  1. great info thanks!

can i set an official date of seperation (end of my ADSC this december)? Would that even do anything?

not against deploying, but def against deploying for a non flying gig to be a power point useless ranger.

That’s probably your best shot. If I recall, the reg says they have to have you home around 30-60 days before your final out (don’t quote me). I would stockpile leave and also use terminal leave to fence you in even more. I believe you can apply for separation up to 1 year out.

  2. My Guard unit is always looking for guest help to sit alert. Title 10 orders, full AD pay, BAH, BAS, etc... 10 days work/20 days off per 30 day orders, full per diem, lodging paid for, TAMP 180, not to mention time off of your guard retirement age. My plan is to keep doing this off and on and get an Active Duty retirement while still keeping my line number at the airlines. Best of all worlds.

  3. Sure, as of recently, the T-38 track was designed to produce the standard legacy wingman in attitude and aptitude. Tons of tac form, how to take direction as 2 some blatantly outdated things like a bunch of formation landings. The avg standard was based on setting the foundation for a basic F-16/F-15C wingman.

We need to shift our training on the fighter side towards the “cough” 5th gen wingman mentality.

Unfortunately the T-38 really can’t do a lot to prepare kids to fly jets like the F-35. I’d say airmanship, the basics of handling/tac form, form approaches are valid but there’s no reason to spend 20 flights focusing on tac turns.

UPT next has shown that we can put the “right” people in fighters with a fraction of the training vs legacy UPT and they can excel.

Of course kids going to legacy fighters might need some prep but those skills can be focused on in IFF tracks and polished in the B-course.

I say cut the syllabus, place more focus on specialization during IFF to meet the needs of VASTLY different skill sets required in the spectrum of current fighter aircraft inventory.

Honest question, because I got out of the UPT IP world about the time they were selecting the initial cadre, but has UPT Next been that much of a resounding success?

  4. "Fired Air Force Academy Commandant Plans to File Complaint:"
"The former commandant of cadets at the  Air Force Academy intends to file an Article 138 redress of wrongs complaint under the Uniform Code of Military Justice in coming weeks to remedy her removal from the position, according to her lawyer."
"The IG noted that between June 2017 and November 2018, six out of 19 trips that Goodwin took had instances of improper use of taxpayer dollars while renting cars or booking airfare, and included layovers or stops to conduct personal business during official work trips.
The unnecessary expenses totaled $5,367, according to the IG.
Youngner said Goodwin has since reimbursed the government, and said it was up to her staff -- "who let her down" -- to make wise financial choices, including travel."

Yeah totally wasn’t her. It was the fault of those worthless people she was tasked to lead. Has she played the lesbian card yet? Probably could get more traction there.

  5. Another great Thanksgiving last week:  not a single person asked for the TV to be put on to watch football.
Good riddance to the NFL, at least in my tiny abode.

Well you missed a good one on Thanksgiving Night! Ole Miss at Mississippi State, people are calling it “The Piss and the Miss” down here.

OM Receiver catches what should be a game tying TD pending the extra point with 4 seconds left in the game and decides to mimic DK Metcalf two years ago, gets on all fours and acts like he’s taking a piss like a dog on the Mississippi State end zone. Gets flagged for 15 yards unsportsmanlike penalty which backs the try up 15 yards. Kicker then pushes it right and State goes on to win by 1 point. Never seen karma kick a team in the nuts so badly.

  6. Curious about this, do they have a definition of an “incident”?  I’ve had enough emergencies in the Talon that I’ve lost count.  Do they want you to list battle damage under this?  I have every intention of being open kimono on my apps but I don’t want to unintentionally leave something out and then get called on it.  Appreciate any info you have.

I didn’t list every time I shut an engine down in the T-38 or anything that wasn’t a reportable incident to the FAA. I listed my one Q-3 (that guy is blacklisted and not by me), and that was about it. I was involved in a Class C which was later upgraded to a B, which I probably should have mentioned but I had honestly forgotten about it because it happened at the school house when a C-17 broke our boom in half and landed with it still in his receptacle. That was a weird situation because the SQ/CC of the C-17s was flying and I guess he was a golden child. We waited around expecting to pee in cups but magically it all went away as if it never happened. Right before I graduated the IP found me and told me the damage was so bad that they had upgraded it. Those things you definitely want to list. I would say don’t hide anything but also don’t be the worrier who psychs himself out so much that he can’t perform come game day.

Also don’t be like the guy in my wing who showed up for the interview dropping the F-bomb every other sentence. The feedback I got was they really wanted to hire him but just couldn’t justify it.

  7. Where does this list sit in the DAL crew base?

Surprisingly this one was sitting out on one of the tables in the lounge/tv room.

So I can’t speak for other airlines since I only applied to SWA but I was amazed at just how friendly and easy the interview was. I even cracked a couple jokes and just had fun with the interviewers.

“What do you think is going to be the biggest challenge going from Military to SWA?”

“Figuring out what to do with all that money, Bob. Just kidding, but honestly... [discussion about leaning on others versus the military putting everything on your shoulders]”

The toughest part was the LOI, where they give you a bad situation with no good answers and only a couple mins to deal with it. Plus you may or may not have helpful crew members. My FO was hell bent on diverting to a place that just didn’t make sense. One guy in my group had an FO who tried to takeover the plane and make decisions for him. It’s like a better version of Delta’s “what would you do” because now you have a face to look at and it’s not a hypothetical anymore. JUST MAKE A DECISION AND DO IT while trying to not be an a-hole, passive or Capt America.

Good questions in here, keep them coming.

  8. Goodness. Love how she immediately goes to the “I had to deal with homophobia... not fair... not my fault...” bullshit. You screwed up and got caught. You seem like a $hitty leader and the people who you were charged to lead ended up stabbing you in the back while you were stepping on their heads to get to the top. How in the hell do we promote dipshits like this?

  9. Here’s one for y’all...

My retired parents need to downsize from their house and I’m trying to get them to move closer to me. My dad was a Marine Vet in Desert Storm and I need to get him applied for VA Disability. They bought their house via a VA loan for $375k four years ago. They already have a family from their church who wants to rent the house for around $2,850/month. The only other income they have would be his Military retirement and I’m guessing Social Security (They are 66, but I haven’t asked them if they are pulling that yet).

I found a townhome for $280k right down the road from me.

With the new VA limits and law changes, what does the rough math look like?

This is all taking place in Alabama.

    Thanks!

  10. Found a few posts about this in this thread, but topics usually stray away before a good answer. Has anybody had luck delaying the final pcs move after separation/retirement?  Also, is it 6 months or 1 year from separation to use it?
i went from AD to Reserves a few months ago and I’m looking to move in 3-4 years ish to the final “plant the roots location.”  For those that have had success, how’d u go about it?  I’ve heard it’s only a 1 year extension at a time, if it’s granted. TIA

6 months for me with Palace Front. I emailed for an extension and was granted a 1 year extension. Pretty easy process.

  11. I just went through Day 1 of my FC1 and failed DP Line A with the terrible circles. I couldnt believe it when she said it because I went through MEPs no problem - all the way through the chart. I went slow and took my time and I've never had issues with this.
I've heard that there are additional tests they will do - but what do those other tests involve? Trying to get ahead of this for tomorrow.
    -mm

Yeah I failed mine too 14 years ago or so. The tech said it was the highest failed item on the test. I don’t recall what the retest involved but I can tell you it was SUPER easy. I have never had depth perception issues. Once I found out it was always 2, 3 or 4 and never 1 or 5, it made life a lot easier and I never failed again.
