I may have the option to do a non-flying guard job part time (DSG) and a part-time flying reserve job and just wondering if anyone out there is doing both or if it’s an option. And if it’s an option are there any limfacs or issues with doing both. Thanks!

Long time lurker here. Ok, after 4 years of working in a shoe AFSC, I left AD and am now a reservist applying for a Guard pilot position. This question may seem pretty retarded, but I ask because I am pretty obsessive about this and want to make sure I get it right the first time. I have assembled everything for the package itself, but wanted to know what folks would recommend as far as binding, etc. 1) Should I get this thing professionally bound? 2) If so, how should the OPRs be included? Split up so front and back are facing up? 3) Should each page be laminated? 4) Should each page be removable? 5) Photo: official head shot, or something casual like skiing…

Hello everyone Couldn't find an answer to this exact question so I’ll throw it out there. Is it possible for a pilot who is a commissioned officer in the army guard to apply for an air guard UPT slot and get selected before the service commitment is over (less than 5 years commissioned service to enter UPT). Thanks in advance!

Good morning! I'm current AD Enlisted Air Force, I just got orders to RAF Mildenhall. This is going to take me 3 years, which will be the end of my contract. My goal right now is to be able to start applying to ANG units about a year out, hopefully taking some leave and flying around the country for meet & greets/interviews (hopefully). My question: I've noticed that many units require or strongly recommend applying with a PPL. Right now I've got 13 flight hours, and I leave in 2 weeks so it's not feasible for me to hurry up and finish my PPL. I've been doing some research and it looks like instruction over there is much more expensive. There's an opti…

This seems to be a difficult question to search for. If I have missed a relevant thread I apologize. I'm looking for real world examples of guard or reserve pilots (traditional part time) schedule/life set up. I know after seasoning I'll be making around 10-15K a year and committed to 6-8 days a month. Right now I'm planning on supplementing my wifes income with CFI work, some freelance website building, doing the house work/watching the kids, etc. I have thought about the Airline/ANG combo and I just think that is too many days away from home for me, especially when you consider a commute (looking at around 20days away from home at a min right?). But I'm wonderin…

What's up gents, I'm a Marine Cobra pilot and Captain looking a few years down the road. I'm a WTI graduate (our weapons school for the unfamiliar) and FAC(A)-I and I'll leave the Marine Corps with about 2,000 TT, ~1200 PIC, and ~5-600 NVG and two very uneventful MEU deployments under my belt. I've been playing around with the idea of guying Guard vis Marine Reserve and wanted to see if anyone here has had experience with former Marine or former Helo colleagues in a FW platform. I've worked with Jolly before and while they are absolute pros and represented the AF very well, my interest still lies in attack and strike if that's a possibility. Tracking that I'll have t…

Fellas, I am an interservice transfer from the Army, already a qualified H60 driver, post command, 3 tours, etc. I did not do well on my AFOQT, I thought I had studied to an appropriate level, quite frankly the math portion surprised me a little more than I was prepared for and I embarrassingly, I choked in the ambush and I scored a whopping 5 in quantitative. Scores: Pilot: 78 Nav: 62 ACAD AP: 25 Verbal: 64 Q: 5 I am pretty embarrassed to talk about this, but humility in failure is important and I have learned a very hard lesson these past few days. So I am going to set up a retest, and go forth and study my ass off and be ready to get aft…

Hey everyone, So I reached out to the 39th Flying Training Squadron about this same questions and I am waiting to hear back. Out of curiosity, can a UPT training squadron sponsor someone for UPT? Ideally, I would like to be an IP for the USAF, and go through UPT then PIT. I am currently an aviation educator (CFI/CFII/MEI and college classes for a university,) and even after 4+ years of doing it, I still love it. Additional info (if it helps;) MEd in Curriculum and Teaching will be done in March, GPA 4.0/4.0. BSc Aeronautics, ERAU, GPA 3.6 I recently turned 28. PSCM 99, although, I would like to take the AFOQT again to improve my verbal…

