Yeah, you're right. Lets pretend that we'll never need that capability again and plan for the easiest route. The Army has helos that can do it, and they love stopping their operations to go pick up some downed Airman... Can you honestly say that with our potential threats out there I'm basing this on Afghanistan? Quite a big assumption on your part. We have AR for no FOB's in between. V-22 defensive caps don't come close to even the min caps of our Pavehawk. Once again, benign is the only situation for a V-22.

C'mon, you can't ignore the call outs and still post like nothing's happened. You demanded to know about Rainman, you got it. Fess up.

You still haven't posted a reason why anyone should listen to you. Care to give that one a try?

It's one of the same reasons the Chinook winning bid was challenged. Is a heavy lift helo, not a medium lift. Maybe they'll change the wording this time around. It's awfully big. Maybe there are some old Pavelow guys that could better speak to this being good/bad for it.

Other than a benign situation that is real far away, what is the V-22 a great choice for? I was in ABQ when the fV-22 got its first "rescue". You know what it did? Fly really fast to the general area and orbit because it couldn't land over 8,000'. In the meantime, albeit much slower, a Pavehawk that was stripped of unnecessary equipment landed at 11,000' to infil the J's and recover the unfortunate crash victims. There's not enough equipment to strip on a V-22 to make landing at 11,000' feasible. I will agree with you loosely that it could be a great choice in very specific situations, but (and I'm pulling this number out of my arse) 85% of the time it's a horrible choice. It would be a great FOB to FOB medevac option because of the speed, but sorry, I'm not buying it for anything else. The HH-47 was a bad choice because of its size, but it's about 10x better than the V-22. Just my $.02. I don't expect anyone to agree with it, but please explain why and for what it would make a great choice. Not picking a fight, and I apologize if I came off that way. That wasn't my intention.

WTF? (**NSFW**)
I hope this embeds. My dad sent this to me from an airline buddy of his. Pretty funny, and even as a helo pilot (some can be known to be arrogant, but not me...) I can see a lot of truth in there unfortunately. Funny stuff though. https://www.xtranormal.com/watch/13404616/meet-the-new-fo Edit: embed didn't work. Tapatalk sucks...

Please no! Speaking from experience with Eurocopter's military helicopters, if their contracts are anything like what Europeans or Australians get, that's a nightmare we don't want to engage in. I know it won't exactly be Eurocopter, but it won't exactly not be either. They are ridiculous with the rights they demand to retain in order to keep a "warranty". Please no! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAcYErAoVP0 I can't wait to pick up this Kel-Tec KSG. It appears to be the ultimate zombie killer. I'll happily pay the premium on this thing if it's as good as it appears. The video is kinda funny though. These guys are "special ops" prison guards...

Still a dbag. Respect his accomplishments, but not the a-hat he's become, or in all likelihood always was.

Brits get jacked up at Groom Lake
More than likely the guards knew they were idiots, and hoped they'd eventually go away. Once they knocked, it was at a "point of no return" where they couldn't just ignore them anymore.

Gun Talk
Does it seem like a quality gun to you or gimmicky? I've read some mixed reviews on it. Did it jam on you when shooting it? Operation straight forward? It's a lot more expensive than a Mossberg, so I don't want to be a beta tester. If it seemed like a finished as opposed to a rushed product would be good to know.

So, I did a search, and maybe I just don't know how to search inside a specific thread, if that's even possible, but anyone have any experience with the Kel-Tech KSG? It looks like a pretty mean and capable HD shotgun, but for the price you could really set up a nice Mossy. Anyone have one, or shot one? Thanks.

Any word on how the Sep 24th date has affected anyone? Can I still take the old tests, or has that ship sailed?

Good military/aviation books
Well, I just finished the rest of American Sniper, barely. I don't remember who it was that recommended it, but it was on this board. I'm going to have to be more picky about rec's coming from here. That was one of the worst books I've ever read. Not only is he so completely full of himself, but it was horribly written! It was almost as if he hooked Word up to his brain, and it just typed thoughts down in the order they came to him. It was so full of his talk about how SEALs are and should be Silent Professionals, but then two seconds later talking about how awesome he was and how they deserved recognition. Once again, I have enormous respect for SEALs and the work they do, and without fail every one of them I've ever had the pleasure of meeting fell into the Silent Professional category and were very humble. Lone Survivor and American Sniper were not good books. I finished them to give them the benefit of the doubt. Outlaw Platoon, also recommended here, however is very good. The Only Thing Worth Dying For, very good, and Not a Good Day To Die very good. My $.02.

"No Easy Day" - Book revealing details about Bin Laden Raid (Neptune Spear)
Is his any different from American Sniper or Lone Survivor? I'm sorry, but I find it hard to jump on the bandwagon of love for these guys. I recognize their bad a$$ery, and am grateful for their service, but they totally came across like glory seeking hounds. How many times in each book did they say things like, "while I'm not the best, I sure crushed everyone in the world that day" or "I wasn't the best fighter in the world, or even good, but I sure could hold my own and even best some of the best..." Amazing feats, the things they've accomplished, but they are totally different from the picture of the Silent Professionals I've had in the back of my helos. If No Easy Day is different I can stomach it, but these guys are horrible writers, and huge self-promoters. Just my $.02. Flame away for me not jumping on the worship a SEAL who wrote a book bandwagon.

Motorcycle Riders Thread
I have a question. I'm at a tenant unit completely isolated from other US forces. I registered my bike through Ramstein even though I don't live there (more than a few hours away) I had about 30 days before my MSF card expired, and the German guy almost didn't let me register since I didn't have an MSF with my current bike. It is a 2012 Road King that I was just picking up, so no way to have done the course with that bike. Is this a new thing DOD wide, or was it just a peculiarity of Ramstein? When I finally go back to a US base with my bike are they going to hassle me because I don't have a current card? I can't get a TDY just for the course, and don't feel like taking leave to do it. Right now I get away with it because I'm the only US guy I ever see.

I thought he was a way better Peter Parker. I admit to reading Spider-Man as a kid, and this character was much closer to the real one, especially when trash-talking or cracking jokes as he caught the bad guys. I liked this version much more than the Tobey Maguire versions, and I think Sam Raimi is an awesome director. Army of Darkness...

Last time I tried with a reflective belt, 2010, I was told "last time allowed". I happened to have an old Black Diamond approach bag that is bright orange. They told me that with that it was fine even without reflective stuff. Now I have a Harley with saddlebags...

I have one my wife got me a few years ago for an anniversary. Titanium, black. A little fading on the steel clasp, but otherwise I love it. Get lots of compliments on it too.
