  1. Let's just hope this over course correction does not expand to military members. Can you imagine needing a flight waiver because you had COVID?
  2. Hmmm....I just checked my January LES and I am getting $700. I'm a 10+ year dude...this is seriously jacked...what's the correct amount? I would think the 2018 table on the DFAS site would be the master.
  3. I am seeing the same thing on this chart - looks legit $1k at 10 years...I had not heard anything about this and my finance office is still working on the fix for the original $750 and $1k change from October.
  4. I am surprised no one has mentioned that the whole "raise" is even less appealing when considering that flight pay is taxed. So that $50 and $150 dollar raise, take about 15-30% off depending on your bracket (probably over-simplified percentages). I calculated out that my $30k bonus for 4 years ($120k) is really just a 3 year bonus as the 4th year goes to pay the taxes (net about $22k per year x 4 = $88k versus the full $120k).
  5. I thought 1288's still had to be signed by the losing unit. The tour is 6 months in-country plus the spin-up (4 months+). Talked to a guy who did this tour and the more he talked the more I had zero interest in ever doing it. Guard duty on the wall!? Especially when you hear that we are maintaining the Herk's and when we leave they will likely end up parked as the Afghans lack the skill/training and the native language T.O.'s to actually maintain them. State Department job not likely to go away anytime soon no matter how pointless it is. Youngstown lost six dudes to this - all punched. Also, I am sure the "we are out of money till January" that we are all experiencing (surprised no one hear is talking about it) will not help motivate anyone who was thinking about seeking full-time employment elsewhere to stick around.
  6. As far as I know - they did. If there is no requirement than just having a type should be an extra box to help one in the rack-and-stack at HR. So, not sure why the reference to it on pilotcredentials or why it would matter what kind of limitation one had on the 737 type. I do not have any SWA contacts at HR/Training to ask for clarification.
  7. The math HPA gave me was this: B737NG is $14,495 GI Bill max payment (2015) is $11,562.86/12 = $963.57/mo $14,495/$963.57 = 15 months of benefits They also said they don't have the classic anymore. K&S is cheaper and still has the 737 Classic for under $9k. So about 9 months of benefits. I was going to go with K&S until I found out I don't meet 61.64 as a turboprop guy going for a turbojet rating. Will receive a 737 type subject to PIC limitations - SWA [still lists] types without restrictions or circling approaches vmc only (https://swa.pilotcredentials.com/?a=qualifications) if you have the type.
  8. Take this with a grain of salt…. Have you ever parked on Guard ramp at CLT? No F-ing way they are going C-17s. Don't have the space for it. Based on the rumors - the 130 is likely to remain in the ANG for a long time and your best best to fly legacy. AFRC might see the day of some wings going away, some being associated to active J-model wings. Kind of depends on how long current AFRC leadership stays around, how much Congress pushes back, how quickly Big Blue gets new J-models off the factory line, how well current AFRC 130 wings justify their existence. St. Jo is probably safe due to AATTC and the WIC being there. No idea on Minneapolis - after all the Congressional and Army push back on Pope likely to see AFRC try another 130 wing to close. My money is on Maxwell (again) or maybe Niagara, but who knows. Again, this and $8 will get you a Denny's Grand Slam.
  9. What everyone else said. Type rating…not necessary in this hiring climate. Interview prep…yes.
  10. This…the operational reserves is not the intention of the strategic reserve. Rumor is on the AFRC side the CC is pushing to go F-35, C-17, and KC-46 with divesting the 130 community. Even if not true it implies a push that mirrors the ANG leadership - grab the latest iron and related operational missions - if you think you will be a part-timer in ARC as an ops dude/dudette - forget it. Civilian corporate job, ladder climbing…no way. They don't understand how you can still be in the military actively doing the mission, but be in the office M-F. Small business can work if you have full-time partners that are willing to pick up your slack. Airlines probably are the best option, but there are limits. Any other communities getting hit with the air advisor 1yr non-vols? The 130 community in ARC has been and word on the street bros that are getting tapped on the shoulder who have their 20 are punching. After reading this ANG article now I get why the ANG isn't pushing back on the requests from Big Blue to non-vol their people. I kind of expect AFRC to play nice with Big Blue - the AFRC leadership never tells Big Blue to pound sand.
  11. Points of clarification: a) An ETP is not the same as a medical waiver appeal. The medical waiver appeal is done on the medical side prior to an ETP. Correct? What I cannot find is any reg reference to the medical appeal process for a denied medical waiver. I found in AFI 48-125, 6.4.1.11: There's also a statement in 6.4.7.3 saying if a member is DQ'd then the flight surgeon will advise the member and provide a Form 422 for retraining actions. I would expect this would also reference the appeal, but it does not. This is in reference to existing members with a FCII not a new hire.
