So there I was...
Good kill, way to keep your cool.......I'm pretty sure I would've "accidentally" dropped a 100lb barbell on him

Athletics & Flying
My bad. I was under the impression that if an AFA player gets drafted in the NFL, there's a good chance of getting out of the AD commitment and going straight to pros due to the good publicity they would generate for the Air Force.

Athletics & Flying
Any one on here ever meet Chad Hennings? I'm a huge Cowboys fan and thought it was cool that he served his country flying the A-10 when he could've gone straight to the pros.

Stuck in the military?
Don't you incur additional ADSC for PCS and promotion as well? What else am I missing?

Pararescuemen
Talk to your cadre and tell them you want to put in for either CRO or STO (the officer jobs for PJ and Combat Controller). They'll send a package in for you and if you get accepted after going through the hoops (CC nomination, PFT etc) you move on to phase II which is around a week at Fairchild or Hurlburt (during junior/senior year). If you pass and they want you to come back enter the pipeline after commissioning.

Pararescuemen
Are coming enlisted or officer PJ? If you're in ROTC, don't forget you can still accept a pilot slot and go to phase II to see how it works out. It's nice to have in your back pocket if you don't cut it or decide it's not for you. As far as how PJ's are regarded in the USAF, I think they're pretty SH. Their motto says it all "That others may live". GL

CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) info
Finally! I've always thought it was messed up that a 24 yr old could teach students to fly a supersonic jet but wasn't automatically or easily qualified to instruct in a spam can. This will help GA greatly. I can't tell you how many guys I know who would love to get their CFI but don't wanna pay the $$ or put up with the FAA pain.

I'm in a dilemna - Pilot or WSO?
Very interesting. I guess it explains why everyone who wants to be a fighter pilot before UPT is happy with whatever aircraft they get, fighter or not.

I'm in a dilemna - Pilot or WSO?
I also think you may be over estimating the flexibility of the AF. Your plan is too logical to happen in the USAF. However, the worst they can say is NO. Make up your mind TODAY and move forward. The clock is ticking. GL

Pay and allowance questions (flight, hazard duty, family separation)
I heard you can't make more than a CMSgt tax free and that it's usually not a factor until you make Major.

F-15C v F-16D low speed turn radius/turn time
I heard something confirming that from a friend. He said when he was at IFF they would have competitions and the F-15 guys would win the BFM flights and the A-10 and F-15E guys would always win the bomb drop contests. He said the poor LGPOS pilots never won a thing. If F-15 pilot trains for his sole mission, air to air, and F-16 pilot trains for A/A and A/G it makes sense that Eagle guys would rule the sky in air to air engagements. I'm curious to know how it would end with two F-15C pilots in different jets.

Fort Smith conversion
What about AC-130's? It seems like their knowledge of CAS would be of great benefit to a hog unit.

Weekend travel
How much advance (in the hole) leave are you authorized to take? I seem to remember 14 days if you'll be attending technical training (UPT) but does anyone know for sure?

USAFA cadet falls overboard on cruise
Posted : Tuesday Apr 3, 2007 19:44:05 EDT “The combination of their quick response and my water survival training at the United States Air Force Academy combined to save my life during those five hours in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Guzman, a junior. He should've fallen on the sword and not said what school he was from....I guess Raiman is right

Good military/aviation books
"2" I've been reading it for less than 2 days and I'm almost finished. I never knew how much the RFOA-10G could do in combat! Incredible. Seems like the author did a good job interviewing real pilots and making it very realistic but can any of the hog drivers vouch for this book? Anyway, it's a great read!

?s on RNLTD (Report No Later Than Date)
Do you have the regulation for the 60 day rule? I've been looking for it for a while and can't find it. I'm supposed to report to Whiting 10 Oct but heard you can report 60 days early with cc approval so would like to report in August and get my name in the hat to start (A pool). Thanks for your help. AF presence at AFC Championship game in Indy
What a game! It's nice to see Manning being rewarded for being one of the classiest, smart, and humble players in the NFL.

Have you looked at VUL's? It's a life insurance plan that allows you to invest tax free. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_univ..._life_insurance A friend of mine told me about these. Does anyone else have any experience with them?

The cadet email thread
Toro, under what training circumstances is it okay to leave the WSO at home? Are there certain missions or training flights that they aren't a part of?
