Wow the booms are pissy tonight!

So there I was...
Haha after I wrote that I caught it. Nice catch...I guess I have a thing for old nam vets.

So there I was...
All opinions are noted and respected. Especially about saluting a Medal of Honor winner who's a sergeant. I was in the gym (YMCA) chatting with a guy who i found out was a MOH winner in Nam. I immediately saluted him, civilian clothes and all, in the middle of a gym locker room. Brought a tear to his eye. So dont label me a snap because I believe that a LT is a LT. Thats how I was taught. Maybe Im confusing a Guard thing with Active Duty, but in my limited AD experience I was briefed to not salute 1LT's as well. Whatever. Fun conversation but nothing to get emotional about and compare with winners of the Medal of Honor. Side note: I define "Ops community" as those in "Ops." Simple

So there I was...
Are you a pilot? Im sure you are, but just within the OPS community I have seen a different attitude than in the REMF community. I guess as pilots we just dont get worked up about such SNAP things. Im not against saluting, just retarded salutes (as a 2LT saluting a 1LT is)

So there I was...
Guess not. I thought it was common knowledge too!

So there I was...
OK You would "pre-salute" an enlisted guy? That is dorky. No other way to cut it. Also, he implied that he would expect a salute from an 0-1, but wouldn't sweat it if he didn't Not only would I not expect it, I wouldnt like it if an O-1 saluted me. But alas, I dont believe in reflective belts either.

So there I was...
Thats cool. And by "that's cool" I mean "Dork"

Leadership at the 'Deid
A: This isnt about security forces, its about the douches that put on BODY ARMOR in the DEID for a PICTURE. I was just in Baghram and there is maybe a reason to carry body armor and a gun. In the Deid? No reason at all. If an REMF has a picture taken because they are at chow and are required to be armed, so be it. If they are in the Deid and have to get a gun as a prop, thats just gay, retarded, nerdy, faggy, lame, and stupid.

Leadership at the 'Deid
OH MY LORD. Make it all end, please?

Being treated poorly as a student in UPT
Just wanted to pull this statement out and allow others to read it again if they missed it. And I will drop a gentlemanly "so to speak."

Guard/Reserve to Active Duty
Ya, I think you can apply to both. I did, and was ready to leave in one month for AD OTS, but then the Guard unit I am currently in hired me, and I had to give up the OTS slot. I chose the Guard over AD, but had both irons in the fire. Now, that wasnt an easy conversation with the recruiter on Active Duty! But in the end, I made the right decision. In all honesty though, I think its easier to get an AD slot if you stick with it and are qualified. Good luck!

I'm in a dilemna - Pilot or WSO?
Be a WSO. Leave the pilot slot for someone who sees flying the jet as a passion, not a better opportunity for command. It maybe difficult to make it through pilot training with that attitude. IMHO

Air Force Heritage
There are some cool movies from the SAC days, but thats about it.

Military in Uniform at Airport
The Marines and Navy have different rules, i.e. i know in some cases they are allowed to wear their dress uniforms out. I doubt sincerely that this guy fell under one of those catergories, but you never know. I usually just ask him why he is in uniform if its 130am...unless he's just minding his business. I cant say I havent found a quiet bar after a flight and had a beer with a buddy with the flight suit still on. But I made damn sure it was a slow night.

Military in Uniform at Airport
A marine who does 6 months in Iraq IS Billy Badass. Well deserved too, no pilot trainee holds a light up to him

Ever bust a checkride?
Ya thats how mine went immediately after having to go around on my full stop. Didnt offset enough (what a douche) so he took the jet and offset me more, then i broke out of the pattern the wrong way, then I broke out for someone on 90 to initial (which I thought was VFR leg...so I didnt need to break out.) Then I got drug out on a full stop. It was midphase when I was there too...not sure if it changed or not

Ever bust a checkride?
For those that never busted a checkride in UPT: :flipoff: First Contact was a B$tch... wait maybe that was my dick IP that sent me around on my final landing, and it just went to hell from there!
-
It is finished!
Brother! Congrats! I remember chatting with you about this all offline, and it looks like it came through and I am very happy for you! Well earned. I think by those pictures at the Potium, Congress might be the next step;-) Kinz

Blue Angels Crash into neighborhood in SC
"Look, the other five actually keep flying..." I hate news reporters reporting on plane crashes!

Favorite Beer
Stella is horrible unless you are in Manas. Boddingtons rocks. Absolute Favorite: John Smiths.... tied with Caffreys
-
Satellite Radio - xm or sirius?
I agree, although I am keeping my XM, I have also started to notice commercials popping up on "commercial free" stations. So...I may not keep it for long.
-
Bring Back:
Ya just coming back from Manas, we were given guns in a back pack...but they sat by the nav table. So, I guess if we planted it in the desert and lived, or if we were gonna bail out and the boom just spent 5 minutes pulling the chutes up, he could distribute them. So, 10 minutes after the initial "bail out" order, we would be armed and on our way.
-
Bring Back:
Then that calls for a good old fashioned "eat my ass"

Maybe a 2Lt Miss USA?
I wonder if she has to wear the reflective belt during the competition...too bad there isnt a "PT gear" show.

The Jill Metzger thread
I just got back from there, and we are allowed on the same trip she was "kidnapped" from, so, i would assume they know it was fake. Side note, force protection has gotten retarded. There is little threat in Kryzgystan, but we compound ourselves in, and confuse the hell out of the locals as to why. The spanish dudes there have apartments downtown...and we can go out but only in groups and with 4 day notice, no booze, blah blah blah. The truth is its not Force protection, but force discipline. We got there and did our 4 hour welcome brief, and the force protection guy says "I have been here only eight days, and I already smell complacency..." Wow, the whole thing is ridiculous.
