  1. Then how did he get promoted to a 3(?) star General?
  2. I worked as a barista at Hastings, and I perfer them to Davinnci's and Starbucks. Plus. they are cheaper as well. I'm not a coffee drinker so take my opinion with a grain of salt as well.. I think I started hating Vance/Enid when I was working in retail. Now that I go to school full-time. The Enid-Locals don't really bother me too much.
  3. As an outsider reading Ranger's question, It sounds like he is asking this: If you go T-1's, you try your hardest to get FAIPed, and then you do leg work for the U-2, that you might possibly get a fighter, and he is wondering if there is any truth to this.

  5. a friend of mind also had her daughter while her husband was in UPT, I think during phase I, She took care of her daughter during the week, but on the weekends, he had kid-detail :-)
  6. I think you need a watch for when you fly, you have to do certain checks every 15 minutes (not too sure about that timing, just giving you an example).. I'm not too sure how you could go about doing those with out a watch though... At least one person needs to have a watch in the class room.. to give out the time for some reason.
  7. Dude, I've been in your shoes.. wouldn't want to go back.. no offence intended. You wont find out where you'll be going until week 12. The only thing I suggest is to look up colleges at all UPT bases, and go from there. At Vance: Northern OK College Northwestern Oklahoma State University OSU 1.5hrs away OU 1.5hrs away The last three have master's programs. As far as jobs that are easy with military, nursing and education are the easiest to transfer around, and there is a constant need for nurses and teachers. When you get into a more specific area, thats when you will run into problems. I have a friend who has her Chemical Engineering degree.. There's not a high demand of those here in Enid.. she's now almost done with her nursing degree. Working for Banks is also "good" (you couldn't pay me enough to work for one!) like Bank and America-- they are pretty much everywhere, so transferring would be easy (so to speak)
  8. 09-05 Track Select at Vance---BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2-helos 3-T-44's (one was guard) 2-T-38 The rest was T-1's (YEAH!!!!!)
  9. So, um, yeah, what does FUBAR mean?
  10. Odd question: Does anyone know if you can claim quarantine expenses for pets?
  11. Wow, your form partner must ROCK! =P

  13. I think I want cake now... and I think I have some devils food as well--with chocolate frosting!!
  14. I had to wait 14 days from the time I got here to the time I moved in a house. That boarding bill was $400. But, I have three large dogs. Teh boading place I used is closed, otherwise I would suggest them. They had inside play areas and outside play areas. And they didn't charge you more for putting your dogs outside. Enid Pet Hospital boards, but eh. You have to pay more to have the pooch walked. They are stuck in a small crate. I wasn't impressed. I also wasn't impressed with a vet there. And the staff there is rather rude. Try Wheatland Vet (which is right next to Wal-Mart and the Highway Patrol Office) How does your pooch do with other dogs? I'm in a "I want another puppy" kick... so I'm willing to puppy-sit for ya!
  15. Ok, that might be a problem.. No one on here is going to go up to every single person in their squad and say "Are you an OrthoDox Jew?". Think about it. There was a guy on here that said he is on a deployment with an Orthodox Jew, send him a PM, give him your email addy, and see if his friend will email you back. It's as simple as that. The guys on this forum are pretty awesome, and will help you out anyway thet can--most of the time.
  16. Here is some info regarding Ortho work for spouses: - After you are 23, you have no Ortho benes. - If you get Ortho work done before you are 23, United Concordia will stop paying when you turn 23. - They do "quarterly"-type payments, you are then responsible for covering the rest. - United Concordia sucks once you hit E-5 and higher.
  17. Yes, You have to have them on your teeth for roughly 6-8hrs every day. You take them out when you eat and drink. The only thing you can drink while you have invisaline in is good ol' water.
  18. I understand where you are coming from, and I agree with you, but it's different for a spouse. It's one thing if you or my husband go in and not get the help that you deserve, and ask to speak to the First.. but it's a whole new ball game when a spouse does it. A) we get labeled as "that spouse" who went into XX-Building demanding help.. --Trust me boys, this happens, in fact, I know a chick who will tell spouses NOT to go finane (for example) because "well, you just don't want to be that spouse who goes around doing your husband's business..." Now, I'm OK with being "that spouse" espeically when the hubster is away, and I know that he can't do anything from where he's at. B) think about it: Imagine this: Husband is deployed/TDY his pay gets jacked up. As in only $352.56 is deposited in the acocunt. You, like every other American out there, have bills that you need to pay. The hubster can't talk on the phone.. so what do you do? Go down to Finance, you try to keep your cool, but when you're being dicked around so much, you start to lose your cool. Now, what? especially if this is the first time that this has happened, you aren't going to know "hey, just ask to speak to the First". I sure as hell didn't. I'm pretty calm when it comes to dealing with people (as long as it's not Pinnacle). Years in retail has taught me that, and even before retail, I'm just a calm person. But, I do freak out when bills can't be paid.. Yes, there's $$ in savings.. but still.. Pay is the LAST thing anyone should have to worry about.
