Inside Combat Rescue
They really didn't have to "reality tv" the show at all. The emotion came through strong, especially with how the whole SF medic thing was handled. Buddies kissing him on the forehead, saying good bye... jesus that was tough. The shorter start/stop life has always been harder on me and my family than the longer departures/returns. Gone for a year on a remote, easy to plan for, easy to work around. Gone for 4 months every 3/4 months, on top of "training" and other duties. Especially if the Sq isn't supportive at all. Those "short" deployments were/are much worse. And I don't even fly.

General Petraeus resigns amid affair scandal
I have been blessed to have a decent clearance with some cool caveats for awhile now. That bolded part makes me want to drown puppies. Seriously? Just write something out.. "I think it's classified, eh.. screw it." The story, while light on details, doesn't even read that way. Possible options: She has a journal at home that she filled with classified info. She took classified docs home. Are either of those even remotely ok? Also.. with the rigid requirements for working with this stuff (inline statements, overall statements, etc) how can someone not currently involved with it not know? Additionally, with the pre-publish review requirement... wtf? Good to know you have a line somewhere.

RPA/Cyber has their medal on the way
So.... it's for people who contribute more than the Bronze Star for Service rates? Is that a deployment/PCS O5 medal, or an O6 medal. I need to update my chart. AOC commanders rejoice!

RPA/Cyber has their medal on the way
Was just wondering if there was this much fanfare when the flying medals were initially introduced. Were the infantry officers enraged that those people high above the danger were getting glittery things too? I remember reading about the fight just to get dependable weather for the fliers, real life/death stuff.

Well at least he didn't beat around the bush (STS) like Skeletor would have.

RPA/Cyber has their medal on the way
That's what the base E9 said when my OTS pkg went up for a Letter of Recommendation from the Wing King. He wanted to know why I was being nominated since I had 2 EPR's with single markdowns. Still 5's... just markdowns in single areas. Back on topic - with the news of the "new" Chinese cyber attacks out I wonder if people will back of the pissy-ness on the precedence. I doubt it.

RPA/Cyber has their medal on the way
Whoa whoa whoa... who put this E-4 in for this. My little chart here says an E-4 can only be awarded a AFAM. I'll work an AFCM for you, but it's going to need a serious push note.

More good press... $1 billion wasted on Air Force computer system
You're right. I'm assuming someone would fall on their sword to show what a POS it was and how it's failing. But that doesn't happen until AFTER they retire.

RPA/Cyber has their medal on the way
Well at least you guys get to launch something. Our verbiage is a little.. weak - "direct the cyberattacks." "Push 'Return' Amn/NSA dude. Where's my medal?"

You'd think with the way the AF is rolling towards this "Cyber Heaven" they'd have a few of the acquisitions guys head in this direction to run these things about 10 years ago. Again, it's not impossible, just difficult with the poor way we manage our "leadership".

Alaska F-22 crash: RIP, "Bong" Haney
Well good, General's validated other Generals. Nothing to see here move along. Wow... wonder what that response was.

More good press... $1 billion wasted on Air Force computer system
Actually, it was an implementation of an Oracle ERP system with CSC "tailoring" to our needs. Why we'd pay some small company to do that and not.. IBM.. or you know, Oracle is beyond me. The systems do need to get replaced, and doing one at a time is not cost effective especially when they mimic a lot of the same processes. There are good ways to manage this transition and giant lists of requirements isn't it.

I think I posted about this in the WTF thread when it first game out and have watched it spiral down into the stinking black hole it is now. There's a lot to read out there on it. One of the bigger ones is that planned mx/upkeep on the systems that were going to be replaced was cancelled as this new system was coming online. So.. that sucks. This type of work isn't impossible, it's just hard and time consuming. I'm actually getting my Masters in this sort of thing (system integrating/IA). Not even an MBA is going to be able to handle it as that's the wrong focus for this type of deployment. Pilots aren't sorted for this thing without some very specific training, and process refinement/finance (MBA) ain't it. The fact that the project managers rotate out so often is also a problem. When is that going to get solved? How many of these failures of procurement/project management are we going to have till we learn having 1/2/3 stars rotate out every 6-months so they get project dust on them for the next star is a serious detriment to the project. Also.. I'm still wondering when we're going to get people who do "cyber" in charge of "cyber" (and not space/missile/pilots) so we can flex our nerd cred in getting nerd things, like this, done.

You going to apply for a Joint School after that for their master's degree too? Get that double/triple+Joint "degree" going. Worked for the latest round of O-7's coming up.
