War sucks.  The dead in this video have found peace.   Regardless of what side you are on, the people fighting get sent to war by politicians who need more.  More power, more money and more dead bodies.   In the end, the people actually doing the fighting have more in common with the enemies they’re fighting than they do with the politicians sending them to die.

I hope many more of them find peace in the days to come.

I hate saying this so much in one week, but you're right.   He shouldn't be singling out the shaving waiver as I know it affected more brothers in service than other races.  But I can't hide the fact that I would laugh at his joke.  Probably the reason I was forced to retire at 20 years and 4 days.

In all seriousness, I agree a senior leader shouldn't be making fart jokes.

Is there really a reason dudes in the service need to shave?  Other than my o2 mask or mopp gear wont fit properly?  Are chicks forced to shave anything?  Lol.

Your MOPP gear will fit properly. It was a myth leadership used to say why we couldn't have beards.

Meh, I'd say it's a bit different than the personnelist who wants to sport his beard to fit in at the coffee shop.  There really seems to be a strong infatuation with beards recently.  I don't particularly hate them, but I get why the military/companies are against them.

On another note, you guys see this dudes first duty assignment.  Irakloin AB in Crete, probably not a bad place to chill for a first assignment.

I just think it's a matter of where the priorities are. We approved additional hairstyles for women because the previous regs caused hair loss for some women. We didn't force those women to get "pony tail waivers".

We have data that shaving waivers for medical reasons lead to lower promotion rates. And since there's one group that gets more shaving waivers than others, it directly contradicts the D&I efforts of the DoD.

We have data that shows the Air Force medical folks spend something like 10,000 man hours a year on shaving waivers. Wouldn't it be nice to have those appointments open for real issues?

I admit I'm not an expert in every NATO country, but I think we're in the vast minority when it comes to beards. Almost every other NATO country allows them.

And then we approved neck tattoos? Beards are unprofessional, but neck tattoos are fine? GTFO.

And then to casually disregard legitimate medical issues as a "fad" rings very hollow from a dude who wore a beard for the better part of his own career.

Reddit hated on him hard a few weeks/months ago because he labeled beards ‘faddish’ during a q&a with the CMSAF.

Shoot a thousand haji but tell one airman no beard and you’re no longer a badass.

He compared folks not shaving due to medical or religious reasons to wearing skinny jeans.

Ironic given that he has photos like this:

You can’t make this stuff up.  And I’d bet a lot of money the update is not in us aviator’s favor.

HAF/A1 is also holding up the latest rated board for AFROTC cadets.

Scientific American (allegedly a science focused magazine) goes full retard with some moronic professor at Princeton claiming to disprove the human gender binary. Even advanced degrees can’t save someone from being a complete dumbass. Basically lots of word salad nonsense that ends with … humans have dif. interests and personalities. No shit Sherlock, now outline details on the third sex you discovered!

    https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/heres-why-human-sex-is-not-binary/?amp=true

It's wild that, in trying to embrace gender diversity, the left is actually pushing all the gender stereotypes that past generations of feminists tried to get rid of.

Just curious, asking hypothetically because I was in a very similar position to you with ACSC when I decided to get out as a Major. What would it take for you to do SDE?

My personal thoughts were the academic rigor of ACSC online were so abysmal I found it insulting to be asked to expend time on it. I did maybe 1/3 before I decided this was a waste of my time which could be better expended elsewhere. For me personally, I think if the program actually had merit and actually offered meaningful improvement on my understanding of leadership and air power, I may have spent time on it. Some way to enforce completion during duty time would be nice too.

I did the senior leadership group and tapped out.  Mostly because it seems worthless, but also because I don't really want to make O-6. I want to retire in a couple years where I'm currently stationed. I don't want to lose all control of my career and be moved every 6-12 months to fill an O-6 job somewhere. I'm not competitive to be a commander, so whatever job I would get would likely be a soul-sucking staff job at a MAJCOM or something similar.

Pass. I'll just ride out what I've got and take my $70k/year pension.

Talked to my father in law yesterday, he’s incredulous at the idea that Biden or any Dem could win. He wants trump. He will not listen that trump = best chance of Dem success. He and people like him will fuck us all over, though under the best of intentions. Emotions on both sides of the spectrum are what landed us in the dumpster fire we’re in. Detach and make rational decisions and we can get ourselves out of this. Both Biden and Trump are irrational picks for different reasons. It’s that simple.

My mother is the same way. She doesn't seem to care that the Dems WANT Trump as the nominee.

Prince Newsom is an extension of bay area royalty.   More of the same shit with a nice use of hair gel.  Biden vs Trump in 24?  JFC who is the running this shit show?

Out of the two, I'd rather hang out with Trump.  He'd be a good time (sts).  Hanging out with Biden would be as fun as hanging out with Abe Lincoln at Disneyland.  But seriously, I really cant believe these are potentially our only choices.  At least Trump appears to be coherent and his sons appear to not be national security risks.  Good God I hope we can scrounge together a better choice of candidates.

Trump would be the huge narcissistic asshole that never shuts up about himself.

I'm hoping we dump Trump and Biden and at least pretend to nominate some competent people.

Whether you believe it or not, people like Joe Biden are the mainstream of the party and have been for a while. More liberal in many ways than in the past, even Clinton 90s past, but parties change and evolve all the time. More conservative in other ways than, say, FDR or LBJ.