Fellow Air National Guard Hopefuls who are of the elderly variety.... Attached is the newest NGB ETP Checklist. I couldnt upload the fill-able form, but this will allow you to see that the ETP checklist has been drastically cut back from the previous. My last conversation with my recruiter indicated that NGB has changed their accessions process and now requires ETPs to be complete before swearing in just like the reserves. They also indicated that Age Waivers are now to only take 30 Days as opposed to 6+ months. I received this information early September and my packet was pushed up at the end of the second week of September. I was told that my packet is now…

Hello, I feel ive searched this post pretty thoroughly but cant find an answer to my question. Does the ANG have a requirement that states you can have no more than 5 yrs of commissioned service( any branch) prior to going to UPT. I know AD and the reserves have such a rule refered to as TFSCD and it almost impossible to get a wiaver for . Thanks

So let me start off by saying that I am currently an Active Duty 0-2, and all i want to do is fly. I have close to 4 years in and with another 1.5 years left on my ADSC. 26 yrs old and no medical conditions. I have applied for the 2019 AD UFT board with hopes of getting picked up. During this process, almost all of the pilots whom I work with were telling me about applying to become guard. From what i hear the OPS tempo is much more chill, UPT is less stressful (know what platform already), and the Qweep (additional duties outside of flying) are negligible compared to AD side (Biggest upside according to them). From their advice i am now looking to apply to some units clo…

I recently got an email stating I've been added to an upcoming RCOT class. I thought that was just for incoming medical professionals, and I'm going in as a non-prior sponsored by a Reserve unit to go to UPT. Does anyone have any further information??

I've submitted my application to AD Upt board (I'm a newly minted Capt) already, but today an AFRC Col I didn't know kidnapped me after a meeting and told me he heard I was applying for the AD board and I "must" apply for the AFRC flying unit at my base. I hadn't thought much about going reserves to fly, but he made a pretty damn good argument for it. I have a competitive package with good scores and no waivers. Any wise Greybeard advice on this? I don't have enough flight experience to know what I want to fly, but I love the mission and figured being in a cockpit is the best way to go.

FINALLY was able to physical at MEPS today after fighting medical records/waiver battles for 6 months. 20/20 vision but I failed the depth perception part of the eye exam. Has this happened to anyone else? The AF liaison office at MEPS said that it doesn't really matter until you go for your flight physical, so I'm curious if it is the same test up there or something different. NOTE: this physical was for an AD pilot packet but I'm going to age out soon (turn 29 in January) and I'm not interested in RPA. Basically went through to make sure I was fit to serve, etc. but I'm planning on applying to several guard units in the next couple months. Any info would be …

I’ve been lurking for a while And the site has been extremely useful so I thought I’d role the dice and ask a question. First I’ll give a little background I’m 23 years old with a bachelors degree in business with a 3.65 gpa. I’ve been married a little over a year into an Air Force family and I decided about six months ago that I wanted to join the Air Force. After talking with my father in law I decided to pursue the Air Guard and try to fly. I’ve been talking with a recruiter for my home (nearest) unit for about a month now and I’m getting dates together to take all my tests. I have no flying experience but I’m willing to put in the work I need to to make…

Will be selecting jet platform shortly in the Marines and just thinking long term. Do ANG/AF reserve fighter units care about previous fighter platform much? Wrestling with putting F-35B or Hornets at the top of my selection sheet. Honestly, I think I may want to stay in the Marine Corps for 20, but just curious if I did make the jump if I'd be shooting myself in the foot not trying to get 35's. I would assume that in 8 years there will be many more reserve F-35A squadrons and they would prefer a dude that flew 35-B's. I've also assumed a lot of shit incorrectly in my life so I'm curious of the opinion of anyone in the know.

I was looking to see in anyone on here can help me find any information on MSO vacancies in the RC-26 units. I'm thinking of options outside the C-130 community for nav-type folks. The recent squadron closures in AFRC have really limited opportunities, so it may be time to move on. DMs are welcome, thanks.
