How the Swedes have Fun
Something about this seems like a very bad idea. Although I guess the jetwash would keep you warm.

2011 BAH Rates
Affirm. At least we have a few months until the move so we're thinking we'll build. It will actually be cheaper than buying one of the inflated established properties.

2011 BAH Rates
So, the new BAH rates for 2011 came out (STS) today. I'm moving to Clovis in a few months and guess what, the BAH for my paygrade dropped by $70 from CY10-CY11. The strange thing about that is house prices in Clovis have skyrocketed since the AFSOC takeover (almost double vs a few years ago in Clovis). So a similar house in Clovis to the one I'm in will cost $500 more per month than the one I'm currently in and I'm going to lose $300 per month in BAH. :bash:

I Hate Reflective Belts
At least they went with the belts instead of the diapers. They could have decided on that option so people would think about alcohol awareness and were not going "toilet" it happen again...

Ammo against the shoe clerks!
Shoe clerk buffoonery today. So the base we're at has a room at the gym with a play area for kids and workout stuff for their parents. My wife took our kids to the gym to play while she worked on the equipment. Our youngest slept in her carseat by my wife while the others played in the play area. Partway through my wife's workout, a female in a services shirt confronted her. She told my wife that kids have to be one year old and walking to be allowed on the premises of the gym. My wife was told to collect the children and leave immediately. When she asked about it, the shoe gave the classic answer "It's in the AFI, do I need to show you?" At this point, my wife walked away and left quietly. Not sure if we're going to take this anywhere, but it sucks to be denied access to excellent facilities due to some presumed rule (or interpretation) when she was the only one working out in the kids room and there was zero safety threat.

AAFES Car Sales
Same downrange as at overseas bases. Generally not very good deals on cars/trucks. Great deals on Harley's, but you've got to buy a year-end closeout for the best prices. "2" on the BMW military sales program. Mercedes and Porsche also have excellent military sales programs. Expect a 10-13% discount off MSRP with no sales tax. Beware though, when you get back to the states, some states make you pay state tax to register .

Gun Talk
Most of the ammo I purchase ends up being an empty shell of my initial investment by the time I'm done with it.

Gun Talk
So all this talk about DIY AR's got me looking, and I don't get it. Looking at the pricing for parts, I can't find much of a price advantage over purchasing a pre-built gun. They both appear to be in the $850-$1100 range. Is there a compelling reason to build your own? Being such a simple gun, is it much different than stripping and reassembling an existing weapon?

Gun Talk
OK, so I'm faced with temptation. I don't really need a new hunting rifle and I don't really need a 7mm. But, I stumbled across a pretty good deal at the local walmart this morning. The have a Remington 700SPS 7mm, scoped, on clearance for $357 before the $100 mail-in rebate for $257 total. It seems like a very good deal, and I've heard lots of good things about the 700. Like I said, I'm tempted.

Details on fired WG/CC from Hanscom
So, does a wg/cc need to tell the 3-STAR about every little disciplinary issue he handles? Being a DD checks without crossing boundaries, especially if she was on his staff. Issuing a DP with an ongoing inquiry checks since it (probably) matches the records on file. AF times seems to be hyping relative non-issues. As written, sounds like an issue of a 3-star being mad that he signed a DP without having every nitty gritty up to the minute detail. CAVEAT: Bosses can do what they want, and there's probably much more to this than what was published.
