  1. OK! ultimately, that's what I was trying to get at whitout dissing the Navy. I've heard that they are kinda "lax" on trainings and such! Our track Select date isn't until July 22, so we still have some time. Hell, my husband still isn't sure of what he even wants.
  2. Do you retain the same graduation date if you track T-44's?
  3. I've really been thinking about joining the AF as a Nurse, once I have my BSN. I know the jist of COT, and some idea of the follow on healthcare training. My question to anyone who is there or BTDT, how was it worked out for you? I understand that this is one of those "It's what you two make of it.." type issues, but I would like opinions.. pros and cons.. what are somethings that if you could change, you would? or things that you wouldn't change. I have tried to talk to a Healthcare specialist recuiter for the AF, but he's not being very helpful. I asked him thses questions: 1) Is there anyway I could contact a family who is dual military? I would like a general idea of what life would be life. 2) Assignments: I'm pretty positive that nothing is set in stone with the Military, but how likely is it that I could have a joint-assignment (I think that is what it's called) with my husband? And he never answered me.. hell, he hasn't even responded to my last email regarding additional questions regarding a program or something (see, I wanted more info on it.. and he left me hangin'!) Thanks in advance!
  4. FYI to all new Vance newbies planning on living on base: Be ready to hand over a check for the first months rent. They will probate it accordingly to when you move in. And they won't tell you until after you sign the lease that you owe them anything. This has happend to two of my friends/neighbors.
  5. I agree with Brabus. I find it difficult to pay $$$ for center pieces, when I'm already forking over $$ for nasty club food. The only way I would "suggest" that we spend more money for graduation, is if we can go to a place that actually serves GOOD food.
  6. I think dues are the best idea ever. Other wise, you will be paying for everything else out of your pocket--all at once. Or, forcing your spouse's to fundraise on your behalf. According to the info I got from my Spouse's Orientation, the approximate unavoidable costs at UPT is $1083-$1248
  7. Yes. We watched it in the Luxor's IMAX. It put me to sleep. The guy that the movie was based off of, was in there as well. We realized it when we were leaving the theater and people were starting to crowd him. I think We own the movie.. My husband liked it.
  8. Cleaning the contacts once a month at OTS isn't going to be a big deal. Clean them on a Sunday, and you'll be Peachy.
  9. At SunRidge: as long as you don't have a rottie, pittbull, or any other breed that say deem "agressive", you will be OK. They allowed German Shepherds back when I called them over a year ago.
  10. If I remember correctly, They have to be seen on base first, and if you don't want to have your kid seen on base, then you are allowed to see a Dr. off base After you talk to the Med commandor (this is what was in my spouse's orientation booklet thingy). My neighbor has three girls, the youngest being 18months, and they see Dr. Barnyard at the Vance clinic. He is awesome, the Pediatrician that lives two houses up from me, also has three kids, and they all see Dr. Barnyard.
  11. go to www.airforceots.com if anyone would know, it would be that site..
  12. Thank you! My husband will pin on 02 next year, right after he graduates UPT. Guess I gotta start being "open minded" to FAIPing...
  13. Can you be considered for a FAIP slot if you have X-amount of years already in? My husband is "open-minded" to FAIPing, and I have been told that he won't FAIP because he'll hit 10yrs this July, and I have been told that he can be FAIPed.. Was curious if anyone on here knew the "story".
  14. Bring two cars. Yes, he can bike to work, but he's probably not going to want to if he has to wear his Blues. The weather here is iffy. It can be beautiful one day, and thundering/raining the next. Plus, during winters, we get ice storms and some "snow". bring two cars, two cars are life savers. Cable, phone, internet are not included. I have sprint, and I love it. I know some people who have AT&T and Verizon, and they love it as well. Also, if you have a fenced in back yard, you are responsible for it's up keep. Also, see if Pinnacle will send/fax you a copy of teh lease.. You need to go over that with a fine tooth comb. Also, you have to bring your own washer and dryer. The dryer can be either gas or Electric, the houses should have both hook-ups. I don't know about the brand new houses. I will hopefully be out of this hell hole by that time. If you have anymore questions, please feel free to PM me. My one year of being here at Vance is April 1. I don't remember the ages of your kids, but there's a school on base, Eisenhower Elem. that your two eldest can go to. If you home school... there's quite a few people that do that here as well. **Cross posted** OH! if you decide to spend any of your money making the outside of your house beautiful (plants, flowers, scrubs etc) put a sign in there saying "DO NOT TOUCH!!" The stupid phucking landscapers took out two of my Plants!! and I had left the "tag" (the thingy that tells you what plant is what..) in the garden... That tag is still there.. the plants are not!!! They are GONE.. I was pissed.. stupid phuckers. So, this spring, I'm putting a sign in my flower bed saying "Landscapers, Do Not Touch. Or Else."-- or something along those lines. THIS is the time when my flowers would be blooming. :-(
  15. It would make more sense for her to complete all of her training before they send her on a remote/deployment. If you got a passport, and bought your plan ticket, I don't see why you couldn't go over there. You would be an American visiting Korea:-) Ask. The worst that will happen is they (who ever is in charge of you) says no. I haven't heard of anyone doing their casual status over there. But that's not saying it doesn't happen.
