The rub in the current system, while extremely irritating, is a vote for one is an active vote against the other. At least you’re actively countering the worst of the two choices vs. making no difference at all, or indirectly helping the worst candidate win (depending on which one wins and who you consider the worst of the two).

We all despise being forced into a lesser of two evils situation, and hope for a different situation in the future, but abstaining for voting for either in said situation is not a solution.

Nope. I'll either vote 3rd party or not at all. I have not seen anything that convinces me that, despite all their rhetoric, Republicans and democrats are actually that far apart on a national level.

It will do nothing to solve the 2 party problem. I get it, you feel better about it, but your feelings don’t move the needle a single bit. I want 2 party to go away also, but I don’t have a good answer for how to do that. I do know me taking a “feel good” trip on the 3rd party road doesn’t do shit to fix it.

Neither does voting for establishment candidates.

Are what ifs open? What if trump told all of his supporters he’s not going to run, he endorses Desantis or Vivek, and he goes after the corrupt establishment as a “civilian” while Desantis or Vivek goes after it as a politician. The team up for a 2-pronged attack would be awesome…but instead trump is an egotistical asshat who just can’t think beyond himself. He could do a lot of good for this country from outside DC, but he can’t see that.

Here's a what-if that I think Trump is too egotistical for...he campaigns deep into the primary. All the dems focus their attacks on Trump. Then at some point he just drops and and endorses someone (probably Vivek given how similar the talking points are).

what's the stated end goal of the "endless ukranian support" drones?

what is your goal? because endlessly throwing money at ukraine no matter what seems like a poor national security strategy.

And what is you end goal? Surrender a bunch of territory to Russia and do this again in 7-10 years, like when they took Crimea?

Really good discussion from Vivek. Even if you hate Tucker, this is worth your time. He actually talks very little (surprising, I know) - it’s mostly Vivek talking. It’s time we have an election that isn’t Trump v Biden (or similar old, rich white dudes).

I listened to Vivek on the All In podcast and I thought he did a pretty good job. I have some disagreements with him, but at this stage, I think he may be the closest to what I would want in the White House.

And the left can't accuse him off just being an old white man, so the diversity angle is covered.

    Ok. I’m a little surprised.

Not quite the admission I was hoping for, but I sincerely respect your movement in that direction. Solid effort. I don’t believe I’ve ever argued anything about masks, but whatever.

I’ll not bring up it again.

Of course, we remain far apart the other things you mentioned. It won’t be me that convinces you to change your position on those, but I have full confidence that “time”will, again, just as it did here. Problem being, you’ll be late. However, I will be there to say, “I told you so.”  🙂

    cheers

And I guess I'll hold out some kind of hope you change your position on international relations.

Not necessarily. Any minor expression of regret or acknowledgement that perhaps you were caught up in the mass hysteria, as many good people were, would completely absolve you in my mind. Until then, when I see your screen name, I see the guy that he wanted to pull the plug on people in the hospital. I'm morally obligated to say something.

    Well, here you go then:

The vaccines definitely don't work as well as advertised.  I don't think there should have been a mandate.  That said, I think the knee-jerk reaction against any kind of protective measures was pretty ridiculous as well.  I think that Pfizer and company made a shit-ton of money from hysteria, and I think that's shameful that we were sold that bill of goods.

I also think it isn't helpful to paint every medical professional as a mustache-twirling evil doer for suggesting basic protective measures.  And I still think it is incredibly alarming the number of military members who think they can just tell senior leaders to pound sand over a decision as trivial as "wear a mask at work if you're not vaccinated".  Like, I get it, people didn't want to get the vaccine.  I still think the DoD has the authority to require it, but whatever, it doesn't seem to be super effective anyway.  But the idea that you can't even be bothered to put up with the barest inconvenience when required by the SECDEF is baffling to me.  "I'm willing to fight and die for my country, but I'm not willing to wear a mask".

And then, to reinforce your point, you parrot Russian propaganda.  Like, literally, Russian talking points.  On Covid, on the weakness of the military, on the weakness of the US in general, on the weakness in the culture, on Ukraine.  You could, quite literally, be a stand-in for Putin's press secretary.  All while claiming to love America.

