  1. Great! So what we can expect is another debacle like the 2011 VSP where 900 something people applied (over half of them rated) only to be told no. I know you said A1 doesn't exactly know where the cuts can come from yet, but wouldn't it have made more sense to figure that out prior to releasing any sort of info? People take a huge leap of faith that leadership won't hold it against them if they attempt to take VSP or TERA. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out that way as I've seen several who no longer get pushed because they aren't "team players".
  2. Here's another way to look at it. Convert TAFMS to a number, but only full months count. For example, 15 years 7 months would be 15.58333 (repeating of course). Recommend using this: Basic pay x 12 x TAFMS x 10% x 1.25 = final VSP Monthly Basic Pay x 12 months = $W $W x Airman’s TAFMS (yrs/mths of svc) = $X $X x 10% (full separation pay) = $Y $Y x 1.25 multiplier = $Z (final voluntary separation pay) -or- 10% x 1.25 x 12 mths x basic pay x TAFMS = final VSP 10% (full separation pay) x 1.25 multiplier = W W x 12 mths = X X x monthly basic pay = $Y $Y x TAFMS (yrs/mths of svc) = $Z (final voluntary separation pay)
  3. PSDM 13-130 if you have access. I didn't see FOUO anywhere, so here you go. From the RIF slides: ELIGIBILITY: Captains in 2005 through 2008 year groups; Majors in 1997 through 1999 and 2001 through 2003 year groups; LAF-J Majors with DOR 1 May 2010 through 30 Sep 2013 In specified AFSCs and competitive categories See applicable matrix at FM website (link on summary slide) Officers with less than 6 yrs TAFCS or 18 yrs or more TAFMS as mandatory separation date are ineligible On promotion list prior to 16 Jun 14 are ineligible Less than 1 year TIG as of 31 Jan 15 are ineligible Approved DOS after 31 Jan 15 remain eligible for RIF GENERAL GUIDANCE: Mandatory DOS is 31 Jan 15 Commanders will complete Retention Recommendation Forms on all officers meeting the board Unearned portions of education assistance funds, special pay or bonuses will not be recouped for officers not retained If not electing to apply for VSP or TERA, Officers with 6 yrs, but less than 20 yrs TAFMS are authorized full separation pay Officers with 180 days or more AD are authorized TAP benefits Refer to PSDM for complete criteria and procedural guidance From the VSP slides: ELIGIBILITY: Officers eligible to meet the RIF Board Officers w/ 6 or more yrs and less than 15 yrs of service as of 31 Jan 15 Application period is 14 Jan to 1 May 14 Mandatory separation date is 29 Sep 14; officers reaching 6-yr minimum requirement between 30 Sep 14 – 31 Jan 15 will be given DOS to match the 6-yr date VSP is 1.25X full separation pay rate (see PSDM for full explanation on how pay is calculated) This is not a “first in/first served” program NOTE FROM THE ACTUAL PSDM: TERA-eligible officers who choose to apply for VSP in lieu of TERA must sign the acknowledgement at the bottom of the Individual Ready Reserve/Statement of Understanding
  4. Just found this gem in the TERA PSDM: Senior Developmental Education/Intermediate Developmental Education (SDE/IDE) or equivalents (see Note 4) 4. ADSCs for Developmental Education, AFIT Advanced Academic Degree, AF-sponsored civilian education, and Advanced Pilot Training are not being waived. EXCEPTION: A waiver for 1 year of the ADSC for SDE/IDE (or equivalents) for officers eligible IAW this PSDM. So...they are now lumping UPT in with SDE/IDE or equivalents and will waive the ADSC up to a year? Am I reading that right?
  5. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but to be eligible to apply for VSP, you have to be facing the RIF board. The guidance states that you have to have one year TIG to face the RIF board. The timeline slide shows the projected board to be in Jun/Jul, so a majority of the '03 year group will be ineligible due to the fact that it took forever to pin them on.
  6. That was my thought as well, and to me is dumb. How many people are on the VML and don't get assignments? Several that I know of.
  7. If it is like the TERA program, if you have an approved date of separation, you will not be eligible to apply. These programs are to get out people who have not already expressed their desire to separate. Sidebar: Does anyone know what exactly the "Under assignment consideration" means with regards to being ineligible?
  8. From what I remember for the 06-07 VSP, it was first come, first serve with blanket approval up to certain end strengths. People were notified as soon as their application was approved. For the 2011 VSP, I don't recall them notifying anyone until after the program close date and they changed their tune to only allow individuals with less than 6 months remaining on an ADSC get out. This is from this year's Q&A: Q2. Isn’t VSP granted first-come, first-served to eligible officers who apply for it? A2. No. RIF eligible officers are not entitled to receive VSP based solely on submitting an application. According to OSD policy, VSP is used to minimize involuntary separations and to shape the force. The OSD policy stipulates that all VSP applications be reviewed and only those meeting the needs of the Military Service be approved. Q5. Will VSP applicant records be thoroughly reviewed before making an approval/disapproval decision? A5. No. The VSP process does not include an assessment of the quality of an officer's record. This will be the purview of the RIF board. The VSP application review process is strictly administrative, focusing on AFSC experience as well as active duty service commitment length and reason.
