  1. The transition from being one of the defenders to being one of the defended is not easy but it eventually gets easier...or so I hear.

I'm sure posting 69 times a day with all the young guys pissing and moaning about reflective belts and masters makes the transition much easier.

    [/sarcasm]

  2. She needs to get over herself, she ain't hot.

I really hope the employer comes out and says "I was just trying to be nice. The real reason I fired her is because she was terrible at her job".

  3. Regarding the newest Dear Boss letter, whatever effect it had has been diminished to almost zero. Nobody cares anymore that you hate the CSAF or senior leadership. At least, in 1974, it was about as new and shocking as nailing a list of demands to a cathedral door and starting a new religion. Now, 3 letters later, it just looks like the most recent petulant whine-session from some random privileged Air Force fighter pilot who didn't get enough mints on his pillow last night. Well, that's the perception anyway.

Perceptually, this is right on. And perception is reality.

I think every community has been getting driven into the ground. Look at the TDY rates for MAF bubbas and they're gone like 250+ days a year. AFSOC is gone all the time. But (once again with the perception thing), they aren't putting out these letters and perpetuating the whiny, kid in the corner stomping his feet stereotype that fighter guys are doing.

I know that wasn't the authors intent, but it's how people are viewing it. I (personally) know we need more dedicated air superiority assets. We need more money/better training for evolving threats at the tactical level. There's a myriad of things we need to maintain the level of dominance we've had in the past, but the biggest threat we have is budgetary issues. And the nearest rock for the budget folks is their constituency demanding to see a black number instead of a red one at the bottom of the sheet - combat capability be damned.

  4. Maybe you could utilize "supercruise" to get back faster.

Guess this plane won't be going anywhere soon - just read that all F-22 flights need to be in proximity of a landing strip and the AK alert is going to revert back to F-15's and F-16's.

Good thing there are now exactly three AD F-15C squadrons. Sometimes I feel like I am taking crazy pills.

Kadena Eagles are sitting alert for the Raptors as we speak.

  5. I remember several North Dakota schools at a high school wrestling tournament named the "Demons", "Red Devils", "Devils", "Black Devils", and my personal favorite, the "Devils Lake Satans". But ND is the first circle of hell anyway, so it all made sense.

  6. [stupid question]

The T-6 uses an OBOGS and hasn't had any issues with it as far as hypoxia, coughing, etc. Is the Raptor problem actually related to the system itself or is it the fact that they spend most of their time in the stratosphere that the system just can't handle it? In other words, hypothetically if they put the T-6 system on the Raptor, would they still have issues due to the altitude?

    [/stupid question]

Like Brabus said, similar names but different systems. Many airplanes use OBOGS type systems now, but exchanging them 1 for 1 isn't really doable. I suspect (as with everything on the Raptor), the cost of revamping over to LOX or to a different OBOGS or anything like that would be astronomical.

  7. Site:https://vimeo.com/m/40935850

This video was created to commemorate the 67FS winning the 2011 Raytheon Trophy for outstanding aerial achievement, given to the top air-to-air squadron in the USAF.

The footage was shot over 1 year of flying with a Sony HD Handycam and GOPRO Hero. The footage was shot entirely by pilots, no combat camera personnel were used. The video was edited with Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD over 2 weeks by Jersey. Footage includes flying and aircraft from both the 67FS "Fighting Cocks" and the 44FS "Vampire Bats", entirely on location at Kadena AB, Japan. Most of the over water footage was filmed while we were raging like demons from hell in the skies over the pacific ocean like our brothers did 70 years before us.

    Credits.

-All Tower footage filmed by Jersey

-Unrestricted Climb ground view camera: Wreck and Switch

    -Backseat Unrestricted climb pilot: Egg

    -GO Pro captains: Blue, Hozen,Egg

Surprised the Egg's were able to get away from the corn and coffee long enough to contribute. Good on 'em!

  8. Though I wish that were the case,... we have armed guards and line badges to get near the aircraft.

Getting near the crews? Not such a big deal. Yeah, yeah... that's not a great analogy.

But we've got plenty of SF troops out there that might be required to take a bullet to keep the "asset" safe.

Their life, while valuable, is considered ok to put at risk to preserve the asset.

    And try this litmus test:

Go crash four F-22's in a week with four successful ejections.

The following week, have four F-22 Captains killed in separate off-duty accidents.

Which one will have Congress' attention?

    Valid points.

  9. Well you probably should.

    1. These are national assets, and vital to our national interests.

    2. They cost a ton of money... something we don't have much anymore as a nation.

    These are not disposable resources.

The crews flying them are irreplaceable national assests. You can go to DM, knock the cob webs out of an old Lawn Dart/Strike Eagle/whatever, and have a new jet on the ramp in about a week. (I realize I'm trivializing the process of replacing jets, but I know you get the point).

  10. I think he's asking if someone has seen "combat" merely because they themselves have been endangered, or if the danger/risk must also involve others, (friendlies, enemies).

By that definition, I've seen plenty of combat driving on and off of Maxwell during PME.

(Just being a smart ass, I'm interested to see some replies here)
