  1. I was a full timer for 2 years and can agree with Gazmo. If your doing your job at the squadron there’s little time at work to commit to propaganda. Your to busy taking care of TR’s and being your own HR rep, scheduler, orders clerk, accountant, etc etc etc. A thought... Limit the people that write PME curriculum to 2 weeks. Online AND in residence. Waive it completely if someone has obtained a masters level degree/course in a subject mater that benefits the AF. For the love of Pete, use a freaking website that is a one stop shop for a course and remove bottlenecks that prevent students from advancing bc an instructor hasn’t taken the time to review comments and allow progression. Force focus at AU university by limiting their budget and use that money where it is more beneficial like say oh I don’t know? Perhaps fix dts I don’t know pick any one of the many broken systems floating around
  2. We need a guard reserve union. I’ll bet ALPA would bite. (joke)
  3. That’s where I’m at as well Gazmo. Why break your neck. I’ve got a feeling guard reserve squadron leadership is going to plummet the next 5 years
  4. Didn't see a dedicated thread so... here we go. Anyone have insight if this requirement is going to survive the pilot crisis? Anyone want to start a movement for the ARC (guard & reserve) to have their own course that actually functions online via one website and is relevant to TR's that have other jobs? Anyone know anyone that said screw it and left because it's easier to do that than force feeding BS? Cheers
  5. Don’t get Bose go with lightspeed Zulu they have a mil version you’ll be happy you did get all the bells and whistles
  6. If things stay as they are... you're not going to have any problem finding Civ flying work. Just keep your finger out of your nose when you interview and you'll be fine. I wouldn't commit to any long term ART or AGR right now until you have a seniority number. There will be plenty of flying at all squadrons. Talk around to the guys that are working civ jobs in your squadron I'm sure you'll here something similar. To all you new Upt hires... look at what's going on around you and learn. The guard reserve has HEMORRHAGED pilots the last three yrs. And what is AFRCs solution...? Improve quality of life? Try and make things better for aircrew? Nope they try and force people into the jobs that hundreds have just left... NO ONE is fighting to stay in ART jobs. Everyone's fighting to leave. It's never just one reason there is a push/pull theory at play here. The majors have got it figured out, and they have been pulling hard bc they know the game. The toxicity of our command is heart breaking. We are plagued with "leadership" who has had the luxury of a downturned pilot market and has commanded whatever they wished and people would stay. Now there are options and they don't know how to react bc this is an environment that current leadership has never known... until now. They had better learn quickly the doors open and people are walking towards it.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. It would be nice to know these difficult examiners by name. Remember YOU can pick your examiner. YOU are hiring this guy to that has been appointed by the FAA. You should never let any flight school or instructor tell you who you are going to check with. If you're not comfortable with the examiner you should make that known. You are paying way to much money to fly with someone who doesn't have your best interest at heart. Ideally you need to research before hand who will be your check pilot, and set it up before going to any of these ATP schools. If the guy you want isn't available move the date to when he is. Don't waste your time and money on anything less. There is a check guy at kgky and kads that all atps is using right now that people are having problems with. I'll see if I can get their names.
  8. Longer life for the U-2? Gives me hope for a chance still. Anyone heard any rumors on recruiting forecasts?
  9. Not hard at all, especially if you work for a defense oriented company like WH said. I know a couple guard and reserve guys who are doing what your talking about. Some even fly for their civilian job because their engineering background was desired so they could "communicate" better with engineers and got to be involved in both aspects. Good pick with the engineering degree!
  10. I heard a rumor that the board has been pushed back to January?
  11. So you think that once the 65ers create the mass hiring it will force the guard/reserve to revert back to the culture they had 10yrs ago?
  12. Not that this is an answer to your question but something worth brining up if you take this to court. I know a guy who used to got out of a few speeding tickets because the cop could not give evidence that he was current and certified to use the radar that was used to determine he was speeding. Without current qual I've heard its pretty easy to shoot holes in their claims. Who knows something else that could help you build your case.
