    Aneurysms

Thanks for the reply, I told him if that lady didnt call him back, then either ask to talk to the person in charge of recruiting at that station or just go ot a diferent recruiting station (but made sure he doesnt inadvertently jumpthe chain of command) but yeah, I told him from the thing s I read, and what not a waiver is possible, but it might be a battle to get it, I dont want to get his hopes up then him find out he wont be able to do it. Thanks again, it amazes me how much soem recruiters are just unwilling to work a bit harder for soem people (or maybey they are just uneducated), I know had I nt frequented this board I wouldnt of known he might be able ot get a waiver

    Aneurysms

I am asking for a buddy, he is trying to get into the USCG (OCS) he was told today that he is DQ'ed due to an Aneurysm that he had surgery on 10 years ago when he was 13. After being on this board now for a long time, I have learned not give up hope and there is almost a waiver for anything, so I figured I would ask the people on here that seem to know better, His doctor has said that there is no recurrance and he is able t oremain 100% active to boot he has been scuba diving, and flying so he is not affected by pressure above/below sea level. So I was going to ask what you all think his chances of a waiver would be, if he sent the package with his doctors words of encouragement, as well my father (Lt. Col AF ret.) has offerd to writ a LOR for him if it would benefit him. Here are the regs I have found pertaining to him taken from the medical Maual http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-w/g-wk/wkh/pubs/ Capter 3.D. Page 30 30. Neurologic. a. Cerebrovascular conditions. Current or history of cerebrovascular conditions, including, but not limited to subarachnoid (430) or intracerebral (431) hemorrhage, vascular insufficiency, aneurysm or arteriovenous malformation (437), are disqualifying. Chapter 3.F.Page 8 3) Aneurysms. Aneurysm of any vessel not correctable by surgery and producing limiting symptomatic conditions precluding satisfactory performance of duty. Aneurysm corrected by surgery but with residual limiting symptomatic conditions that preclude satisfactory performance of duty. (a) Satisfactory performance of duty is precluded because of underlying recurring or progressive disease producing pain, dyspnea, or similar symptomatic limiting conditions. 1 Reconstructive surgery including grafts, when prosthetic devices are attached to or implanted in the heart. 2 Unproven procedures have been accomplished and the patient is unable to satisfactorily perform duty or cannot be returned to duty under circumstances permitting close medical supervision. What I gathered from reading this (please correct me if im wrong) that his surgery which completely removed it, wouldnt affect him because it has not resurfaced and his doctor has given him 100% health. I do realize however these are the standards for someoen arleady in not tryign to get in. so here is info on the Waivers. Chapter 3.A. Page 10 8. Waiver of Physical Standards. a. Definition of Waiver. A waiver is an authorization to change a physical standard when an individual does not meet the physical standards prescribed for the purpose of the examination. (1) Normally, a waiver will be granted when it is reasonably expected that the individual will remain fit for duty and the waiver is in the best interests of the Coast Guard. A service member will not be granted a waiver for a physical disability determined to be not fit for duty by a physical evaluation board approved by the Commandant. In these cases, the provisions for retention on active duty contained in the Physical Disability Evaluation System, COMDTINST M1850.2 (series), and the Personnel Manual, COMDTINST M1000.6 (series) apply. Again this is only stuff pertaining to people whom are already on active duty, but I couldnt find much for people who are trying to get in. Could some of the people that are in the know on this board help me out here, is he gonna fight a losing battle, or is a waiver goign to be something possible for him with a bit of a fight? HE just spok to his recruiter and she gave him the runaround (It will be a long and hard process, but I will look it up and call you back) he said she didnt sound very convincing we are betting she will likely not call him back, so any tips for where he should proceed next.. Thanks in advance for the help everyone always is on the boards.
  3. In reading the thread I posted, it appears that according to that legislation, any debts (well not all but most apparently) that you have before entering military service is subject to 6% loan interest, I dunno if im reading that right, but apparently thats not what Toro was talking about so im still confused by this defferment thing as well.. and now some people are giving mixed experiences.. perhaps this should be made into a different thread?
  4. Whoa.. I never knew this how long has that been in effect? Is this what oyu are talking about? http://www.flyingsquadron.com/forums/index...hl=college+loan I did come across a thread I started about 4 years ago that discusses ROTC paying for your School, but this is a little bit different subject
  5. Quick side note, the darker ones are actually uploaded by me, I will be adding a few more in a few days, They asked me to hold off on some until the CD was released
  6. CD came in today sounds great! I found if you click on music down the page a good deal of their songs is available for streaming so you can listen to the tracks (not all) while your waiting for your CD to arrive Hacker did you ever get my PM? I sent it before Baseops changed over to the new Discussion board (back on Dynamic Truth) Let me know, ill go ahead and send another one either way
  7. No just keeping people informed.. Wiseass there are a bunch of Dos Gringos fans on this board, im sure many were awaiting the next release, If it wasn't me letting people know itd be someone else on here
  8. Its now Available, just got a email from the mailing list GO GET IT!!
  9. Just was on the Website, looks like its all done, my guess, it should be any time before it hits the website for sale! From Dosgringosrocks.com