  9. And of course no one knows when that will be available. I have a feeling we are about to be sorely disappointed.
  10. Anyone got eyes on PSDM 13-128? Apparently it's the Officer TERA PSDM.
  11. Can't speak to anything outside of the Herk world, but 2-6 years remaining on an ADSC and it's probably not gonna happen. The reg says to be eligible for PC, one has to have served 2/3 of their initial ADSC. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean they have to approve it though. I know someone who applied with a projected separation date just under a year and a half remaining and was denied. They waited 120 days, reapplied with a requested separation date just under a year remaining and was subsequently approved. Timing and luck...
  12. Haven't been eligible for a while. Still eligible for standard Palace Chase at 3:1. Capt Crunch's boss.
  13. This is my surprised face. Not trying to be a dick, but did you really think you would get released 3 years early? In recent times I haven't seen a single Herk pilot or nav get PC approval outside of year remaining. Even saw a nav who tried to PC TWICE get denied both times, only to get paid to leave during the 2011 VSP because she had less than 6 months on her ADSC. This is someone who was planning and actively trying to get out of the Air Force. Totally expect more of the same in the next couple of months (assuming rated are eligible for the force shaping programs). Well hell then, let's let all the Legacy pilots PC with half their commitment remaining. Yes, they are phasing out the Legacy, but it isn't going to happen overnight.
  14. So I was looking at the guidance published back in Aug regarding TERA and found this under the ineligible category: e. Under assignment consideration or selected for assignment prior submission of the retirement eligibility request. So...if you are on the VML, you are automatically ineligible?
  15. Yup. This is the only thing I could find in summaries about military retirement being targeted. Annual adjustment of retired pay and retainer pay amounts for retired members of theArmed Forces under age 62 This provision modifies the annual cost-of-living adjustment for working-age military retirees by making the adjustments equal to inflation minus one percent. This change would be gradually phased in, with no change for the current year, a 0.25 percent decrease in December 2014, and a 0.5 percent decrease in December 2015. This would not affect service members who retired because of disability or injury. Service members would never see a reduction in benefits from one year to the next
  16. Here's a start. These kids are not going to have to pay back their ROTC scholarships if released. Wow. http://www.af.mil/News/ArticleDisplay/tabid/223/Article/467645/rotc-cadets-irr-graduates-eligible-for-release.aspx ROTC cadets, IRR graduates eligible for release JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO -- RANDOLPH, Texas -- Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets slated to graduate in 2014 and recently commissioned graduates in the Individual Ready Reserve waiting to enter active duty may be eligible for release from their military service commitment, Air Force officials said Dec. 3. Cadets and recent graduates classified into the following fields may apply: 13M Airfield Operations 13N Nuclear and Missile Operations 14N Intelligence 17D Cyberspace Operations 21A Aircraft Maintenance 21M Munitions and Missile Maintenance 21R - Logistics Readiness 31P Security Forces 35P Public Affairs 38P Personnel 63A Acquisition 64P Contracting “The decision to offer voluntary release from ROTC-incurred commitments is part of the effort to align our policies and programs to a future force that is projected to be smaller and leaner,” said Lt. Col. Jonelle Eychner, chief of officer accessions and training. Although ROTC applicants approved for the program will no longer receive their monthly stipend beginning March 1, the Air Force will not seek scholarship or stipend recoupment in exchange for release from their service commitment. The Air Force is also encouraging the recent ROTC graduates who are waiting to enter active duty in the skills listed above to look instead for Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve opportunities to associate in a variety of skills. ROTC is not the only officer accessions program affected. “We have also reduced officer training school where possible to ease the impact on ROTC,” Eychner explained. “But we can’t cut any deeper into OTS production without harming our ability to fill specific technical career fields.” Eligible cadets and IRR officers can apply for release Jan. 6-24, 2014. Applicants will be notified of their request status, and on Feb. 28 approved officers will be officially separated from service and approved cadets will be disenrolled from ROTC without any further obligations. Interested cadets should contact their ROTC detachment for eligibility and application information. Interested IRR officers should contact the AFPC Accessions office at (210) 565-2275
  17. Another VSP that won't allow rated folks the "opportunity" to get out. I'm so excited. Some would even say that I just can't hide it.
  18. Right...because the majority of the Air Force jumps out of planes. "Do shit the AF does" = recruiting people that won't know their own regs, thereby forcing more work upon aircrew, are stupid & lazy, and know there are no repercussions for ing things up? I don't think the AF needs to jump into football games to acquire that kind of talent.
  19. It was his grandfather that was the Korean Ace. Nick was a hell of a dude and it's hard to believe it's been almost 12 years since he passed.
