  1. Down days have been used for years, we used to get one when I was in the UK in the early 80's for making our sortie goals every month. They are also used for special needs, such as training and stuff like that. The only thing about mandatory fun is that if you don't want to be there in the first place, most likely it won't be much fun. However, I worked at the IW Battlelab in San Antonio and worked for a F-111 driver who used to "force" us all to go golfing every once and a while. It was fun, although he didn't like my golf "rules"... I am so ****ing glad I am 3 1/2 hours away from Doc's lair, but some days I wonder if that still isn't enough! Luckily, he doesn't come anywhere near my USMC four-star! Cheers! M2
  2. No, as we fall under EUCOM and not USAFE, we don't get half the days off we should. Actually, we don't even get the EUCOM holidays, as they are infamous for turning a one-day holiday into a four-day weekend. We get NATO holidays, but not the strictly American ones and not even all the rest. Why, you may ask? Because I work for the Army! Am I pissed? You bet! Cheers! M2 p.s. Why can't we be treated like adults here and not have words ****'d out? ****ing hell, if you can take a few swear words then you shouldn't be in the military!
  3. First, fix the new PT program (32" waistlines are a thing of the past once you past 30...hell, you don't even have one). Two, can the new uniform and just go with the Army's ACUs (they were designed by people who actually will wear them, not some Gos at the Pentagon). Three, cut the BS, we can't keep up this opstempo and sustain cuts in manning. Four, have that guy in Europe quit wasting everyone's time with "Combat (Whatever)" and "Wingman Consideration" programs, they are downright silly and make that command look like EuroDisney. Lastly, can we talk about my next assignment??? Cheers! M2 [ 22. November 2004, 23:16: Message edited by: MajorMadMax ]
  4. "(Pages) 4-150 through 4-160: Still classified" Hell, we don't even fly them anymore... Cheers! M2
  5. The place outside the gate at Osan is called New Embroidery, 392 Shinjang 2Dong Pyoungtaek City Kyongki Do Korea, 459-122. You can call them at 82-31-662-6219 or email at newemb@kornet.net However, I have found it is better to get someone to actually go there. As for patch manufacturers, try here. Cheers! M2
  6. I do go by Mike, or M2, or many other unflattering names  ; but it is unbelievable how many people take note of my name. Even the Belg, which is odd as I don't know if Farenheit 911 was even shown over here... Still, gotta love that movie Office Space! Cheers! M2
  7. HD You don't know what a PITA it is having the same name as the filmmaker (yes, my real name is Michael Moore). Kinda like Office Space and Michael Bolton. That WAV file pretty much sums up my feelings toward my namesake as well... Cheers! M2
  8. Don't forget Hero Gear! TONS o' pilot stuff! Cheers! M2
  9. ...and a long and boring one it is! About the only thing of interest you will pass will be the set for the original Alamo movie. Be warned, there are cops along US 90 W...heading back to S.A. one day on the motorcycle I got a bit bored and opened the throttle up somewhat...I was doing well over a ton and passed on a solid line (with a clear view of the road ahead), when the car, a dark Mustang with tinted windows, heading towards me and about a half mile or so in front of me, put on a light show (red and blue) in its front grill. I thought I was hosed, so I went hard on the brakes and bleed off as much speed as possible, still doing so when we passed each other. I was watching my mirrors expecting a Smokey and The Bandit reversal and he just kept going on his merry little way! , but I wasn't complaining! However, you may not be so lucky, so be forewarned! Cheers! M2
  10. C17 I got my Masters in Information Systems through UMUC, but be aware that my degree actually came from Bowie State University (which is a historically black college, so I thought that was pretty cool! ). It took me almost seven years and three assignments to finish (’cause I was too lazy or too busy, nothing their fault), but when I got back to Europe the advisor was extremely helpful in helping me complete the program. I had to bust ass due to the time constraints, then OIF kicked off and things got really bad, but I got it done. UMUC is not the same thing as University of Maryland, and I have heard rumors (and let me emphasize that they are that rumors) that if you wanted to go to College Park after taking classes through UMUC it is like transferring from any other school...e.g, only a limited number of credits transfer over. However, like many topics on this forum, I strongly advise you go talk to the folks at your education office and local UMUC rep. They are a good program and the best thing is once you get about 1/3 of your classes completed, you can complete the program via DE or 1-v-1 programs. In other words, if you want to finish, they will find a way! Cheers! M2
  11. Glad to hear you had a good time...San Antonio rocks, spent three years there (not including basic training in 1981 and AFROTC camp in 1987) and would love to go back for my last assignment before retiring. Cheers! M2

    UK Flying

A bud of mine suggested this... I know it probably isn't exactly what you are looking for (I believe the 3AF pamphlet is), but this could be helpful. Download the Adobe Acrobat version and give it a look. Cheers! M2

    UK Flying

There is a 3AFPAM11-202 Flying in the United Kingdom but you can't download it from e-publishing.af.mil. POC is 3AF/DOLA, DSN 238-2627. If it is anything else I can't find it... Good luck! M2

  18. Wanna is correct, every Marine is a rifleman first and foremost, so you will be trained as a rifleman before being trained as a pilot. And if you don't make it through pilot training, guess what you'll be... There are loads of Marines where I work. Matter of fact, I have heard there hasn't been this many Marines in Europe since the end of the first World War! That's what happens when you hire the Commandant of the Marine Corps to be the SACEUR! Anyhow, they are a great, dedicated bunch and true professionals, but you had better be ready for the full and complete Marine lifestyle if you join. There ain't no halfassing in the Marines, it is full on all the time. Cheers! M2
  19. You would be making a bigger mistake not reporting it, even though it was dismissed in court. However, I would try hard not to get any more... Cheers! M2
  20. Wnanna My condolences as well for your loss. Something to remember is how much the person loved to fly, and what they would want you to do in the situation. I very much doubt they would want you to quit flying or pursuing a dream of being a pilot in the USAF because of their death. Death is a part of life, most people don't want to die but it happens to all us eventually. If we stopped performing every activity that someone has been killed doing, no one would drive, fly, go to space, etc. We all accept a certain amount of risk in our lives, and the best thing you can do is to avoid the stupid stuff (not having the proper gear, not getting the right training, etc) and hope to be lucky as well as good. Don't feel bad about your feelings towards your lost friend, it is normal and everyone goes through a period of mourning. Once that feeling starts to subside, you can then determine how it will permanently affect you. If you decide you don't want to fly because of it, then that is your choice and one you have a right to make. But more likely you will realize that it is not what your friend would have wanted you to do. Good luck, and again my condolences. Cheers! M2

    Aviation jokes

What do Michael Jackson and J.C. Pennys have in common? Both have little boy's underwear half off... Badda-bing, badda-boom! Cheers! M2
  22. But the best place for a custom printed flying scarf is RamaWorld...I think they'll make any scarf you want! Cheers! M2
  23. For the white silk scarf, try here. , it always works... Cheers! M2

  25. Didn't I recently read that a Strike Eagle mission in Alaska was flown by a completely Canadian aircrew? There was a line of pilots who flew with the GAF 77 Squadron Fulcrums, who passed all their jets to the Poles back in August. They have (had) a great web page. I still have a copy of a brief from one of the US exchange pilots, "Spanky", on how it was to fly the MiG-29. It had to be one hell of a fun tour! Cheers! M2
