Can’t believe I got in. Upt select. 87 PCSM (w/ PPL) 86 pilot AFOQT INav #1 from my wing. this was my third try to get to UPT. For those who get told they didn’t get it this year, keep trying! It sucks to get told you aren’t good enough but man, when you get there it’s such a feeling!

Crazy/sad story of a Combat Controller just ID’d by the Air Force that unintentionally came out of the back of a 130 into the Gulf of Mexico. Wonder if 5 year-buckets are because some O-4(S) two boards ago were 8APZ... 100% promotion "opportunity" (98% in reality was it?) had some interesting effects.

Thanks for all the replies. This is good stuff. We all love the new jacket. It is comfy, it keeps you dry and warm...overall; it is the best jacket the AF has given me.

I was never bothered too much by the red tape at the aero clubs. I did my instrument rating in a nicely decked out T-41. Most of the aero clubs are 141 approved, meaning you can use your GI bill. Another added bonus was the quality of the instruction. I had a retired O-6 who flew B-47's, T-39's and T-43's. He did his civilian ATP ride shooting approaches into the Johnson ranch with the Boeing. Finished up as the wing commander at Mather. Wally Miller. I can still hear his voice every time I push the thrust levers forward; "Today's the day your engine gonna quit!"

Better yet, teach them to fish: “this jacket cost the government an arm and a leg because it is specially constructed to keep rain, cold air, hot air, fire, and your bullshit use our of time away from my body. I don’t need you to dive into rules in an effort to make/second guess decisions; this is how the jacket is worn. How are your airmen doing today? Can any young’uns benefit from your experience to solve a new problem? Anybody need help with something in their lives other than getting dressed? Is there any stupidity or missing the point that I can help squash for you?” (but really without being a dick)
