True or not, that's pretty much been USAF lore since at least the early 80's (when I first heard it).

    It’s more of a high G lifestyle....

    you can’t control your height.
but you can control your muscle mass and resting blood pressure. Lots of ways to reach the goal.

nicotine, bacon, whiskey, and coffee works really really well. Not the best for longevity. But can get you a 7g resting tolerance. 9+ from there is easy.

Yeah, I wouldn't be too worried if I were at Ramstein, which will be closest to be via a plane ride, but I guess I'll figure it out.  In about 6 months, when I get there, I'll post up some answers to questions I ask in case anyone else runs into a similar situation.

I guess I'm not super worried, I just want to make sure the VA doesn't screw me on disability.  The job has done a number on my body, and not being close to one of those VA counselors that takes a look at your medical info to determine what you need to do is what I will miss.  I highly doubt someone like that exists where I'm going.

Find your state’s veterans affairs department (either where you are now or where you’re going when you retire).

reach out to them now, make contacts, and explain your situation.

the state folks are usually pretty good (and pretty aggressive) working your issues with the federal VA.

our base guy was good at getting the ball rolling ... but missed a lot and it required a lot of work/coord after I retired.

ive got florida contacts if you want them.

  3. Re: fighters touching down short of the captains bars/glideslope ...

most fighter vol 3’s say to touch down 500-1000’ down the runway. In a 38 you can’t do that unless you’re starting your flare well short in the underrun.

Runway length is almost always a factor, especially with EPs. When a few hundred feet might matter, it’s good to have the practiced ability to land on brick 1.

    Why can't we start here:

Are we as a culture ok with people falling into unrecoverable lifelong poverty and never returning to be productive taxpaying citizens for what amounts to losing a medical lottery?

I think the large majority of people would agree something should be done.  If so, what?

Where in the constitution does it say the federal government has a duty to protect the citizenry from financial ruin?

  5. I am of the other camp on pistol calibers....bigger holes are bigger.

a lot of the “kick” has to do with the weight of the pistol. A super lightweight “lady” gun (lady smith revolver in 357 for example) has a sharp angry kick.  An all metal 1911 does not .... and as an added bonus can be used as a blunt implement if you’re out of ammo

Thanks for the reply. If your UPT class drop looks not so hot, is trying to FAIP a legit strategy to try and essentially get another drop?

    Yup. Another swing at bat.

Just be aware that being a faip May close some doors further down the road.

For example, Fighter WIC is/was much more of a challenge to get into as a former faip.

I’m of the mindset that it is ridiculous to make anything that grows from the Earth naturally illegal. Refining that product into something harmful is another thing.

Looking for some updated gouge. I’ve got my ATP CTP complete and test complete. I’ll be leaving Little Rock at the beginning of September and would like to get my practical complete. While I’ve read good things about Downtown Aviation in Memphis, I haven’t heard good things from some buddies (however, it wasn’t recent gouge). When I leave Little Rock, I’ll be traveling back to WV. So, anything within a couple hours distance is preferred.

Does anyone have any experience with Accessible Aviation in Mississippi?

The DPE was the only worthwhile part of accessible aviation ... and I don’t know if he’s still giving check rides. Avoid crazy Carl.

I've heard similar rumors. I've heard once the 2 piece finishes ejection seat testing and modification the bag is pretty much gone.

Personally I say good riddance. Yes, I realise the look is iconic, but green bags are as uncomfortable as hell for me. They are hotter than balls in the summer, my sweat soaks through it and anything in the breast pockets gets soaked. The worst is when you get them brand new and they have that rigid feel and then when you sweat through them the coating reacts and creates the most god awful smell.

I also hate the waist bands. If I keep them all the way out the suit looks like shit but tightening them is so awkward around the stomach, especially while sitting. I used to think it was just cause I got fat but I've since then, I've dropped all the weight and still hate them.

That said, I would be all about keeping green bags around as a heritage uniform. Something worn on a Friday with morale patches at the bar.

Love the look of the bag but not worth the Monday through Friday ass pain in my book. Would rather just be comfortable.

Once they get 12-15 years old, paper thin, and the threads turn a bit purple ... they’re super comfortable.

If he was read his rights, and chose to still make a statement, that's on him. If he was wasn't read his rights, then asked to make self-incriminating statements, that's a 5th and 6th Amendment violation (Miranda v. Arizona). However, SCOTUS holding in Frazier v. Cupp (1969) that law enforcement deception with regard to a target's confession is legal. Either way, regardless what anyone every tells you, no U.S. Citizen can be compelled to make a self-incriminated statement in any form. And if law enforcement, or really anyone, is questioning you about details about an alleged crime that you're the target of, they're never there for your benefit.

In a previous squadron when the drop from 75 to 60 occurred we had someone who took 2.5 straight months off.  We all thought he had PCS'ed because no one had seen him in so long.

It was the summer of Hoss. And it was glorious