The GOP has certainly changed quite a bit in my lifetime, especially in the last ~10 years from Romney/Ryan 2012 to MAGA & Trump today. There’s a very broad swath of ideology between those two camps just within the Republican Party!

There is a large part of the Dem party to the left of Biden, like Bernie et al, and there are some to the right like Manchin, Eric Adams, etc. It also varies by issue and region and there’s not a smooth alignment of ideology or policy along any one axis as I’m sure you know.

You don’t have to like it or agree with current admin policies, but calling Biden a radical is not a winning strategy and not believable to the American public. In fact, it’s such a bad strategy that I really hope all my Republicans friends go for it full bore!

You lost me when you said FDR was more liberal than Biden. At least his government spending was based around putting people to work on public projects.

Thanks for confirming the bias in the media!  For what it’s worth, I’m not a Catholic.

It doesn't matter if you are. You want to attribute this to some kind of deliberate bias like the media is protecting the Dalai Lama. I'm telling you the lack of coverage is due to the lack of interest.

  12. 4 hours ago, HeloDude said:

That’s exactly my point…the media will provide more coverage if the pope did what the Dalai Lama did…so why is that?

Let me repeat it for you:

There are far more Catholics than Buddhists in the west.  A major Catholic figure doing something like this will garner much more attention, concern, and eyeballs for advertisers than a major Buddhist figure.  The western audience sees this, goes "gross, glad that's not happening here" and changes the channel.  They see something about the Catholic church, and they're glued to the TV to see if their local church is one of the ones involved in the scandal.

In short - one gets more attention than the other, because one attracts more viewers than the other.

Got it—bias.  We should individuals on their actions, not on the actions of others.

Go with whatever answer you want, dude. It's clear you're going to anyway.

Are you suggesting because of what some priests did that makes what the Dalai Lama did ok?  This was in the news for one day at the most and that was it.  I’m sure if the Pope did the same thing it would have been in the news for more than a day…

None of this was to excuse behavior in either case. It was to explain why one received more coverage than the other.

  15. 14 hours ago, HeloDude said:

Are you suggesting that if it was reported today that the Pope did something extremely inappropriate with a child (like what the Dahli Lama just did) that it would have been handled the same in the media as what we saw with the Dahli Lama?

I'm saying there was widespread abuse within the Catholic church, their response was to cover it up and move offenders to new locations, and that after an initial flurry of reporting, it is out of the news.

You can posit a nefarious motivation if you want. I think the more likely answer to why the Catholic scandals got more airtime is that there are far more Catholics than Buddhists in the US, so the story drives more viewers.

  16. 23 hours ago, HeloDude said:

If this was done by a Catholic Bishop or the Pope, or a leader in the Baptist church, you wouldn’t hear the end of it from the majority of the media.

I feel like it DID happen in the Catholic church, and it HAS disappeared from the media.

Wow.  Didn't expect that from you.  You've been had.  Talk to some Black Sea desk officers and FAOs about Ukraine from about 2000 up until Russia invaded.  Ukraine is one of the most crooked and corrupt nations on earth.  I understand an active duty person flapping the party line, but dude, do you really believe we should put 25K Americans into that cesspool country that exploited America and NATO for everything it could? And do you really think we are putting a dent into the Russian threat?  They have nukes.  Ukraine doesn't matter just like Afghanistan didn't matter in '89.  The Russians still have nukes.  Let them take that corrupt shithole, then they will really be bleeding ruples and blood trying to control it.  You've been had.

A near-peer has shown their ass on the global stage. They're hauling out WWII-era tanks to replace their losses. They've united the Western world behind them, to the point where NATO is less dependent on them for energy than any time in the last 30 years. They convinced the Scandinavian countries to finally join NATO.

In what world do you look at Russia's current state and say "eh, they haven't lost anything"?

Sure, they have nukes. So does Pakistan. Do you lie awake at night worrying about Pakistan? Having seen the state of their conventional military, I wonder if they even have the capacity to launch the nukes or if they've been picked clean of electronics and scrap aluminum.

Just waiting for someone to chime in that Russia is going to overpower Ukraine with a Spring offensive...because the last one went so well for them, before they lost 10,000 pieces of equipment and 100,000 soldiers.

You would be surprised at what they teach at "Colonel Charm School."  They start by sending you a document attached to a congratulations note.  Paraphrasing the document but mostly verbatim:

    1.  Don't ask to be stationed near your parents because they are ill, all Colonels have older parents and we can not accommodate.

    2.  Don't ask for an extension in one location so your kid can finish high school, all Colonels have kids in high school.

    3.  Expect to move a lot, the average Colonel moved every 18 months. The needs of the service were never more true than now that you are a Colonel.

    4.  Again, don't ask for the above, if you don't like these rules, thanks for your service, bye Felicia.

I went through both the Group Commander Course and the Wing Commander Course prior to taking command and both were centered on "here are the things that gets Colonels in trouble:

    1.  The car - I shit you not...long discussions about the rules for using your White Top.  The car went away after my command so I guess it was even more sensitive.

    2.  Money - Be careful and be sure about how you and those in your command spend govt funds...trust but verify.

    3.  Your dick - I forget the percentage but as I recall almost half of all instances of being removed from command were caused by misplacing your dick.  There was a small section about being a dick...for a brief time the AF was actually going to stop caustic leaders but we all know that was just lip service.

I can't imagine why so many people retire instead of taking the promotion to O-6...