So sure, I'll apologize.  I'm sorry that I thought the vaccines would be helpful.  I'm sorry that I supported the mandates given their track record.  I won't apologize for "leaving people to die outside hospitals", because that was never a stance I took.  If you want to misrepresent my position, go for it.

I won't say what I see when your username pops up, because quite frankly, I value the forum too much to risk the ban.

Corruption is a major problem in Ukraine. Check.

Some people may be pressured to keep aid flowing in order to keep some Ukrainians quiet about certain American financial/political issues.  Check

At the end of the day, Ukraine is still fighting against an unjustified invasion by one of our "competitors," and stopping that sort of thing is in our interests and the interests of basic justice.

I swear, I think if China invaded California half of these guys would say we shouldn't respond because governor Newsome is corrupt...

I hate to admit that one of the first things I check in a bio is number of Air Medals a senior leader has. My thought being that those who have reached O-6 to Flag rank in current times were in their prime during GWOT and had ample opportunity to deploy. Not even based on heroic flying or anything but just being there and getting participation ribbons.

Obviously exceptions exist (Eagle/Raptor dudes being a great example), but when I see AFSOC dudes with 1 Air Medal it really makes me wonder.

I had an OG/CC in the B-1 who was missing during all of OEF/OIF. He was introduced at a formal function as having "over 100 combat hours".

For perspective, as a brand-new captain on my first deployment, I had 100 hours in my first month.

This is way worse than 2008.   We are living through the decline of western civilization.   Haters, read some history.  If it happened to Egypt,
Rome, the British Empire and etc…it will happen here.  Enjoy the good times while you can.  Shit is going to get real.   I’ve never seen SF look like that.  Ever. Also, I ride my bike along coyote creek on the OC LA border daily.  I live about 1/4 mile from said creek.  Now you know where to drop that JDAM (come get some Sadam) The homeless are growing in numbers in the creek.   The state just moves them around, never really addressing the root problem. There is trash being thrown into our rivers, that flow into the ocean and nobody does shit about it.  Wait until the homeless start organizing and carrying guns.  The state of CA has lost control.   My wife thinks I’m a ducking lunatic for pointing this out.  The people here act like if we ignore it, it will just go away.   This is way worse man.  Way worse.  At least my homes keep going up in value lol.

Just because California is a shithole doesn't mean all of western civilization is failing. Maybe you just need to move out of a failing city.

These kind of videos need to be shared with anyone who likes the woke angenda.

SF has always been gay (lol) but they used to take care of it at least.

    This is sad.

One of the worrying things about this, aside from the obvious, is that we may be looking at a real estate crash on par with 2008. The developers have mortgages on these properties that they pay by leasing them out. Now they don't have tenants, and refinancing will be much more expensive with the interest rate hikes. At some point they stop paying the multi- million dollar mortgages and the banks start eating those losses in a big way.

Blues Fridays? JFC. Blues Monday is bad enough but Blues Friday seems designed solely to kick people in the junk.

Absolute idiots in charge in so many places.

On the plus side, you can wear blues to a bar. Unlike the flight suit/OCPs. Which is a bonus if you have to do all your drinking off-base.

I'd definitely take the 0800-1500 option. That's earlier than I leave already.

And with no drinking at the squadron bar, a 1500 departure should get you to the local Applebee's just in time for happy hour...

During my time working with ROTC I was shocked at how little people actually wanted to fly, I figured there would be 100 kids fighting for pilot slots but that just isn’t the case. I’m actually shocked at how many people I fly with at the airlines that have absolutely no interest in military flying or ever had any interest in anything military in general. So targeting the kids with your experiences might not work.

I had a similar experience my first year in ROTC, but it was also amazing to see how many cadets became interested in flying once they had two rated officers in the detachment telling flying stories. We went from like 3 freshmen in a class of 30 being interested to commissioning over half the graduating class into rated spots.

The cadets in ROTC already want to join the Air Force...I don't think you need to push too hard to get them interested in aviation. A lot of them had pre-screened themselves out "because I don't have perfect vision" or "I had a concussion once in junior high". All it took was a little education to convince them to at least apply and make the Air Force turn them down instead of keeping themselves from even competing.

I mean... it's legal in California. Not sure I'd want my lawyer hitting a bong while he's on the clock, though. Maybe Hunter had different ideas about what he wants from legal counsel.
