intent of the SCRA, which is meant for all those who are active duty (not sure if it applies to Guard or Reserve). To the OP, I doubt you can defer student loans according to the SCRA during OTS because to them, AD is AD. You might be able to talk to your loan provider and see if they'll do it out of the kindness of their heart. http://usmilitary.about.com/od/sscra/l/blscramenu.htm
  25. For PCS moves, are expenses involved with changing your address (drivers license, FAA, post office, etc) reimbursable?