  16. I'm not a ROTC expert, my husband went through OTS. I would guess that you could call TMO, have them pick your stuff, and have it put in storage while you are at ASBC, and if your then wife moves to Sheppard, she can have tmo deliver your stuff while you are at IFS. Also, if you stay in TLF for 10 days (while waiting for housing) finance will pay you back. And you should be able to qualify for the Dislocation Allowence as well. SO, money should not be a prob.
  17. First off: Get her a POA. She can't do anything housing wise Unless she has that... You can take her to ASBC with you. Spouse's can go! It'll suck ass for her... read other threads on ASBC... and that's your home (and honeymoon!) for 6wks. While she is at ASBC with you, she can "apply" to housing at Sheppard. The housing office at Maxwell, is... interesting. There's a very nice, helpful lady there, and then there's a bitch (I was very close to complaining about her, but what would have been the point...) They can/will give you the housing application, you fill it out, give them a copy of your orders,They fax the app/orders as well as mailing the application and orders to Sheppard. Wait a day or so, and then have her call teh base housing office at Sheppard, and tell them that she needs to move on base, that you are doing a TDY-enroute to the base. They SHOULD let her move on base then, if not, they will tell you to write a waiver and so forth. Good luck! Let me know if I can help you with anything else.
  18. The military allows this because they no longer have to deal with housing, as long as the Civies kiss the right asses, and make those asses happy, who the phuck cares about us pea-ons who actually LIVE and have to deal with these stupid ass civilians. I HATE privatizing, if you couldn't tell. I don't see where our BAH is going, besides to the cheesy "Neighborhoods at Vance" newsletters that we get monthly. AND, let's not forget that the "welcoming center" and Maintence building are taking up TWO homes, where TWO families could be living in!!! My husband is an 01E w/10 as well. I don't think it's fair for the Lt. Col's who live in a house maybe slightly bigger then mine. OH! and let's not forget about the list of band breeds that every privatized base has. I mean, I guess it's way too much to think that maybe people in the military, officer and enlisted, might be a little bit more responsible and carring. I guess military memebers are able enough to make the desicion to fight and possibly die for their country, yet they aren't able to keep certain dogs. Sorry, that hits close to home. I have a rottie, and the only reason why I still am able to live on base is because I am "grand-fathered" in, since I lived on base before it was privatized. But, if we move to Randolph, we would have to live off base.
  19. Why not get married at the JOP, and get a waiver for her to move in base housing while you are at IFS. I had to move to Vance while my husband was still in ASBC because we had renters taking over the house on April 1. We found out about a month before his OTS graduation that he was going to be goign straight to ASBC. By that time, we were in "contract" to be out by April 1. Calling the housing office at the base you will be at, and see what they say.
  20. There's a storage unit on Van Buran, the cross street is South GAte (very close to the base) Emrick's, I think, is the name. I'll ask my husband about body shops. He should know some good ones.
  21. What is your spouse's job currently? Meaning: is she a Nurse, Teacher, retail worker etc. That way, hopefully someone in that area (CABF/PIT) can give you an idea of jobs for her. I would think that if you move down to Randolph, jobs would be plentiful, since that base is located in San Antonio. What is your spouse's job currently? 22. I think I saw a Dr. in the Enid Opto Group-- They are near St. Mary's.. crap! I can't think of his name! the co-pay was $15 bones.. Another thing to USAFmama: TO live on Base, you have to sign a lease. They are yearly leases, and the only way you can get out of your lease with out getting into trouble is if you have PCS orders. Trouble includes: They take another months BAH.
  23. most of the services that TMO use, are usually very organized about what goes in what box-- It's not random at all. If you are going to do a DITY move, you have to get it 'approved' before you move. If not, they might or might not pay you for the DITY.
  24. OH!!! I will tell you this now: there is a city Called North Enid. It is in teh North side of Enid, it's a mom and pop type city.. the city have (no joke) two cops, one Mayor, and all are really good friends. So, what I'm saying is, watch out. If you piss one of the cops off, you will be screwed by pretty much teh whole town. I have friends that live in North Enid, and man, the stories that they tell... There is a long history between North Enid and Enid, and something to do with the train tracks and cutting off supplies. It's insance. Stay away from North Enid. stay far far far away.
  25. Welcome! Every Spouse group is different. Some meet every week, some don't. As far as your class goes, I couldn't tell you anything. I'm *guessing* that since he just started today, he's in the 71st OSS until he moves to the flight line. If you want, PM me your email addy, and I'll have the Spouse in Charge of the OSS roster add you, that way you can recieve emails and such, regarding spouse socials, play groups (if you have kids), and other things that are going around in the 71st. When he moves to Phase 2, he'll either move to the 33rd or 8th. From there, you should be contacted by his C/O's spouse who will be your "POC" (Point of Contact). She will always send you emails regarding social events, play groups, and other events going on the the squadron. Are you moving on base or off base? I can't speak for all classes, but our class is pretty close. We all hang out and have a dandy good ol' time. Once you get here, you will meet more spouses in your class. Also, your husband's class will have a roster and a spouse roster. So, if you feel froggy, you can always email everyone and go out to eat or what not. Spouse activity varies by Class. You might have a class where it's mostly single guys, or a class where it's mostly old guys that are married w/ or w/out kids. There is the OSC (Officer Spouse's Club) and SOSC (Student Officer Spouse's Club). Lemme know if you want anymore information! Again, WELCOME TO VANCE!
