CLASSIC: De Motivational Poster Contest!
D'Oh! So obvious I overlooked it ... Harumph!

BRIGHT STAR
Did you get the impression that it was primarily a CENTCOM organized, run, and sponsored exercise? (and driving here isn't THAT bad ... you just have to realize there are no rules ... ever ... for any reason)

DTS is the devil
Nope, F#CK IT all the time. With the money spent on developing, implementing, constantly fixing, and answering questions about DTS each base could have an army of Finance Personnel ready and willing to actually help. And as a side benefit, we might end up with an army of finance personnel that actually have a shread of a clue about what the f#ck they're doing since they would get a chance to actually do their jobs on a regular basis.

BRIGHT STAR
Keep the info coming ... I'm already in Egypt and not really playing in the BRIGHT STAR, just providing good ole' american alcohol. This is the first BRIGHT STAR in 2+ years so the corporate knowledge amongst the folks that are/may be coming is pretty low. If you have any experience, even dated experience, share it. If you might be coming, ask the questions!

BRIGHT STAR
Were you guys there on toursist, official, or diplomatic passports? What sort of transportation did you have? Did they let you drive or were you bussed around?

BRIGHT STAR
Gents -- BRIGHT STAR (an exercise in Egypt) is coming this fall. For those that have been, how was it? what should folks expect for flying, living, off-duty, etc.? For those that are coming, what have you heard? I'm not directly involved (yet), but if you're coming out call me at 010-102-1429 (inside Egypt). I'll open the Air Force bar in Cairo for you!

F-22 Edwards Crash
Word from the ACES guys is that based on the sequencing, Capt Udell was likely close to subsonic when he actually left the Jet. The current Fastest Man Alive is "Lucky" Shultz. 636knots in a block 50 from Shaw in full AB pointed straight down. Also badly beaten up and all-around awesome guy.

Need some help from those knowledgeable on TMO
Take LOTs of pictures and get the TMO inspector out there and involved. And don't be afraid to tell the movers to stop if they're about to f#ck something up.

Traditions when leaving a squadron
3rd ... upside down nametag is bad karma if you're still alive. <edited to be more clearer>

F-16 VS F-15
Mostly basement dwellers that live with their parents ... much like the Moo-stank

Check out BobRoss.com ... T-Shirts are on sale and they ship to APO addresses.

F-16 VS F-15
wrong. Bigger surface means more force, sure ... sometimes. Also means more drag, usually more weight. so if F=ma (remember high school physics), and you increase BOTH the force (your big ass surfaces) and the Mass (F-16 vs. F-15, etc.), what happens to the acceleration? Can't tell can you? And that's just basic static high-school level math. Aerodynamics, learn some. You're doing a fine job of that all by yourself

Magic Jack
Yeah, you can download skype at home and place it on a thumb drive. Search on the inner-toobs and find the command line stuff that lets it run from the thumb drive without installing anything on the computer (standalone mode) ... As long as you don't mind pluggin your thumb drive in, it works like a champ. Getting a microphone and/or camera installed can be tricky, though

Skype should work on a Mil NETWORK as long as you have the admin rights to install it on a Mil Computer. Skype uses the same ports and data paths as the World-Wide-Web ... so in order to shut it down they'd have to shut down the infro-net as well. I got it to work on the Randolph network, YMMV

The "Bird splitter"
Already pretty well addressed above, but to be clear it's the shape of the face of the inlet that causes the shock waves that yields subsonic flow, NOT the "bird splitter"
-
The "Bird splitter"
It's just a structural member (STS), the front wheel sits under there. It doesn't serve any anti-icing purpose for the engine, but since it sits in a very-low pressure area it is itself subject to ice accumulation and has a heater. Next question...

Non-Availibility lodging/letter
That SPECIFIC scenario is PROHIBITED in the JFTR in no uncertain language. Take it up with the services commander, then the IG, then whatever finance office pays your voucher. Don't let a shoe or overzealous lodging manager screw you (even though they may just be following "policy"). Fight it until the policy gets fixed, or they change the JFTR. This shit is getting out of hand!

Nellis/Vegas info
I'll second Sapphires. Cheap (relatively) drinks and free for military. Not full nude (because they serve alcohol), but still quite nice.
-
Nellis/Vegas info
Do some pre-drinking at Ellis Island (behind Balleys, off the strip). They brew their own and it's dirt cheap decent beer. Don't gamble there.

Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)
Partial answer, but last I moved the temp storage reimbursment was 95% of what it would COST THE GOV'T to store said weight (not your actual cost). That was a change from actual costs (2 moves ago). It made a huge difference in the actual amount of cash paid to temp store 6000 pounds of boat and trailer. Again ... everything you need to know is in the JFTR ... worth the read!

Blues on Monday
FALSE. There is NO anonymity on the inter-toobs She may not be able to track things down hereself, but if she can convince someone it's a threat you are F#CKED. Go ask a cop or OSI bubba how hard it is (STS) to find out who Jackass@gmail.com really is ... either through legal channels or 'unofficially' Sack-up and talk to her like a real officer/man/human being/etc.

SOS/ACSC information
Pile on ... I also did the ACSC/Masters thing. (1) - The books. Many are available electronically in a DRM'd PDF format for 10-50% of the price of a physical book. Also the electronic format is searchable (see #2). (2) - The Papers, don't fear them. Some people get excited about writing that much. 95% of the reading material provided is given in PDF format. When you write a paper, it is very easy to search terms and ideas in the PDF and find the facts to fit your ideas (as opposed to shaping your ideas to fit the facts). Vista allows you to search the contents of each file within a folder simultaneously ... which speeds things up a lot and adds a lot of depth if you have all the material saved locally. Perhaps a bit "intellectually Lazy" ... but remember the goal. (3) - You can start doubling up classes after your first 3 are complete (not including the orientation). I doubled up a lot and finished in a little over a year. The "counselors" are getting a lot better at recommending which classes "fit" well (syllabus, assignment, and content-wise) together for doubling up. If you have any questions ... feel free to PM, etc.
