I told him I had no idea why (at the time I didn't) and that it seemed ridiculous to me which he took to mean I hated my job and was shitting on my own people. Another guy from the same unit on the very same day was giving me shit for missileers wearing flight suits and that we didn't "deserve" the leather jackets (whatever the ###### that means). I realized that most missileers don't care except for the convenience factor and the pilots that complained about it were just whiny bitches. That's about as far as the argument needs to go.

I know the 120th was pulling alerts down Californyway for awhile. Could be that it'll be cheaper in the long run to just have the jets there rather than sending jets, people, and support down there. Cheaper than relocating/training the unit? Probably not. But lets be honest, the only reason the 120th got Eagles after the first BRAC was because Schweitzer was the guy that gave the Democrats a supermajority. All that attention gave him clout and suddenly Great Falls picks up -15's, greatly increasing the odds of reelection. Just like that BRAC, this one too will probably change dramatically in the next few months...it is an election year.

It always astounds me how often I've had to reiterate this to people. Maybe it takes learning the hard way....I know I did.

I don't remember if it was Jeppesen or Sporty's but I bought some of the Instrument materials (DVDs or cd's) off ebay a few years ago and they didn't work because I didn't have the right authorization code from said company. Apparently, when you buy them, they give you a code and that code only works for you when you call to register it. The guy I bought the discs from had never used them either. Just a heads up.

There are a lot of people in UPT right now that are (potentially) facing this same situation with the C-27. The fact is, if you made it through T-6's, you're most likely going to make it through UPT and therefore you are a safe bet and highly marketable to other Guard/Reserve units. As in pretty much any unit that can, will hire you. I think that's probably even more true with fighter units. Prior to T-6 complete, you may have a little more difficulty but I imagine it's still possible.

FWIW, I definitely requested a separation from AD when I did Palace Front in exactly the same situation you're in. Good idea being suspicious of the recruiter. My experiences with recruiters at every single level has been less than desirable.

I really love the beer from my Mr. Beer kit. No but seriously, brewing beer as an unofficial select-invite squadron "function" often was the start of a great night. And the best part is that if you brew it, it usually tastes good to you. Even our complete screwups (like the apple beer that came out like a hard cider) usually turned out ok. When we were still bottling I forgot to add priming sugar once...that one didn't turn out so well. As far as supplies, I prefer the local shops if they're available. I've found that the guys that own those shops are usually pretty knowledgeable and a lot of them have even been brew-masters at smaller breweries before they started a shop. Cheers.

I just separated from AD in Montana to a ANG unit in Tennessee and did a full DITY move. Before I left MT I bought an 8*16 enclosed trailer to put all my stuff in. Submitted all my paperwork yesterday and today I get a call saying I won't be allowed to claim the trailer as an expense because it doesn't qualify. I realize I won't be reimbursed for the cost of the trailer and that I can't add the weight of the trailer when I weigh it. But being able to claim that as a moving expense will save me several hundred dollars in taxes since the cost of the trailer will effectively eliminate any taxable "profit." Just seems like bullshit that you can claim tape and boxes and all that stuff but not an actual MOVING TRAILER. Does this sound right or can someone point me to the correct regs so I can find out?