  19. My husband didn't "medically" need the ortho work that he got. Considering that the work put him on bed rest for roughly 3-4wks. I think all he had was an over bite.. I wasn't around back then, so I don't know for sure. If you can, how about calling a dental clinic? and asking them. They would know for sure-- give or take who you talk to!
  20. Maybe finance gets a bad name because they don't show any consideration to people. They don't offer any type of help, and they treat people like crap. I'm not asking for them to know everything, but what I want is some compassion when it comes to getting help. Even if it's a "I'm sorry, you need to go to XXX.." just treat me like I'm a human, and not the crap that is on your shoe, that is bothering you. Anyone on here who had their pay jacked up understands what I'm talking about. We are still recovering from the whole pay issue, and that was going on in the end of 2006 to May 2007. That's a LONG time to have your pay jacked up.
  21. I don't know why the AF wont pay for it for the AD member. United Concordia pays some of it for spouses/dependents..
  22. We were a ping pong ball being bounced back and forth between Finance and MPF. MPF was telling us to go to Finance, and Finance was bouncing us to another finance office. What gives? Trust me, Finance Guy, we tried every single avenue out there. It wasn't just rank/time in service screw ups, there were other issues as well. And, it doesn't help that when you go to the finance office, you can be as sweet as pie, and they still act and treat you like shit on the bottom of their shoes.
  23. Haha I’m going to add to the “I hate finance” as well! When my husband went to OTS, he was supposed to be paid E-5 with 8yrs. Well, finance couldn’t get that through their heads. They deal with OTS students ALL the time, this should d have been second nature to them! Well, they decided to over pay us.. majorly. Like $6k in one setting. I put aside $3k, because I had heard horror stories about finance. Dave thought that the $6k was base pay plus all the back pay that they owed us. I wasn’t taking any chances. Well, it’s a good thing that I put that $3k away. After my husband commissioned, they stopped paying us. I used that money (the $3k) to pay the bills and what have you. Well, his pay was still messed up. They were paying him as an E-5, when he should have been getting 01E w/8. There’s a big difference in pay. Maxwell Finance said that we needed to talk to Vance finance. Maxwell couldn’t do anything. Um, hello? He wasn’t even at Vance yet. Well, He calls Vance finance, and they say “you aren’t in our system; you need to talk to Maxwell.” That song and dance went on for about 2 months. Finally, when he got to Vance, and he wasn’t getting anywhere with Finance.. And we’re still getting under paid; he had to get Col. Baldingger (sp?) involved. Col. Baldingger was the 71st OSS’s commander at that time. Pay finally got settled. On a funny side: My husband found an old LES statement from when he was at BMT. He set it on my recliner and when I got home he said “Honey, finance messed up again...” I looked at his LES, and go straight to the “Pay” section, and it’s around $350 and some change. I don’t even look at the rank or the date. I’m in complete freak out mode. “Why!? Who you did you piss off at the finance office!!” he starts laughing his sorry ass off… I’m not the least bit amused. He tells me that the LES is from when he was in BMT. He slept on the couch that night. 
  24. Can you wait till after you commission? Reason being: When my husband was enlisted, the USAF paid close to $20k for his straight teeth plus 4 metal plates inserted in his jaw. He was given Invisalign as his retainer. I would think that they would offer the same dental work to an Officer.
  25. If you stay in TLF for I think, 10days, Finance will pay you back. You have to give them the invoice from TFL. She can stay in TFL/Billeting ($36 for TLF, and $27 for Billeting a night) and it would probably be cheaper then staying in a hotel off base. Also, if She an sit tight, and wait for her husband to inprocess, he can then take leave to go back to MA to help her move. The household goods can be shipped at anytime, as long as they have orders. If her household goods are shipped on May 9th, and get to little rock before she even gets there, they will be put into storage. Do they want to live on base? If they do NOT want to live on base, she can move to little rock during ASBC at anytime. If she wants to move on base, He has to get a waiver signed, since he is not 'really' stationed at that base until he inprocesses. I had to do the PCS by myself. My husband went straight from OTS to ASBC, before we knew he was going to ASBC we had an argeement with a tenat to rent our house... so I had to be out of the house by X-date. If she has anymore questions, please feel free to PM me.. :-)
