  1. don't forget to keep your mach up and check six
  2. As silly as the reflector belts are, I am just happy to be in civilian clothes.
  3. The Andy Griffith Show was the greatest show of all time. Always wished I could have grown up in Mayberry. RIP
  4. I was able to find some string in life support that looks identical to the laces. Just cut to length and burn the ends to keep from unraveling.
  5. I keep hearing rumors that they are going to require a PT test once you reach the desert. I tried searching the reg but couldnt really find anything but is there any acclimation time allowed?
  6. The 8th AF museum in Savannah, GA also has alot of records. Might want to check them out.
  7. Now I use TRS (Tricare Reserve Select) but before that I had a catastrophic policy with a 10K deductable. Always figured I could recover from 10K and the policy was only $15 a month. I just paid for any medical care I needed out of pocket. You offer to pay cash then and there and the prices drop at the Doc's office. Plus there is ALWAYS active duty available for something and if on orders for more than 30 days there is regular Tricare. With TRS insurance isnt even a factor anymore. I know some guys who got rid of their reg job insurance to go with the TRS.
  8. I met a guy who had been bumming for 20-25 years and still going. I hope to bum for around another nine years and get my full retirement then look for something else to do, maybe flying maybe not. If you live modestly within your means you dont have to worry about waiting tables or anything else.
  9. Guard baby for 20 years and have been bumming for 17 of those. Wouldn't have it any other way. It has been feast or famine some times but since 2003 it has been getting easier and easier.
  10. When I was a young 2 striper loadmaster I had a crusty Chief tell me "dont let these @$$holes kill you" best advice I have ever been given
  11. I thought they only took both when they went OCONUS. Only one for stateside.
  12. There needed to be some 40 year old Herk guy with a gut and farmers tan up there posing with a six pack of near beer.
  13. not any trickery just a cheapo WallyWorld digital camera
  14. For the SABC you can just answer anything and get a zero on the test and still get the certificate that says complete.
  15. I think TACC uses some program to figure out what time the flight needs to be so that the crew shows too early for breakfast, flies through lunch and lands several time zones away after everything has closed so that you can go the entire day with the only thing to eat is a box nasty.
  16. I use a gallon size zip lock bag to store my laptop in over there to keep the dust out.
  17. Not a C-5 guy here but I was a former C-130 Load before moving up front. I used to think it would have been better to be a FE prior to UPT but I have to say I think being a load helped out more with coming back to the same airplane. Being a Load isn't rocket science but it does help out in knowing what is going on back there and also what all they need to do to get the airplane ready for take off. It also lets you go back and help out when in a time crunch. You will also pick up alot just listening to the radios and any crew worth their salt will answer any questions you may have. I assume in the C-5 FTU (because they did in C-130 FTU) they will teach you the systems. Not as in depth as FE school but they will still teach them to you and you can get further in depth when you get to your home unit and get more experience in the jet. Just my opinion and your results may be different.
  18. I just put down first available on my dream sheet and was sent to XL. I also did the T-1 so no corpus for me.
  19. Being prior enlisted I had my first supervisor and my last supervisor put my gold bars on me and then we went outside and I saluted both and gave them both a silver dollar. I went to a coin shop and got two 100% silver dollars minted that year. Those cost me about $20 a piece. They both still have them and both had them mounted on a plaque.
  20. Avoid Scott like the plague. To be "The Showcase Of AMC" they are worthless and would be better off without a runway at all. When it comes to FBO vs any AFB...go FBO. They are there to make money not spend it, therefore service is usually first class at an FBO.
  21. Showing my age here but waaaaayyyyyy back in the day, and I dont remember the exact verbage but 55-130 said they will be worn around the neck unless they interfered with the parachute straps or something like that.