  12. The real question is. Do you want to have that level of tempo as a Guard/Reserve guy? Is 165 days (I assume you meant days and not hours) higher, about right, or low of what you want. I'm averaging about 110 days past two years with a full time civ job and I think it sucks. I'd like to cut that back to about 60 days per year. Hard to do when the Guard/Reserve brass insist on parity with AD so no way to cut down certs/quals to reduce the pain not to mention the non-flying BS we deal with. But I digress. To the OP, tempo shouldn't get worse unless NK invades SK kind of event OR if the DoD budget keeps getting whacked to where we get whored out more than we already do (because we're the cheaper back-door draft option). Don't expect a regular paycheck after your orders end. Either whore yourself out to the squadron or get a civilian job. Either option might suck for you depending on where you live (in relation to your base local) and family situation (single dude or married with kids). Bottom Line: Figure out why you want your wings. Never forget that reason cause one day you may say to yourself why am I trying to balance these things (mil, civ, fam, etc) and your answer shouldn't be because I want my 20. IMHO, that's not a reason to do this. Hope that isn't too deep for ya (sts). I figured if you are asking about the Ops Tempo, then you have some concerns from a civ job or family perspective.
  13. TFI = Total Force Integration
  14. Ya, that more of us are thinking of getting out because of TFI.
  15. My thoughts are if you have been sworn in; i.e., you have paperwork showing you are now an E-5 then you should be able to get paid. If you already swore in and filled out some enlistment paperwork I'd check with your MPF to make sure they put you in the system. I'd also get finance to clarify what they mean. You should also bring this up after you do some leg work to your contact at your squadron. Chances are you won't be the last person that has an issue - it's a good thing to have the people in your orderly room aware of it to help the next new guy who comes through and runs into the same problem. Just my two cents.
  16. So, he doesn't buy into the ? Then why doesn't he end it all. He may be a good dude, but until he proves it by ending the BS then he's just part of the problem. Seriously, REFLECTIVE PT gear does not require a reflective belt.
  17. The Guard is implementing this? The world is coming to an end.
  18. CH is right on the money on this one. Blues do not add to our professionalism - that's just complete BS. If anything they are uncomfortable and impractical for daily wear. Our WG CC sent out a letter today about Blues Monday, but I've not read it yet.
  19. 2, I recall in UPT having to wear blues and then run in the bathroom to change into my bag for a flight, then change back into blues after said flight and then back again after someone got bumped from the sched and I got placed back on it. So, now Mondays in the squadron can be like a UPT haze all over again when you're not scheduled to fly, but suddenly find yourself on the sched. This is just a waste of time and a royal ass pain of a policy and has nothing to do with the real problems at hand. Oh, and I just went to finance probably for the 6th visit to check on a voucher I filed in June that keeps getting lost in Ellsworth's black hole.
  20. Just to clarify from reading the Deid topics: 1) If you use the wifi you don't need you're laptop wiped by the comm nazis, but the wifi is not available in the dorms. 2) In order to use your laptop in your dorm you have to have your laptop wiped by comm, but then you can't use your laptop on the wifi. There is also a desktop computer located in each room with Internet so you don't have to have your laptop wiped anyway. Is this correct? Anybody using a Mac over there and ran into any issues? I'd assume not, but thought I'd ask.
  21. If you're a flyer - your uniform is the bag. Period, dot, period, dot. I don't care if you're flying a line that day or not or sitting in the basement of the puzzle palace. Go tell the mx guys that they can only where their BDU's on days they actually turn a wrench. That would be total BS. It's not like Blue's are the only "official" AF uniform and the only one that portrays a "professional" image. That is also BS.
  22. Reading the legislation text above about the post 9/11 GI Bill makes it sound as if you can receive benefits even if all your active duty time has been for training (if over 24 months). So, if you have 28 months of being on active duty orders from commissioning school through all your schools/seasoning you'd get the 80% of benefits based on the chart. Not according to this answer on the VA site which contradicts the legislation. So I'm guessing either the VA site is wrong or the legislation that got approved changed the "including service on active duty in entry level and skill training". Question Reserve Eligibility for the Post-9/11 GI Bill Answer Veterans who have served at least 90 days of active duty service after September 10, 2001 will qualify for the new Post-9/11 GI Bill. Unlike REAP benefits, active duty service will be counted cumulatively and not based on the single longest deployment. Also Reserve and National Guard members with 3 years of active duty service after September 10, 2001 can now qualify for full GI Bill benefits. Generally only federal activations count toward total active duty service, training and state call ups do not qualify. Those veterans who qualify for the REAP GI Bill will have the option to choose which benefit best suits their need.
  23. Have to agree with "Only Angels Have Wings" with Cary Grant also "A Gathering of Eagles" with Rock Hudson. Can't find that one on DVD, but saw it on TCM one night - it was about a SAC bomber base during an ORI. Made me think how some things haven't really changed that much in the AF.
  24. I agree with Scooter on this. The bag is our daily uniform. Why it wouldn't be allowed is beyond me. Not to mention it's great to travel in - it wears like a pair of pajamas and has a zillion pockets to stuff things like ipod's, altoids, beer, airline tickets, just about anything you can think of.
