  1. It's cause they suck. Glad crew will be okay.
  2. If someone wants to post up the link from the AF Times, but they're finally doing something about the worst placed sewage ponds in the world. Over the years I've logged over a year and a half smelling that crap at Kandahar! Finally fixing it hopefully.
  3. What about that little joint that had the best steak in the world? Everything else on the menu was nothing. They sold steak, crappy salad, and pop by the can. I can't remember the name of it, but 10 years ago it was the best steak I've ever paid for. It was in a trailer, and the grill was right by the door as you walked in.
  4. Hehe, are you the one guy in the helo world that doesn't have a completely jacked up back? Not a knock, just a question. We don't pull G's, but I don't know anyone that doesn't suffer from flying in a helo past the first 5-6 years. Can it still be done? You bet. Will you pay for it? Yep.

  6. Ignorant comment. I agree the community help might be nice for you guys, but most single dudes I know wouldn't take advantage of it anyway.
  7. Correct. I misspoke. What we're doing isn't CSAR. We fly Med/CASEVAC mostly while constantly on alert for CSAR. Some missions more complicated than others. On the more complicated we are performing a bastardized version of RMC.
  8. Also said quite nicely. This is what we see in the permissive environment that we currently fly in (Jolly/Pedro filling that role), but it would be extremely beneficial to anyone involved in CSAR to have a "flow chart" of sorts to delineate what and who is required when. We know the answers to that already, but it would make our jobs easier to go to leadership for support of our requirements.
  9. Shack! Why bother typing up a reply on an iPad when this says it quite nicely?
  10. I just had "feedback" with my CC. I just got selected for O-4 and was lucky enough to be picked up for a school slot. No Master's yet, and I was under the impression that now I didn't have to worry about it because I would get one now on the AF's dime. He told me over and over again that I now had to go ahead and get my Master's or my career was as good as done. I told him that for me it has always been family and mission, and that if I were going to get a Master's it would be because the AF gave me one. He said that was nice, but that I still needed to get a Master's. I basically told him "No thanks." Did I just damage the rest of my career because I told my CC I wasn't going to get a Master's after getting a school slot? I even asked him if he really believed in these cookie cutter degrees, or was just spouting the party line because he was an O-6-type. He said he believes that it was truly important. I really like the guy, but this whole conversation made me question him. I realize telling him that I took my future out of my own hands, but I've always played it straight without playing the game before, and it has served me well. Heck, I somehow managed a school slot. Any of you older types care to weigh in?
  11. Chalk it up to me being a dumb Rescue guy, but less flowery speech, and more digestible phraseology might mean people would actually read your essay. You come off pompous.
  12. Don't understand why this is in doubt. I have a buddy on exchange at a French unit where they think they can pull RMC because they don't have an A-10. Well guess what, they can't. They're good dudes, and CSAR is their mission, but RMC is too difficult at the altitudes we fly at as a simple reply. And as a more complicated reply, as Rainman said, if you've got access to a 3-1 you need to get back in it.
  13. Okay, I couldn't resist replying to this. I haven't been on in a while, so my original name, JorryFright21, was deleted or something. For those of you bagging on the show of force or a friendly flyby for the guys on the ground, one question. Have you ever talked to any of the guys doing 365+ days on some FOB or constantly out on patrols about what it means to them when they see one of us come in and say hi? As Rainman said, it means a lot to them, more than you understand. Don't go crazy, don't completely disregard the rules, but you're living in a different world if you don't think that stuff is just as important as the rules themselves. I don't showboat, but I'll definitely make sure the guys on the ground are fired up to kill some more terrorists when I leave. BTW, none of this is a commentary on this specific incident with the -64, just the flat out disregard for the morale and how easily we can raise it for them with these little flybys. . Just because...
  14. Thanks for that. Was deployed to Bagram twice in '08 with Donk as the OG/CC. Never met a better dude. He did a lot for the Pedro's while he was there.
