Gee, I kinda miss Doc! :rolleyes: At least with every bullet so far! Seriously, I would love to go to his retirement ceremony, just to see that SOB go! I have just had to endure too many AFN commercials and other BS, and I wasn't even assigned to USAFE! At least BB, the other clown prince of the European theater, was a pretty good guy in real. He read a book to my son's second grade class and they had a lot of fun. Fogelnuts, on the other hand, is a complete and utter asshole through and through, and the fact that the zero hours of combat assclown ever made it past major (much less to GO rank) typifies what is completely wrong about the USAF today. To think that SOB actually thought he should have been the CSAF, was a ****ing moron! God help the folks of West Virginia, but as least I don't have to see his wrinkly on AFN anymore, nor his Jabba the Hutt wife! I have never seen such a huge fraud, waste and abuse go unchecked as that asshole wasting the time and dollars to put his ugly mug on TV. Did I mention I don't like the guy?!? :D Cheers! M2

I doubt he would keep any of that crap, the first thing any sane person would do is dump it! There are some Ramstein bubbas here in Stuttgart for this exercise, they are wearing those "Bring Your Courage" bozo hats. I suspect there will be a mass burning of that shit once the change-of-command has taken place! I read a rumor a while back that Doc is thinking about running for govenor for West Virginia...you'd think those people would know better, but apparantly they haven't been subjected to all of his AFN commercials. The pea soup/beef stew trick is straight out of The Great Santini (which is an excellent book for you young guys or anyone who has only seen the movie with Robert Duvall). As for prop wash, that is older than I am! Same goes with sending someone out to find a yard of flightline or giving them a 10-amp fuse and telling them to take it to the machine shop to have it cut into two 5-amp fuses. Apparently urban legend has it one lieutenant tagged with that one disappeared for several hours and returned with two 5-amp fuses! Cheers! M²

Oh shit, you are in for a great assignment! You have the Dolomite mountain range right there, and the food is excellent. I've only been there TDY on a few HAWK LIGHTNING exercises, and we even stayed in tents one time (this during the build-up to ALLIED FORCE); but it was still a blast. I would recommend leaving your American car/truck back in the States as the Italians drive like maniacs (you'll learn the concept of "nose") and insurance will probably eat you alive. Consider buying a local car (there are some cool ones), but bear in mind Italian mechanics aren't the best in Europe! You scored, nice job! Cheers! M2

First, read this thread... Then go have a beer and wish you could tell your commander to **** off, as he is an asshole. He is just trying to keep you in his unit as you are probably a damn good maintainer and he doesn't want to lose you. But you are trying for bigger and better things in the USAF and anyone who doesn't support that 100% shouldn't be in command. **** the promotion BS, go get your WSO slot and kick ass, and you will do fine. If someone is more worried about getting promoted than doing something substantial in their career, then they should go find another line of work because the USAF already is over its quota of career-minded officers! Linda simply recommended a search, which I think we should do to teach the newbies that many of these questions have been discussed (some ad nauseum) before. To quote BaseOps on another thread, Linda's reply was "polite, laconic, and provided direction," and he did follow it up with what Rocker accurately described as "the stock answer to this timeless question." I don't agree with simply *****slapping a newbie by saying "do a search, dumbass;" but I do think we need to get people in the habit of doing so. Maybe I have just been on this forum too long (probably true), but I for one don't like repeating myself over and over again. Maybe we should make it SOP to do what some have done, include the links to one or two threads where the newbie can find the info. From what I read they are really in the military, but as it is a beer commercial (well, it is sponsored by a beer company), they could not wear their uniform as it would be seen as an endorsement by the DOD. I include my military ID to explain why I have a Florida license and tag (well, if there was a tag on the bike), but a Texas insurance card. Yes, it has the secondary effect of showing I am also a public servant and professional, and I do expect to be treated with more respect than some yahoo 18-year-old unemployed punk, I think that 20+ years in uniform has earned me that much. I was almost going to argue the safety issue when I got pulled over a week ago…for one, I was wearing full leathers and a helmet in a state where half of the motorcyclists ride around with just a bandana on their head. Secondly, I have had risk assessment and management hammered into my head for my entire career, I know how to balance it. Three, I have been riding motorcycles for over 30 years, and have had one pretty much my entire adult life. I have completed several MSF and AF safety courses. Fourthly, I have a brand new litre-class sportbike, engineered to operate at higher speeds a lot safer than the 30-yr-old rusting F150 with retread tires I passed ten minutes earlier. Last, I am 42, married with two kids, I am not out to kill myself. I may be having fun on the edge of the spectrum, but I am not suicidal and I know the difference. But, I passed as I didn’t think it would help my cause. The odd thing is yesterday afternoon I was at the local police station getting some unrelated paperwork taken care of, and I had a hour-long discussion with an officer on sportbikes. He was telling me the safest places to speed, and where not to, and pretty much admitted that he was a wheelie fanatic and had owned several sportbikes in the past. It just goes to show you that cops are people just like us, and just like us you will have your heroes and assholes. Hopefully you will encounter more of the former, and less of the latter! Cheers!
