Not retirement, promotion. Retirement ceremonies are voluntary, as I well know...

CH

I found the enlisted reg (AFI 36-2503, pg 6), but all it states is...

1.10. When to Have Promotion Ceremonies . Commanders may conduct ceremonies on the last duty

day before the promotion effective date and inform the member that ceremonies do not affect pay, seniority, or entitlements.

I counldn't find anything else in AFI 36-2501, Officer Promotions, just the same bumpf that is on AFPC's web site. Nothing in AFPAM 36-2506, AF Officer Promotion Program.

I've always heard it was voluntary, but finding that in writing is--as you know--not easy.

Good luck!

Cheers! M2

Our two-star's protocol office is across the building from me, so I walked over and asked them. They did not know of any regs that state you have have a ceremony, but htey suggested that if your boss is pushing you to have one, then plan something small to appease him. Sounds like good advice, try to keep it informal with donuts and such. That may not work, but it is worth a try!

Cheers! M2

Well hell, you could tell them to show you the reg where you have to go. I'm guessing that they will have as hard a time finding one that says you have to, as you are finding one that says you don't.

Of course now if your CC gives you a direct order then I'm sure all bets are off.

Here's a spin for you...

When I pinned on from capt to maj, the wing honchos kept pushing for a similar "event"...I also just wanted to wear it to work one day (esp for capt to maj...cmon)...so I told them that the day was indeed very significant to me, and it was "my dream" to pin on in the aircraft (in this case, the back of the helo) as it flew over the base...I asked the wing cmdr if he would do me "the great honor" of pinning me while we were doing "what I lived for," with a flag (on a crewmember's bag!), with him/I saying the oath over intercom...he fell for it...no speech or blues...just some punch in the hangar upon landing...you might try spinning some patiotic, heroic flying kaka, and he might go for it!

^^ Yeah CH, what R-head said. Tell your boss you want to have your ceremony while "doing what you love", just don't mention the midget porn and jumbo tube of KY and he/she just might go for it.

Last time I heard CH was at the hell hole called the Pentagon. I can't imagine him trying to have it in his cubical, although it would be funny.

Congrats on the promotion

Apologize for that confusion, Cheers still!
