A buddy pointed out, rightly, that running into a Pred is probably the highest risk of combat aviation right now.
So far we haven't had anyone killed in combat aviation by running into a pred, but we've had numberous guys killed for other reasons. So you and your buddy are 100% wrong.
I appreciate and agree with about 90% of your overall points. However, I take issue with your analysis of my job and the risks associated with it. I can see you've thought this through, but the weakest part of your case is your huge assumptions about flying manned aircraft in theater. So as sharp as you are, when you start making broad points based on assumptions you look like a clown. A clown who can't understand brevity. I recommend cutting the 'my drive home fromt he office is as risky as your flight in theater' aspect from your overall argument if you want to be taken seriously.

That's a good point...could we share some of that academic benefit with the rest of the class? For example, could you cover some of the benefits they gained from an open and frank discussion of nuking Mecca and starving civilian populations on the basis of their religion?
We should be free to discuss anything within the confine of an academic setting, using logic and reason to decide the merits of various COAs. Even disproving an absurd idea using reason without emotion is a valuable exercise. It teaches people to consider what they hear, challenge their own assumptions, and ultimately strengthens our resolve. Political correctness is the anathema of learning. If you really want to teach problem solving and outside the box thinking, you must first teach people to be comfortable hearing any possible suggestion, no matter how absurd. Hopefully that explains to you the benefits gained from an open and frank discussion about any subject.

What the airplane can do is irrelevant if the crew isn't allowed and isn't trained. That totally depends on the situation though. My airplane is certified and verified to fly at 1mm above the ground in the instant right after takeoff and right before landing.
You ever fly with a dude trained to operate that aircraft at 1mm AGL? Then no.So is that my minimum altitude if I wanna do a flyby for some Army dudes?
I've seen -15E's & Hogs do some wild LL passes for show of force/de-escalation events. Surely you've seen something similar in OEF? Granted this -64 dude appears to just be showing off, but I'm always willing to give a dude the benefit of the doubt and a single video NEVER tells he whole story.even if you're allowed to fly low or high or fast or slow or whatever, it should be done for a mission-related reason. I've yet to hear of a mission that involves showing off max performance aircraft capes at random to dudes on the ground in some kind of seat of your pants airshow.

Good discussion. I personally have never called crew rest, but I did allow myself to be pressured into flying an FCF after a full day of flying. I nearly crashed the plane from fatigue. It was a scary moment for me, and a huge professional wake up call that I have limitis just like everyone else. I don't mean that to sound arrogant, but I'm sure you've all had a bubble bursting moment. Anyway, long story short- I've never called crew rest but I certainly should have. So learn from my mistake and accept some heat from the office trolls before putting yourself in a dangerous situation for no good damn reason.

100% legit.

More details will be released soon, waiting for a few more pieces first.

Turns out the folks in the sheep-beating video may be Air Force folks: http://www.foxnews.c...test=latestnews
And the hits just keep on coming...
I foresee an animal cruelty CBT in our future......

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy these two were finally rescued, but don't put any more thought into this than the timing was very politically driven. If the US AFRICOM could pull their heads from their anal orifices, these two would have been rescued a LONG time ago. Election year State of the Union address at the same time as a HOA hostage rescue? ALR just went up. Bottom Line: the US government took advantage of a situation in which the country is very lucky the hostages are still alive after this long.
You're an idiot and have no idea what you are talking about. AFRICOM had nothing to do with the delay. Kudos to all who were involved in this difficult operation. "The deed is all, not the glory."

Business is good
Yup, business has been booming in EA recently.

You mentioned COIN. That shit is over. We need to kill what we can and leave.
Tangent to all the cock talk, but bout time someone spoke the truth. COIN is impossible for our nation. All this talk about deploying forever to build schools... not only is a sustained 80 year strategy impossible for a democracy, but there's no proof it even works. Would I stop fighting if someone invaded our country & tried to force a new way of life just because they brought candy for my kids? Would I sell out my cause because the enemy played soccer with my cousin? This enemy will stop fighting the same way I'll stop fighting- when we're dead.
The reality is that we're leaving OEF within the next 18-24 months. Gone. Just like Iraq. So let's do the only thing that might be worthwhile in the short time left: kill as many of these cavemen as possible.

Another lesson that bears repeating: don't take pictures. Even if you aren't pissing on EKIA (which even Marines in combat should know is unacceptable to their leadership), there's things we've all done that we'd rather not need to explain.

Dri-fire vs the A2CU, both can be had in Multi-cam
Copy. I have one of each. Still think my ABU 2 piece is lighter/softer.
-
This is one of those times that you couldn't make it up... this is what the dude's bio actually said..
This just got a lot funnier.
-
Just curious why you want the multi-cam. I've got 2 and don't like it. Fabric is heavier than the ABU 2 piece, which is what I prefer to wear down range.

Thanks for posting that. Interesting they went w/ the Super T, the USN had been flying them but decided not to buy for operational usage and went with OV-10's. Wonder what the behind the scenes reasoning was.
-
There are a huge # of spare parts for the OV-10D & this aircraft will have some awesome mod's.
-
Too bad, the AF is missing out. The USN is very excited about their upcoming OV-10's.

It is worth it.
I'm sure it is in the CAF. I know it is in SOF. But I didn't think it was in the MAF.

Yup, he's been a worthless and uninspirational CSAF. I've seen him speak as well, he's articulate but his answers will often contradict each other; I'd rather he sound less polished but at least make sense. BL, at the very top we have no direction or vision or leadership, just a yes man.

Copy, you're against people being recognized soley on the basis of their job performance, and favor instead of whole person concept. Problem is, that route ALWAYS leads to awards for the guy who is ok at his job but has checked all the required boxes while the few who study and practice to be great at their jobs are overlooked. That is ALWAYS the outcome. Sometimes the rockstars get noticed, the few who get a degree from Harvard while also being superstars at their job. These guys are few.
How about we send a message to our airmen that job performance counts? After all, what good is education unless it leads to individuals being better at their jobs?

Well, this is a useful discussion.
It could be; serious question, do you think the rationale for not using the F-22 in Libya was valid?

10 year old in trouble for waving gun shaped pizza slice: http://www.wkrn.com/story/16325409/gun-shaped-pizza-slice
My fovorite quote from article "Taylor said the school system has made it clear that if her son eats his pizza into the shape of a gun again and there is a similar occurrence, he will be suspended." What a herd of pussies.

Risk aversion is telling the Army that landing a Herk on a dirt LZ in Iraq is "too risky" despite the fact they have dudes running IED-laden roads every day to do stuff we could have been doing in that theater.
Quick thread derail- I'm glad you mentioned this Huey, I will never forget the cowardice from AMC on this issue. As a -130 IP w/5 deployments to Iraq when I directly questioned the AMC/CC on this subject, I can tell you cowardice at every level of mobility leadership is the only reason we risked convoys into FOBs instead of flying into Taji or the rest at the height of war in 05-07. And literally hundreds of Soldiers and Marines died as a result. I enjoyed AMC, the slick -130 and all the TDYs; but this issue is the reason I left that career and started over in SOF.
