Ha Ha, well played, sir.

Roll your eyes if you want but at the end of a long flight when you know what horrors await you at the Deid it's the little things in life that give you joy, things like throwing the stick to the stop and rolling to 60 degrees in something the size of a Denny's. Puts a smile on my face every time. Thanks for the

The only fun approach at the Deid is the mid-field visual anyway.

To my knowledge, it has never happened. Last year though a Col claimed to have almost been hit by one, which led to the speed limit in CC being reduced to less than that of a school zone.

AFI 33-360: 2.3. Conflicting Publications. When guidance in a publication issued by a field unit conflicts with the guidance issued by a higher-level unit, the higher-level publication takes precedence. 2.9. Supplements. In order to minimize the release of conflicting guidance and duplicate information, Air Force activities add organization-specific guidance to higher headquarters publications by issuing supplements to implement higher headquarters publications, rather than issuing separate publications (see Table 2.1.). Supplementary guidance cannot be less restrictive than the basic publication, but it can be more restrictive. Supplementary guidance must not contradict the basic publication.

Honestly dude, you're not missing much. Think of every other ILS you've ever flown, it's pretty much the same.

So I guess we violate this rule every time we fly? Ridiculous. Anybody have a PDF copy of the Deid uniform reg? I feel like laughing at some stupidity. Maybe I can print it out and wipe my a$$ with it.

Info on Ramstein AB, Germany
Stayed in KMCC (the bigg-ass hotel by the flightline) and the rooms were REALLY nice. They've been waffling back and forth on whether aircrew will be staying there, but I guess the latest is that they will have a limited number of rooms available to crew dogs. The soundproof window glass works really well too.

Saw a guy there a few weeks ago with a pink reflective belt and pink reflective suspenders. Pretty funny.

Anyone care to post a copy of this "reg" for the purposes of mocking and ridicule? Also heard a rumor of a little known provision that transients are only required to wear clothing "similar to" PT gear. Anyone know if there is any truth to this?

Deid Accomodations
So here I am, sitting in the BPC and looking for a few laughs so I try to go to South Park's official web site where you can watch any episode of the show for free, only to discover that the site is now blocked because it is "pornography". Nice. [morale]

Manas Air Base
I don't know about deployed folks, but transients share a room. It's nice to have a bathroom down the hall though and not have to walk to a caddy like at the deid.

End of the ACU
I'm liking the black "no-shine" boot. Way better than the puke green ones.

Irony...
Maybe in every class of RC school graduates they make one or two people fly real planes.

Hail to the Ch-ch-ch-chief
"Can you grow one? Yes you can!" awesome.

Airlift and Air Refueling Squadrons
So I guess what happened last year was mom and dad got hauled off to jail by child protective services for making the UAV's live in the basement, feeding them moldy bread and rainwater.

Irony...
Somebody needs to tell "Nitro Models" that their "Predator" model looks more like a Reaper. [Edit] further down on the page they do refer to it as "Predator B" but they also call it an "RQ-1", so it looks like they're only half wrong.

Latest Movies
Just saw "Basterds" last night, and I thought it was pretty damn good. Add Col Hans Landa to the ranks of the great film villains, that guy was just plain scary. Brad Pitt was pretty funny too, especially a scene where he tries to pass himself off as Italian, honestly believing that he can get away with not making any attempt to disguise his hillbilly accent and the Germans won't notice because they "don't have a good ear for Italian".

Glasses vs contacts at UPT
I've worn my contacts at the Deid without any problems. On some of the dustier days glasses might be more comfortable, but that's about it. I don't like wearing the normal-looking glasses that the AF gave me when I fly because they bend easily/don't fit well with a headset, and are too narrow to work well with NVG's. I've never met anyone who gave me a hard time about what glasses I wear, but per the reg the only ones you're technically allowed to wear are the ugly ones (including sunglasses). Like I said though, nobody really seems to care, so do what works best for you.

Glasses vs contacts at UPT
"2" on what others have said regarding the AF issue glasses. Before I got contacts, I always wore the big dorky glasses while flying. The big surface area made them really functional, especially when looking under NVG's. They can issue you RX sunglasses as well. If you can, try to get the temple style with the little wire that wraps around the back of your ear (I think they call them the "comfort cable" or something). It's extremely comfortable under a headset, and will keep those big heavy suckers from sliding off your head when your face gets sweaty. All that being said, contacts are the way to go IMO. I got them 6 months ago and have never regretted it.