  13. Watch out for user fees GA... they're around the corner.
  14. Dear DOD/Air Force Stop trying to reinvent the freaking wheel! There's only one plane for the job..
  15. Color me skeptical... Boeing is the winner for now.
  16. Second question, can a reservist volunteer for the U-28/M-28/Dash-8 program? Cheers.
  17. $0.02 Nothing happens quickly in the Air Force. The sooner you adapt to that the easier things are. Stay on top of things though. Get use to the hurry up and wait mentality, it will serve you well as a pilot. Enjoy where you are now and spend time with loved ones while you can. Hired- March 09 Brooks- July 09 AFRC board- Sept 09 OTS- March 10 IFS- Jul 10 UPT- Sept 10
  18. I tend to disagree. For what it's worth coming from someone who's flown their ass off the past three years in the civilian world I would recomend that you take the time and log it. I know it's not much especially when you compare it with what you will potiential log through your career, but you never know what might happen (DQ) and that little bit of turbine PIC could make a difference later on. I know plenty of people right now that would love to have 100 hrs turbine PIC. Plus it will be cool to one day look back and remember when you were flying the t6 where you went who you were with how bad you screwed up etc. etc. edit for quote
  19. Congratulations at your alternate selection. That is something to be proud of and is an indicator that you have what it takes to get hired. I can't give you a percentage but what I can tell you is that I have been going through the process for about two years now and have known two people personally who have been DQ'd for medical reasons. What you can do is maintain a positive relationship with your POC and track the selectees progress. I would venture to say that if he makes it through Brooks then its a pretty good chance that you will not be in for this time around. I know the spot your in and unfortunately there's nothing else you can really do but wait and see. Just remember that there is a reason that units pick an alternate. I would highly recommend that you continue to apply and interview and not throw all your eggs in the alternate basket. Good Luck
  20. Check I don't think the army guard hires nonpriors off the street into WOFT slots, if you have prior service they can. However the army reserve does hire off the street for WOFT. The reason they keep telling you to enlist is b/c your talking to a recruiter. Anytime you call a army guard unit they're going to keep refering you to their unit recruiter. Your best bet is to show up on the doorstep during a drill weekend and try to find the person in charge of hiring. He/she should be an officer. They're great people and if you tell them what your trying to do they'll help you out.
  21. If they won't go back to the pink and greens and least go to a blue coat and a pink (or kaki) pants. That would look good.
  22. Ok I got one. This is a civilian story but puke is involved none the less. About four years ago when I was still building time I would on occasion ride with a buddy who had a part time job flying a corporate baron. This particular night he was tasked with picking up one of the bosses and bosses buddy and taking them from LIT to home in northwest AR. After playing the waiting game for these two guys to show up they finally come stumbling through the doors about thrity minutes late (which is actually not that bad for corporate). Note that I said stumbling not walking. This was a friday night and the duo had hit been out for a night out on the town and by all looks had had a pretty good time. One guy in particular was well... sloshed and literally had to be led/carried to the plane. As the other two were preparing his seat I stood by him as he swayed in the 4 kt crosswind that night and asked him, "Dude are you going to be ok? Your not going to puke are you?" To which he responded. "YeshImFruckinFin. ImshNaGoangFruginPUk" I looked at my buddy who looked a little frustrated at the fact that I had just asked his employer such an insulting and stupid question. But damn it I knew this was a bad situation and had the potential to get worse. As we crossed the hold short line to depart my buddy the corporate pilot who I will now refer to as Captain Stupid turned back to the drunk duo and shouted, "Hey you guys wanna see a high performance take off?!" Both responded with jubilant whoops of joy while I informed Captain Stupid of his new name and how I thought that was a bad idea. So here we go rolling down the runway the wheels come off, he keeps the plane low sucks up the gear and as we pass the end of the threshold cranks it up to about a 45 degree climb and holds it until about 1500 agl and goes back to normal climb. About thirty seconds after going back to a normal climb captain stupid turns to me and asks, "Do you smell apples?" Unfortunately I did and as he hit the cabin light I turned back and saw that the really drunk dude had ralphed all of his dinner plus however many apple martinis that evening had resulted in. Kudos to that guy though because he managed to keep it all on his chest and lap. Only one little spot made it onto the carpet. I have never seen someone keep puke that neat before. The only reason that I can imagine he was able to keep everything so tidy was that when captain stupid cranked back the yoke that the G forces pinned his head into his chest so everything just kinda stayed right there. The rest of that flight not as drunk guy kept coming to the front and asking how much longer every ten minutes of the hour flight. It was like having a kid in the back seat... are we there yet?
  23. Ginger, dude your way off. We're talking about manned platfroms.
  24. That is actually a pretty good idea. I think a corsair wing fold might be easier. I don't know I'm not an engineer. But while were dreaming lets make it so that they can deploy from a transport while in flight open the back door and all of the sudden you have a swarm of attack planes pouring out the back.
