  1. It hasn't really been discussed yet, but BEING MARRIED = MORE $$$ I'm not saying to get married just for the cash, do it because you're in love and all that too. Get married right after you get commissioned because if you are married, you get dislocation allowance for your initial PCS. I didn't know that until I got an extra chunk of cash deposited in my account from finance. I actually thought it was a mistake and tried to get them to take it back, but they said you get it if you have dependents. "2" on what everyone else said. Being married is a blast, just make sure your prospective spouse knows what they're getting into. Some guys get their wives to help them study and all that, but for me the most helpful thing my wife did was just be understanding of the fact that for that year, I was going to be extremely busy and that there would be times when I would be at work for 12 hours, come home, eat a quick sandwich, shut myself up in the office and study for three hours, go to bed, wake up, and repeat for days on end.

There was a Bravo Two Zero movie that came out a few years ago. It was straight to video, but was really good and, like you said, somewhat depressing. Sean Bean plays Andy McNab. Good flick.
  3. So here's the deal. I'm heading off to Altus in Aug for C-17 PIQ, and the course info online says I need a helmet with a boom mike for NVG training. Since I did primary at Whiting, I was never issued a helmet by the AF (I had to give my navy one back). I've been asking around Vance trying to get a hold of a helmet, but the folks at life support and in my squadron say they don't issue them here. Does anybody know if they will issue me a helmet at Altus or will they bitch me out for not getting one prior to showing up? (and yes, I used the search function prior to posting this thread)
  4. Garmin Streetpilot 2620 I bought a couple years ago. Very helpful for PCSing every 6-10 months during casual/UPT. The streetpilot 2XXX series is a little more bulky than some of the newer models, but they have tons of features, are rugged/water resistant, and the screen is visible even in direct sunlight
  5. It's "fun" to use "quotes". Wouldn't you "agree"? J/k, all in good fun
