Ya gotta admit that the short haul airline system has to change..and soon..probably to high speed rail...the Europeans are starting now..The waste of POL to haul a container of people up to ..I dunno 270 ..whatever..cannot be sustained..

We couldn't even build high speed rail from LA to San Francisco. What makes you think we'll be able to do it across state lines?

Met a dude a few weeks ago. F-16 patch doing a PhD candidacy at one of our national laboratories to discern the necessary AI/ML advances that will be needed for the loyal wingman program. My guess is this change is included to get dudes like that to the top easier.

If you're a patch hand- selected for a PhD program, how much extra help do you need?

Sorry gents, as soon as they rolled out the “masking” umpty years ago there were plenty of old heads who said not to trust that things wouldn’t change once again. The USAF is fickle.

    It’s not a shock.

Do your school. Or don’t. It’ll work out either way. The USAF payed for FOUR - count’em - 4x masters degrees for me. I (still) only need one, and even that is arguable.

    YMMV.

    Chuck

I always expected the masters degrees would come back...what I'm really curious about is the "rewarding specific degrees" portion.

Do AU's "Leadership" and "National Security" degrees count as "technical" for the purposes of promotion?

It's the internet.  ad hominem attacks are authorized.  And using the phrase ad hominem makes it look like you don't know the definition of a new latin word.  Just say "personal attacks."

Have you seen what that cat has posted?  I'm definitely sad that he flew B-1s.  We have some great people in that community.  Hopefully he hasn't been running around the community poisoning the Lts with his takes on the merits of mandates, article 15s and such.

    Ah, I love you too.

I'm shocked we are even having a conversation if this rump ranger's actions were acceptable (commander or not). He's got serious mental health issues and needs to go.

Good news there... this was a retirement photo. Pretty sure that O-3 exec is still in, though.

Look man, I agree the ad hominem was uncalled for (as it is in any environment).

But your comparison is BS. Have you ever seen a seatbelt disclaimer in an automobile manual, warning people that it may not protect them in a collision? Have you ever seen an alcoholic beverage container tell people that driving after drinking it is just fine?

Because here's the thing. Any surgical mask container you pick up ever since it became popular post COVID has a disclaimer about how it is not tested to protect against COVID 19 on the side.

I'll say it again. If you want to mask up, go for it. The evidence for it is...not great. Therefore, it should not be mandated in normal medical settings in view of its downsides for medical treatment and communication.

Seatbelts are mandated. People wearing seatbelts have still died in car accidents.

He said he wasn't a fan of any mandates. We can argue the merits of wearing a mask in a hospital if you want, but his statement that he hated all mandates seems a bit silly for someone in a profession built on safety rules like aviation.

I don't accept a whole lot of mandates.  And that makes me a weirdo.  And that's too bad. You have demonstrated over and over that you love mandates.  You are bringing them out of the woodwork.  You love mandates, they make you feel comfortable.  I wish they didn't.  I wish you still had an ounce of pioneering blood in you.  I wish you still had a fighting spirit.  And I wish you never flew on the B-1.

And I wish you'd never joined this forum, but here we are.

Have fun driving drunk with no seatbelt.

Ok...What the actual F!....more importantly through what twisted route to the end of the internet did you find yourself on that webpage.  Of all the things I do not know, I am saddened that is no longer one of them.

I'm not sure I'll ever understand the people who want to role play animals while having sex, but I can think of far more damaging kinks.

O-6 taking pictures of his junk in uniform, having sex with an O-3 in his chain, and publishing all of it on Twitter?

Let me ask you... would you have a problem if an airman in your squadron wore various parts of their uniform while making OnlyFans content?

Would you have a problem with an airman in your squadron wearing a mask in uniform at work?

IMO, "Shouldn't everyone be free to make their own risk decision?" is not logically consistent with "of course the point is we accept some mandates"

While I personally don't like mandates (you're not the boss of me!), on principle they should be the minimum amount necessary to do the job.  I also think that there should be a healthy discussion to ensure that minimum amount.

In this case it seems that the mask mandates are broad and over-reaching at all levels, and the lack of follow-on conversation is the sticky wicket in the whole affair.

Just my $0.69 (inflation is a real bitch)

That second part was my point. We accept a whole lot of mandates. But somehow wearing a mask in a hospital is where it becomes tyranny.

NDAA 2023 authorizes service secretaries to approve an increase to the flight pay cap from $1000/mo to $1500/mo. Additionally, authorizes bonus yearly cap increase to $50k/yr.

After seeing big Air Force drag their feet on using the full authorized amount for bonuses, I'm not optimistic about seeing $1500/ month flight pay. Especially when we have B-21s to pay for.

To your specific argument, the safety precaution of the risk from a highly flammable material (100% Oxygen) in close proximity to an ignition source (cigarette/cigar/pipe/joint...whatever) is backed up by science that is devoid of any political argument.

In a free society, mandates from the government are always an exercise in how much power can the government assume that the populace is willing to tolerate.

Are there a lot of O2 tanks in the waiting room?

Even then... shouldn't everyone be free to make their own risk decision? "That guy is smoking next to an O2 tank, maybe I should leave".

Of course the point is we accept some mandates... it's part of living in a society. I don't know why some people have decided wearing a mask in a hospital is the last straw towards a totalitarian society.

The problem isn’t masks, it’s mandates.  We are incapable of intelligent mask mandate enforcement.  The nature of a mandate is brute, unreasonable enforcement focusing on compliance regardless of circumstances. This leaves no room for nuance, a core aspect of real life.

Also noteworthy that two non-doctors are arguing we force doctors to dress a certain way in their own hospitals.  Here in FL I do not see the majority of doctors voluntarily wearing masks all day in the hospital.  Shouldn’t their opinion carry some weight?  The majority of Americans and doctors are sick of unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats imposing rules that defy common sense.

Like you I don’t want to sit next to an obviously contagious hospital patron in a waiting room, but if C19 taught me anything it’s the value of freedom.  You take the good with the bad, it’s worth it. You are free to wear as many masks as you’d like; please stop pretending there’s a movement to restrict your decision to wear a mask.  So bizarre to place demands on others while simultaneously acting like a victim… no one cares about your choice to mask yourself.

TLDR:  freedom good, mandate bad.  But freedom hard, mandate easy.  Still, freedom better.

Would you push back against other mandates? Like... is it a terrible blow to your freedom that you can't smoke in the hospital waiting room?

Ya, the US really screwed the pooch on that one. I guess they forgot to consider the B-21 public unveiling event when appointing the 2nd highest ranking military official late last year. Rookie move.

I get he's vice chairman of the joint chiefs, but seems like CSAF would have been a better fit regardless of his place in the JCS pecking order.

It may seem unAmerican, but I'm not sure I'm going to be cheering for the USWNT.  After all their crybaby antics about not being paid as much (news flash, you're not as good or you wouldn't lose to U15 boys teams) and their absurd political grandstanding, they could use a setback to have a reason to focus on actually playing soccer.

It wasn't even about their ability. They got paid whether they played or not; got health insurance through US Soccer, had guaranteed salaries and time off.

The men had none of those and negotiated for a bigger percentage of earnings in return for having to pay more games, not having salary guarantees, and not having insurance. In fact, the women were offered the men's contract and rejected it.

We can have a discussion about prison/sentencing reform, judicial reform, rehabilitation, etc (probably better on a different thread), but as a business owner, you should do what’s best for the business, and that includes risk management.

As to question two... about 63%.

We must beat those snaggletoothed bastards!!

I'm being overly dramatic lol.   I hope we can at least draw.

We're probably going to get less help from France this time around...