  10. HUGuy, walking around an empty airport must of been an eery feeling, sounds like something in the movie Langoliers. Dstar, im not up to speed on 53 stuff (or most platforms for that matter) whats the importance of 24 liters?
  11. Of course we all know what today is, and we have all answered the question hundreds of times as well as reflected personally on todays events 6 years ago. I dont want to turn this thread into that. I was just curious if any of you were flying CAP's or any other mission that day that could relate the experience, what it felt like being the only ones in the air, having semi-silent radio chatter (if it was). Just was curious
  12. I know for a fact that the USCG uses E's for navs as well
  13. Thanks I though hurricane was only done by reserve, sadly im a long ways off and a lot of luck from ever being close to deciding my next assignment but just figured Id ask thanks!
  14. I was certain this had been discussed before, but my search didn't work (maybe cuz im on a PDA that is quirky sometimes). But just curious, Can a C-130 pilot be transferred to any 130 platform say HC-130? or is the training totally different, given the different mission, or given its not improbable is it an often occuring thing? Thanks just was curious!
  15. Just curious, have you been at that board for a long time or did you start checking it out when I posted the link on here ? Man those are some nice pics
  16. http://scramble.nl/usaf.htm This website also gives you a good idea of what is where, dunno how up to date it is but I used to refer to it alot when I was big into traveling, as I used to make it a point ot stop at every mil base form point A to Point B within reasonable distance
  17. Lt. Protection Association, from what I understand its just all the LT's in a squadron banding together to not get screwed over (to much at least) someone once used an analogy on this board that likened it to joining a gang once your in prison so you don't become someones girlfriend. Someone that knows more will likely chime in.
  18. I got the chance to meet him he was roommates with my JROTC AASI (at the academy), or something, I didnt realize the importance of what was happening before me being in 9th grade so I kept to myself and didn't take the opportunity to talk to him.
  19. I may have you beat.. I was watching the De La Hoya v Mayweather fight last night, at Winghouse (a sot of Hooters knock-off but better food) and I saw 3 guys in army ACU's, The place was a good 40 minute drive from Macdill and it was at around 10, so I wwouldn't venture to guess he had just gotten off work and drove straight there, of course its a possibility
  20. Ok New question on grade calculating.. from my understanding EVERY CLASS EVER TAKEN IS COUNTED (please correct me.. this includes classes failed then retook? now on to calculation.. is it clear cut a A=4 B=3.... so on, or do they do anything different when there is A-, A +
  21. I personally see nothing wrong with people speculating what the cause of the crash is, I haven't read one post on here yet that said to start off "In my expert opinion" Everyones viewpoint is respected, and while the right reason is not always established, we all learn something, Till reading this thread I had extremely limited knowledge of what g-loc was, now im not expert but I know more about it now. I feel the people put their 2 cents in because a comrade of theirs has been lost and the aviation community as a whole hurts for it, perhaps speculation is another way to raise awareness of things ot watch out for... Either way.. Someones life has been lost... I found this picture very moving, figured I would post it here, hopefully no one will object
  22. Miller has a new beer out called the "Chill" it is currently being test marketed in Florida, Texas, California and a few other states here and there. It is brewed with lime and salt taste in it (kind of knock off of the corona and lime). I tried one the other night, it has a different taste, I wont say it tasted bad, but you wont catch me drinking one of these in a public bar. Quite funny Miller has the advertisement for the man law to not fruit the beer then they come out with a beer that has the fruit in it to begin with.
  23. Quick question thought I had seen this, but I searched with now luck, When they look at GPA do they look at your overall GPA or your GPA within your major. Somehow my major courses are a higher GPA then my overall, and I was considering taking some B.S. Easy A classes to boost my GPA.. anyone got any thought on this? This primarily is geared towards OTS Selection, or I plan to go to get my masters and Rejoin ROTC. But I figure either way the question is Valid GPA now is 2.89 likely will drop a bit this semester

    It is finished!

Congratulations man, I dont hear form you as much anymore, if you recall you sent me the SCM like 5 years ago on here, glad t finally came through for you
  25. You mean this one ? lol all the same I will keep all my fingers.. When the money is tight, Ill Grab PBR or Miller High Life Since money usually is tight my beer of choice is Miller Lite (always wondered why they don't spell it Light like everyone else) Favorite all time Beer: Labatt Blue Lite (extremely rare to find in Tampa, FL now) Labatt Blue Yuengling Bourbon Cask Ale (did anyone try this in the winter season? it was amazing!) As far as Fat tire only time I had it was in Vegas for free at the casinos, I thought it was pretty good myself Worst Beers: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, for some reason it just tastes off to me I've given it a few chances Guinness, only way I can thoroughly enjoy this beer is doing a car bomb (thats a shot of Jameson's and Baileys dropped in a pint and chugged for those not in the know) Thats all I got to say, I'm very open to expanding my Alcohol horizons all the time willing to try a new beer that is recommended (just tried Tecate for the first time last night wasn't disappointed), I frequent this bar called Old Chicago, where they pride themselves on their variety of beer, and they have this World beer tour where every different beer you have counts as a point and you get prizes along the way and stuff its cheesy but its marketing genius!
